Comparitive Exprimental Study of Staplers Versus Sutures for Closing Bronchus and Pulmonary Vessels

Abstract:Objective: To compare staples with sutures for closing bronchi and pulmonary vessels. Methods: Twenty four dogs were randomly divided into two groups and performed a left pneumoctomy. Left main bronchus and pulmonary artery and vein were closed with staplers in 12 dogs, sutures in another 12 dogs. All dogs were killed at 3, 7, 15 and 30 postoperative day, respectively. General condition of the dogs, specimens of bronchial and vessel stump were observed with microscopy. Results: Infiltration of inflammatory cells were heavier in suture group than stapler group (P0 05). Microthrombus was found on vessel stumps of 3 dogs in suture group, but no that was observed in stapler group. Conclusion: Stapler can increase the safety of pneumoctomy and make it standardization. It is possible to decrease postoperative complications.
