Abstract:In order to resolve the problem that a PID controller performance may decrease when the operating conditions changes if the system condition changes.This paper presents a special performance evaluation for the PID controller,optimization and control approach,namely:PID loop evaluation and optimization algorithms.The algorithm uses the system closed-loop input and output data,assesses PID controller performance according to MVC(minimum variance control)benchmark,finds the optimized PID parameters for the time-varying systems at the base of MVC;the assessment process The results with the real system output variance to compare PID parameters on-line optimization as a basis for judgments,when the actual system performance below a.certain standard time of the controller optimization.The assessment process will take the new output variance to compare with the real system output variance,the result become the basis for judgments.When the actual system performance below a certain standard,the algorithms will change the PID parameters as a optimization process.At the whole algorithm,the monitoring of input and output data lasting in the whole process become a monitoring for the PID control system.Simulation results show the validity of this method.In the context,if the system have a abrupt or gradual changing,the system can automatically evaluate and optimize the implementation to achieve stability after 1300 seconds.The cycle of evaluation and optimization algorithm for realistic performance can assess and monitor the system at the same time.with certain conditions,with a certain standard this algorithm can optimize the PID parameters and ultimately make the system have the selfmonitoring and selfassessment capacity.

Abstract:There exists the disadvantages such as prematurity in particle swarm optimization because of the decrease of swarm diversity.In order to solve this problem,a new and improved version of particle swarm optimization algorithm is proposed combining the global best and local best model,termed GLBest-PSO algorithm.This algorithm incorporates global-local best inertia weight with global-local best acceleration coefficient.The velocity equation of the GLBest-PSO algorithm is simplified and the performance of the algorithm is improved.The ability of the GLBest-PSO algorithm is tested with a set of bench mark problems and the results of the simulation show the validity and better optimization performance.The algorithm is proposed to design the parameter optimization of PID controller.The simulation results show that the optimal PID controller based on the proposed method has a satisfying performance and is superior to the conventional PID controller based on the conventional tuning methods.

Abstract:This paper applies the simulated annealing algorithm for PID controllers to deal with those motion control systems having constant disturbance. The main goal is to eliminate the steady state error of the system and minimize the integral time absolute error (ITAE) performance index. Three PID controllers, the ordinary PID controller, the increment PID (IPID) controller and the integral separation PID (ISPID) controller are compared. The result shows different controllers fulfill different control requirements.

Abstract:A novel robust PID design method is presented in this paper.This method gets the reasonable PID controller parameters based on min-max principle,which can guarantee the control quality when the model varies in a certain range,decrease the sensitivity to the model uncertainty and increase the robustness of the closed-loop system.Since the min-max problem is not computationally tractable,the authors address this problem by first deriving an upper bound on the robust performance objective and then translating the min-max problem into the minimization problem with the upper bound on the worst-case objective.The paper proves the robust stability of the PID design method.The simulation result of CSTR problem is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the robust PID design method.

Abstract:To counteract the negative effect of time-delay introduced by wide area measurement system(WAMS),a new control design method of unified power flow controller(UPFC) considering time-delay was proposed.The linear timedelay differential equations of single-machine infinite-bus(SMIB) power system with UPFC were established,and the negative effect of time-delay on UPFC's performance was verified by a simple time-domain simulation.Based on linear matrix inequality(LMI) theory and Matlab's LMI toolbox,the UPFC was redesigned and the controller's parameters were optimized by combining with genetic algorithm.Time-domain simulation results show that the proposed UPFC considering time-delay effects can endure long delay of control signal and smooth the dynamic response of power system under different time-delay,and that the new UPFC enhances the UPFC's indifference to time-delay and the power system's static stability.

Abstract:In this article, we propose a PID tuning method which can simultaneously guarantee desired closed-loop time response and stability margin. For systems without time-delay, dominant pole placement method is used to guarantee the desired closed-loop time response and generalized-frequency method is adopted to give systems the desired stability margin. For systems with time-delay, however, the desired closed-loop time response and the stability margin are obtained through dominant pole placement method and gain-phase margin test method respectively. To demonstrate the effectiveness and confirm the validity of the proposed methodology, examples are provided for illustration.

Abstract:A PID controller design procedure is developed in this paper for the control of processes with integrator and time delay. First, an optimal performance index is defined based on robust control theory. Second, two methods are proposed in the light of the characteristics of the system loop transfer function. A type 2 filter is introduced to meet the requirement of trajectory asymptoticall tracking. And a PID controller is obtained analytically. The feature of the controller is that the nominal performance can be evaluated quantitatively and the robustness can be adjusted conveniently.

Abstract:PID controllers have been widely used in many industries. They can provide robust and reliable performance for most systems. However, it is very important to tune the PID parameters properly. There is a large variety of methods for tuning the PID parameters. But none of them can cope with the wide system uncertainties. The main motivation in this paper is to present a design scheme of controllers using the LS-SVM which achieve to self-tune the parameter. This method used LS-SVM to identify the predictive model of the system off-line, then linearized the model in local on-line for reducing computation, and combined the general minimum variance to self-tune the PID parameters. The controller has a better effect than the conventional PID controller. Simulation study shows the effectiveness and good performance.

Abstract:Network-induced delays in the networked control systems are inevitable and have a significant effect on system performance. In this paper, time-varying delays are regarded as the sum of the mean delays and uncertain delays. Furthermore, NCS with long time delays is modeled as a discrete-time model with structural uncertainty for its time-varying network-induced delays. Based on the model, a new control law via an iterative LMI approach is presented which can stabilize the closed-loop system. Theoretical analysis and simulation results compared to some existing schemes show that the control strategy presented in this paper is effective and feasible.

This paper aims to present a novel dual PID controller for NCS after making some reasonable simplification of the complex structure of NCS. Abstract:This paper proposes an effective control method aimed at the linear system with time-varying delay. We address the problem by means of switching among a finite family of candidate controllers. Our control method is based on semi-discretization method and hysteresis-based switching algorithms, where the former is introduced to design the candidate controller under one fixed time delay and the latter acts as the principal law of the switching. We prove the stability of our switching delay system and conclude that three factors, the size of the candidate controller set, the value of the switching coefficient, the changing rate of the delay, affect the system's stability, which can also be demonstrated by several groups of experiments. Simulation results show the correctness of our design.

Abstract:The efficiency and reliability of pumps are highly related to their operation conditions. The concept of the optimization pump operation conditions is to adjust the operation point of the pump to obtain higher reliability at the cost of lower system efficiency using a joint regulation of valve and frequency convertor. This paper realizes the control of the fluid conveying system based on the optimization results. The system is a nonlinear Multi-Input Multioutput (MIMO) system with time delays. In this paper, the time delays are separated from the system. The delay-free system is linearized using input-output linearization and controlled using a sliding mode method. A modified Smith predictor is used to compensate time delays of the system. The control strategy is validated to be effective on the test bench. The comparison of energy consumption and operation point deviation between conventional speed regulation and the new method is presented.

Abstract:The maximum sensitivity function as the conventional robustness index is often used to test the robustness and cannot be used to tune the controller parameters directly. To reduce analytical difficulties in dealing with the maximum sensitivity function and improve the control performance of the proportional-integral-derivative controller, the relative delay margin as a good alternative is proposed to offer a simple robust analysis for the proportional-integral-derivative controller and the first-order plus dead-time systems. The relationship between the parameters of the proportional-integral-derivative controller and the new pair, e.g., the phase margin and the corresponding gain crossover frequency, is derived. Based on this work, the stability regions of the proportional-integral-derivative controller parameters, the proportional gain and the integral gain with a given derivative gain, are obtained in a simple way. The tuning of the proportional-integral-derivative controller with constraints on the relative delay margin is simplified into an optimal disturbance rejection problem and the tuning procedure is summarized. For convenience, the recommended parameters are also offered. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed methodology has better tracking and disturbance rejection performance than other comparative design methodologies of the proportional-integral/proportional-integral-derivative controller. For example, the integrated absolute errors of the proposed proportional-integral-derivative controller for the tracking performance and disturbance rejection performance are less than 91.3% and 91.7% of the integrated absolute errors of other comparative controllers in Example 3, respectively. The proposed methodology shows great potential in industrial applications. Besides, the proposed method can be applied to the design of the proportional-integral-derivative controller with filtered derivative which is recommended for practical applications to weaken the adverse influence of the high-frequency measurement noise.

Abstract:In this paper, a simple PID controller design method that achieves high performance for a wide range of linear self-regulating processes is proposed. Satisfactory responses can be expected for processes with various dynamics, including those with low- and high-order, small and large dead time, and monotonic and oscillatory responses. The method is developed based on a second-order plus dead time modeling technique and a closed-loop pole allocation strategy through the use of root-locus. Simulation examples and real-time experiments are given to show the effectiveness and flexibility of the controller in handling processes of different characteristics.

Abstract:Aiming at the problem that it is difficult to confirm the parameters of the PID controller and the parameters can not be changed once identified, an intelligent PID control method is proposed. According to the size of the system error, this algorithm controls the system with different subsections of different parameters, by using the particle swarm optimization (PSO) to optimize the parameters of the PID controller to solve the problems, such as lag, time-variety and nonlinearity. A new evaluation function including the system adjusting time, rise time, over-shoot, and system error is defined. A group of parameters of the PID controller that minimize the evaluation function is calculated rapidly by searching in the given controller parameters area. Numerical simulations show that the controller can easily be applied to the first-order and second-order systems with time delay and its performance is also better than the classic PID optimized by PSO.

Abstract:This paper obtains an exponential stability criterion of Networked Control System(NCS) by constructing a delayed difference inequality.On the basis of this new established criterion,it designs a feedback controller in the form of Linear Matrix Inequality(LMI).It does not contain any free-weighting matrices,and can be solved by LMI toolbox in Matlab software.Numerical value simulation result shows that this design has less computational complexity and conservatism,and it is convenient to implement.

Abstract:We put forward a new control method combined with semi-discretization and the hysteresis-based switching algorithms for linear system with time-varying delay. Semi-discretization method proposes to discretize the time-delay and consider it to be a constant in a switching period, and treat the rest of the variables as continuous, so the system equation can be described by an ordinary differential equation. Using semi-discretization method, we can design an optimal controller for the system at a specific time. Obviously, optimal controllers vary at different time-delays. Since the time-delay varies with time going, we need to switch among different controllers in order to keep the system stable. As to how to switch, we introduce the hysteresis-based switching algorithm. Moreover, a series of simulation results have proved that this new method is able to give a fine performance in controlling such systems.

Abstract:A novel method is proposed to design PID controllers for stable first order and high order systems with time delay. Using a first-order Pade approximation for the transport delay, this method is based on developing a certain relationship between the coefficients of corresponding powers of s in the numerator and those in the denominator of the closed loop transfer function for FOPTD processes. Such relationship between these coefficients is searched using particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. Then, the approach is applied to high order systems by approximating them to FOPDT models. The proposed method originates from processes with small time delay; however, it is still effective even if the time delay is quite large. Simulation results show that the proposed method gives significantly better dynamic performances than IMC-PID method and the formula proposed by Smith, C.A. et al.
