Abstract:Digital campus construction is the key construction project of computer basic colleges, and online examination system is an indispensable part of it. The overall structure of the examination system adopts a browser-based three-tier network application system, which divides the functions of the system into three blocks: representation, function and data. A perfect Web-oriented examination system for computer basic courses with multiple questions is designed and implemented. The modules and database of the examination system are designed in detail, and the development of the computer basic examination system is realized. The network examination system designed in this paper is based on virtual simulation platform, which is a test of teachers’ teaching level and students’ learning situation. The purpose is to make teachers and students get the most timely and effective feedback, so as to give teachers and students the greatest help in future teaching activities.

Abstract:Developing a computer based system for examinations are the substitute for the current examination system based on paper. In recent days, the e-learning has become more popular because of its adaptability, integrity and user friendliness. In terms of the paper based examinations, major challenge is the proctoring techniques used. In this paper, a novel method to avoid the presence of a proctor throughout the examination is proposed by an intelligent based examination system. This method is proposed to improve the e-learning using intelligent question bank and examination system. The system is designed with different complexity levels among the questions and also it acts as a tool to assessing the understanding of student from the teaching materials. This system can be timesaving and more efficient with an adequate level of security. The proposed methodology can be classified in to two main phases such as the design of question bank along with its database, design of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) based system for examination and its evaluation in order to improve the e-learning. Future works in this system can be the addition of theory-based questions and the integration of biometric based systems for enhancing the level of security.

Abstract:Administering examinations both in public and private academic institutions can be tedious and unmanageable. The multiplicity of problems affecting the conduct of departmental and periodical examination can be greatly reduced by automating the examination process. The purpose of this action research is to provide an alternative technical solution in administering test through the use of Examination System. This software application can facilitate a plenitude of examinees for different subjects that implements a random questioning technique and can generate item analysis and test results. The Departmental and Periodical Examination System was developed using Visual Basic language. The software modules were tested using the functional testing method. Using the criteria and metrics of ISO 9126 software quality model, the system was evaluated by a group of students, teachers, school administrators and information technology professionals and has received an overall weighted mean of 4.56585 with an excellent descriptive rating. Therefore, the performance of the application software provides solution that can surmount the gargantuan problems of test administration and post-examination issues and performs all the operations specified in the objectives.

Abstract:This article discussed the Web-based Examination System of Networking Institute's Demonstration Project in detail, including demand analysis, the implement technology, analysis the subject matter and solution. Users can customize one's own examination question application in the outstanding exam management platform; complete the whole process including building the question library, setting question, application in examination and evaluating the scores. In the course of implement of the Examination System, the author has done certain research to J2EE system architecture. To the question of standardization in Web-based Examination System, after doing certain research to the CELTS standard, the author has adopted standards relevant to CELTS in design, and set up standardization and portability better question library structure and examination question structure.

Abstract:This paper presents the development of a web-based examination system that focuses on automated resolution of faults such as power, network, or component failure that may occur when an e-learning system is used to conduct an examination. This system can withstand various challenges that hinder the adoption of e-learning technologies in developing countries. This is important because it will reduce the time and cost involved in conducting large scale examinations by tertiary institutions without the need to upgrade existing infrastructures. These institutions will not necessarily require uninterrupted power or network connection to conduct web-based examinations as the system can easily resume if such an incident occurs. The architecture of the proposed web-based online examination system provides for integrated management of functions such as question pool creation and update, examination monitoring, failure toleration and recovery, automated grading, and randomization. The system also eliminates the need for manual scheduling of examinations which requires much planning and is error-prone. Different examinations can be scheduled to run simultaneously. The design technology adopted for the implementation is a client/server technology. The incremental software development model in conjunction with prototyping technique was adopted in the development of the web-based examination system due to the iterative nature of the developed software. The system was developed using PHP, JavaScript, Ajax and MySQL. The system has been applied to conduct an examination involving more than 20,000 students per semester at University of Calabar. It has been proved to save efforts of teachers and students.

Abstract:With the development of the network, online education has entered thousands of households, and the access to online education is also very simple. Due to the continuous development of online education, a variety of online examination systems with various characteristics have been derived. Considering the simplicity and convenience of the system and the stability of performance, we have developed an online examination system using SSM framework under B/S architecture, which can detect students 'learning status through online examination and automatic marking. And automatically analyze the error rate of each problem and the weakness of each student, so that the teacher can explain such exercises. It also contains the basic information of the student, such as the mobile phone number of the student's parents. If the student is found not to complete the examination, the teacher will also call the student's parents to remind them, and can also communicate with the student's parents appropriately. For the management of the test questions can be taken excel document import. Thus, it can greatly improve the generation of test papers compared with the traditional paper examination. In terms of the types of questions in the online examination system, we only set single choice, multiple choice and judgment questions in the system, set the passing score, set the time of the examination, and also count the number of people who have passed the examination, and provide the correct answer after the examination for students to think. There is also a progress display on the right side of the answer sheet. After each question was answered, the color of the question number on the answer sheet changed. There's also a timing system on the right.

Abstract:The study set out to develop an online examination system. System design made use of entity relation diagrams (ERDs), case diagrams, site diagrams and object oriented (class) design to model system processes and entities. MYSQL was used to implement the server based database, md5 for encryption. PHP (Hypertext pre-processor) web scripting language was used to enforce interaction with the database. The online examination is an Internet based questionnaire, with questions compiled from different libraries. Its mission is to offer a quick, easy and safe way for students to take the exam. The resulting system was tested and validated. It was able to meet the required specifications and address some limitations of the previous system such as data confidentiality and security.

Computer Applications in Engineering Education

Abstract:A web‐based examination management system that is implemented in‐house is discussed in this paper. It is designed based on the Java enterprise edition three‐tier architecture. It also allows defining and setting up exams according to a flexible tree‐based exams structure. Moreover, it integrates a rich text editor for composing exams suitable for different engineering and language disciplines. In addition, it automates the scheduling, grading, and reporting processes to relieve instructors from such cumbersome tasks. Furthermore, its capabilities and integration with different databases enable it to offer several security schemes that support strong multifactor authentication and authorization, detect impersonation, and prevent cheating. Besides, it provides an easy to use and informative wizard that enables students to take exams. Not to mention, the deployment results illustrate that the system has been successfully used to organize online exams in several semesters over the past 3 academic years. Finally, the conducted user surveys responses assert that the system is also user‐friendly, cutting edge, capable, reliable, fast, and highly available.
