Abstract:In this study, the tribological characteristics of several synthetic lubricants—including poly alpha olefin (PAO), pentaerythritol ester (PET), perfluoropolyether (PFPE), ethyl siloxane fluid, chlorophenyl silicone oil (CPSO), and polydimethylsiloxane—were assessed from room temperature to 300℃. The results show that PAO 6 and PET exhibit exceptional lubrication properties at elevated temperatures. PAO 6, PET and ethyl siloxane fluid exhibits slight wear at high temperatures. Silicon oils, notably, tend to form Si aggregates at the Si3N4 and M50 (8Cr4Mo4V) wear interface. Among the silicone-based lubricants, ethyl siloxane fluids demonstrated the lowest wear rate, attributed to the generation of dense Si-O films at the wear interface that offer protective benefits. This work provides essential data support for the application of high-temperature lubricants.
