Abstract:Objective To explore the relevance of c-reactive protein(CRP) to the coronary lesions of patients with unstable angina(UA) and to evaluate the predicting value of CRP in short-term prognosis of UA.Methods CRP was measured on admission in 75 UA patients. According to the level of CRP, the patients were divided in to CRP≥10 mg/dl group (30 cases) and CRP10 mg/dl group (45 cases). Coronary angiographies were performed in all patients and the severity of coronary stenosis was evaluated by a quantitative scoring method. The follow-up period was three months. The terminal point was acute myocardial infarction(AMI) or cardiac death. Results The diseased vessels of CRP≥10 mg/dl group and CRP10 mg/dl group were 1.77 ±1.10 vs 1.07 ±1.10(P 0.05),the cumulative scoring of stenosis were 6.67 ±3.84 and 4.60 ±4.41(P 0.05)respectively. In the three-month follow-up period,7 AMI and 2 cardiac deaths occurred in CRP≥10 mg/dl group, whereas only 2 with AMI and no cardiac death occurred in CRP10 mg/dl group. It appeared that CRP at the level of 10 mg/dl and the cumulative scoring of coronarty stenosis were the independent risk factors in predictiong cardiac events(χ 2=2.95,P 0.05).Conclusion There is a possible relationship between acute elevation of CRP and the severity of coronary heart disease in UA patients and CRP can be a predicting factor in recent cardiac event and vessel reconstruction of UA patients, also it may play a guiding role in management and prognostic assessment of UA.
