Abstract:An intelligent cooling method is proposed to control temperature change of mass concrete with re-al-time, online and individuation. It is significant also for engineering and academic study on preventing the concrete dam from cracking during the construction period. The intelligent cooling method has the follow-ing main features:(a) the digital temperature sensors are installed in a new pouring mass concrete for monitoring real-time temperature change;(b) a controlling device is installed in the inlet and outlet of cooling pipe, and an average reduction of concrete temperature is obtained on the basis of calculating the cooling temperature difference;and (c) according to the Fourier law and conservation of energy, the re-al-time water flow is determined for cooling. Three basic cooling control principals should be followed dur-ing the cooling process:the highest temperature control, temperature change rate coordinated control, and abnormal temperature control. The intelligent cooling control is carried out by software platform system based on temperature control curve, which try to reduce tensile stress for winning a non-cracking concrete dam. The proposed cooling control method and system were successfully used to guide the temperature con-trolling of Xiluodu arch dam under construction process. The proposed novel method will be beneficial to the design and construction of the similar projects for controlling thermal stress of mass concrete.
