Construction of Urbiculture Theory in China

Abstract:Urbiculture,a branch of urban studies, is the outcome of current urban culture construction, and the develop-ment of big cities and city groups urgently demands the theoretical guidance. Firstly,the construction of urbiculture theory in Chi-na should draw lessons from Western experience of urban studies, especially the rich theoretical achievements of urban geogra-phy,urban sociology,and urban historiography. Secondly,China’ s experience should be summarized. Since the 1980s,the aca-demic circle had been exploring cities in China from the perspective of sociology,literature,and history,and thus laying founda-tions for urbiculture. Thirdly,urbiculture in China should have its own theoretical framework. Finally, the theory of urbiculture should be closely combined with practice and guide practice so as to reflect its times and reality.
