Abstract:Average contents of lead,cadmium,copper and iron in sediment are 44 mg/kg,2.63 mg/kg,62 mg/kg and 5.9×104mg/kg respectively.Vertical distribution of lead shows that its content has decreased in recent years.Cadmium is 10 times higher than soil background value.The vertical distribution of iron is related to pH and Eh of interstitial water in 0~28 cm range: iron in-creases with high Eh and low pH and decreases conversely.

Abstract:The river sediment acts not only as the major carrier but also the secondary sources of heavy metal contamination in river water.Elemental concentrations and chemical phases are essential to the study of heavy metal contamination in rivers and the evaluation of their ecological risks.In this study,1 mol/L hydrochloric acid (HC1) is used to leach heavy metals out from the samples (including both floodplain sediment and suspended particulate matter) collected from the Jiaojiang River,aiming to investigate the distribution of heavy metals (Zn,Pb,Cr,Cu and Cd) in acid-soluble and acid-insoluble phases,and thus to explore the major sources of heavy metals and their ecological risks.The concentrations of Zn,Pb,Cu and Cd in the Jiaojiang sediments are significantly higher than the local background values and their leaching rates,the ratios of elemental concentrations in the leachate to those in bulk samples,are higher than 60％.When the environment conditions change,heavy metals in the leachate can be easily released to the overlying water column and cause high ecological risks.The results of correlation and principal component analyses reveal that heavy metals in the leachate are incorporated into the sediments from aqueous solution,by processes such as adsorption onto Fe-Mn oxides and organic complexation,predominantly controlled by emissions from industrial and agricultural activities.According to the data of enrichment factor (EF) and potential ecological risk index,Cd is the most enriched element in the Jiaojiang sediments,especially in the upstream region,the Yongan River,where Cd is significantly enriched with high ecological risk,while Zn,Pb,Cr,Cu all display mild to moderate increase.The accumulation of heavy metals in the rivers in southeastern China and their ecological risks deserve further investigation.

Abstract:As one of the largest and most modern cities in China, Shanghai has experienced rapid urban expansion over the last three decades, which may cause environmental pollution. This study collected the surface sediments from 35 lakes in public parks in different areas of Shanghai and explored the relationship between heavy metals (HM; Co, Cr, Ni, Cd, Cu, Pb, and Zn) distribution and city urbanization factors. The concentrations of Co, Cr, and Ni in sediment were similar to those in background soil of shanghai, whereas the levels of Cd, Cu, Pb, and Zn were elevated. Overall, sediments from the central urban core area (CUC; inside the inner-ring highway) contained significantly higher levels of Cd, Cu, Pb, and Zn than those from the developed urban area (DDU; between the inner-and middle-ring highway), the developing urban area (DIU; between the middle-and outer-ring highway), and the suburban area (SU; outside the outer-ring highway), suggesting potentially large contributions from point sources related to human activities in the highly urbanized regions. For Co, Cr, and Ni, no significant differences of concentration and enrichment were found among different areas. The levels of Cd, Cu, Pb, and Zn showed strong associations with density of road network (R-2 > 0.84) in six urban administration districts of Shanghai, quantitatively confirming that these four metals mainly originated from traffic emission. However, the percent of residential and industrial lands had no correlation with HM (Cd, Cu, Pb, and Zn) concentrations in sediment from Shanghai. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
Spatial distribution and source identification for heavy metals in surface sediments of East Dongting Lake, China

Abstract:Dongting Lake is one of the most important inland freshwater lakes in China. To investigate the spatial distribution and seasonal variation characteristics of heavy metals (Cr, Co, Cu, Zn, Cd, and Pb) in the lake, 53 surface sediment samples were collected in the East Dongting Lake (ED Lake) in the wet and dry seasons. Results show Cr, Co, Cu, Zn, Cd, and Pb contents were 1.7 (1.9), 1.8 (2.0), 2.9 (3.0), 1.9 (1.9), 11.7 (13.1), and 2.0 (2.2)-fold of their geochemical soil background values of Hunan province (China) in the wet (dry) season. Spatial and seasonal heterogeneity could be found in the distribution of Cr, Co, Cu, Zn, and Pb in the surface sediments. The enrichment factor (EF) suggested that Cd has reached severe enrichment in the sediment. The result of the geo-accumulation index ( I geo ) indicated that Cr, Co, Cu, Zn, and Pb were at levels corresponding to low contamination, and moderately to highly polluted with Cd. Multivariate statistical analysis including pearson correlation analysis and principal component analysis was used for the identification of potential sources of the heavy metals in the sediments. The results showed that Cu, Zn, and Pb from the sediments of the East Dongting Lake in the wet and dry seasons were possibly anthropogenic sources, such as emissions from mining and smelting while Al, Fe, and Cr are attributed for natural sources. Cd enrichment in the sediments is influenced by both natural factors, and human activities in local areas.

Metals in Sediment/pore Water in Chaohu Lake: Distribution, Trends and Flux

Abstract:Nine metals, Cd, Cu, Ni, Pb, As, Cr, Zn, Fe, and Mn in sediment and pore water from 57 sampling sites in Chaohu Lake (Anhui Province, China) were analyzed for spatial distribution, temporal trends and diffuse flux in 2010. Metals in the surface sediment were generally the highest in the western lake center and Nanfei-Dianbu River estuary, with another higher area of As, Fe, and Mn occurring in the Qiyang River estuary. Metal contamination assessment using the New York sediment screening criteria showed that the sediment was severely contaminated in 44% of the area with Mn, 20% with Zn, 16% with Fe, 14% with As, and 6% with Cr and Ni. An increasing trend of toxic metals (Cd, Cu, Ni, Pb, As, Cr, Zn) and Mn with depth was shown in the western lake. Compared with metal content data from the sediment survey conducted in 1980s, the metal content of surface sediment in 2010 was 2.0 times that in the 1980s for Cr, Cu, Zn, and As in the western lake, and less than 1.5 times higher for most of the metals in the eastern lake. Among the metals, only Mn and As had a widespread positive diffuse flux from the pore water to overlying water across the whole lake. The estimated flux in the whole lake was on average 3.36 mg/(m2·day) for Mn and 0.08 mg/(m2·day) for As, which indicated a daily increase of 0.93 μg/L for Mn and 0.02 μg/L for As in surface water. The increasing concentration of metals in the sediment and the flux of metals from pore water to overlying water by diffusion and other physical processes should not be ignored for drinking-water sources.

Abstract:In this study, sediment samples from the 4 regions of Lake Taihu Basin were collected to analyze the distribution characteristics, potential risks and possible sources of heavy metal pollution (Cr, Cu, Zn, As, Cd, Pd and Hg). The results showed that the concentrations and risks from heavy metals were lower in 2018 than in 2012, while the average concentrations of the 7 heavy metals were lower than the upper chemical exceedance level (UCEL). Spatially, the contents were higher in the eastern plains and Yangtze Riverside regions. The results of the risk assessment indicated that all heavy metals other than Cd were at low-pollution levels. In contrast, Cd showed high risk (E i r 255.425 in 2012, E i r 149.293 in 2018), which led to the high comprehensive potential ecological risk level in the western hilly region in 2012. In 2018, the risk for the entire Lake Taihu Basin decreased to a moderate level. In addition, the results of principal component analysis showed that Zn mainly originated from agriculture and zinc ore, Cd originated from metallurgical industries and pesticides, portions of Cu and Cr may have come from natural sources, and the other portions and other heavy metals mostly came from chemical industries such as electroplating. This study thoroughly analyzed the heavy metal pollution status of the Lake Taihu Basin surface sediments and provided a scientific basis for preventing and controlling water pollution in the region.

Abstract:We investigated the spatial distribution (horizontal and vertical concentrations) of copper (Cu), lead (Pb), zinc (Zn), and cadmium (Cd) in five wetland types (mudflat, aquaculture wetland, water area, farmland wetland and mangrove) from three areas (Ningde, Fuding, and Xiapu), China. Cu concentrations in five wetland types descended in the order: farm wetland, mudflat, aquaculture, water area and mangrove. Pb concentrations decreased in the order: aquaculture, mangrove, farm wetland, mudflat, and water area. Zn content decreased in the order: farm wetland, water area, aquaculture, mudflat and mangrove, and Cd content decreased as follows: mangrove, aquaculture, water area, mudflat, and farm wetland. Comparison of the concentrations of the same heavy metals in different areas showed that the highest Cu (63.75 mg kg−1) and Zn (152.32 mg kg−1) concentrations occurred in Ningde coastal wetlands; Pb (110.58 mg kg−1) and Cd (2.81 mg kg−1) contents were highest in Fuding wetlands, and the average contents of all heavy metals were very low in Xiapu wetlands. Examination of the vertical distribution showed that the Cu content was high in all mudflat layers; Pb and Cd concentrations were highest in aquaculture and mangrove wetlands, respectively, and Zn content was highest in farm wetlands. The spatial distribution of Cu and Zn contents for different areas decreased as follows: Ningde > Fuding > Xiapu, for Pb and Cd were most concentrated in Fuding coastal wetlands. Concentrations of Zn and Cu were highly correlated, while Zn and Cu were not significantly correlated with Pb.

Abstract:A special sampler was made to drill out long and integrated sediment samples from Xi-xi national wetland of Zhejiang Province,and the contents of Cu,Pb and Zn in the sediments at different depths were tested to evaluate pollution degree of the heavy metals,as well as to determine their distribution along depth in the wetland using the method of geoaccumulation index.The tests and evaluation results showed that the sediments were moderately polluted within 0.6 m below the river bed,and not polluted at the depth deeper than 0.6 m.The concentration of heavy metals in the shallow sediments was found to be higher than that in pore water,which was in turn much more than that in the above water.Heavy metals in pore water of sediments could be released into the above water due to the concentration gradient,indicating that the water quality in the wetland could not be completely recovered only by replacing the polluted water with clean water,but needed to dredge the contaminated sediments in the wetland.The top 0.6 m sediment should be dredged from an economic point of view.

Abstract:Environment quality of suburban and urban lakes receives special attention due to their great impacted by human perturbations and important roles in ecosystem services. Herein, the spatio-temporal variations of 10 metal and metalloid elements in 13 sediment cores from a large suburban lake (Dianchi) were studied to explore the changes in sedimentary environment and pollution and their associations with human activities since the last century. Concentrations of each element were largely varied at spatial scales, but showed similar vertical trends among the profiles, suggesting comparable changes in sedimentary processes in each lake region. Cluster analysis showed two groups of elements: group I includes Al, Ti, Cu, Cr and Ni, and group II includes As, Cd, Hg, Pb and Zn. Temporally, concentrations of all elements were generally constant until the 1950s. Thereafter, group I elements along with the clay percentage started to decrease, indicating accelerated input of coarser soils due to strengthening human perturbation and changing land use. However, group II elements showed increasing values of concentrations, particularly the enrichment factors (EF = 1.0-10.8), which peaked between mid-1990s and 2000, indicating continued pollutants input with watershed economic development. With the implementation of environment management measures, pollution was initially restrained or reduced in recent decades as indicated by the stable EFs and sedimentary fluxes of Cd, Hg, Pb and Zn and decreasing values of As. Spatially, the stocks of anthropogenic As, Cd, Hg, Pb and Zn were higher in the northern while lower in the southern lake area. This spatial difference was mainly due to the large input of industrial and domestic wastewaters in the northern compared to the area in the southern that receives runoff from agricultural and forested land. Overall, the spatio-temporal patterns in accumulation of metal and metalloid elements in the lake reliably reflected the impacts of watershed human activities. (C) 2019 Elsevier B.V. Abstract:Lakes located in the mid-low reaches of the Yangtze River watershed have been subjected to various degrees of human perturbation that would have resulted in toxic metal concentrations and would pose potential risk to the natural habitats. Therefore, in the present study, two sediment cores from Chaohu Lake were collected to determine any such concentration, expressed as the enrichment characteristics of major and trace metals (Al, Fe, Mn, Cu, Pb, Zn, Cr, Cd, As, Hg, and Ni) in response to natural and anthropogenic changes. An approximate 180-year (1840–2021) deposition record of trace metals in sediment cores was obtained on the basis of 137 Cs and 210 Pb dating. Enrichment factors (EFs) and the geo-accumulation index ( I geo ) were adopted to evaluate the enrichment state and pollution status of trace metals. The results showed that Cu and Zn were persistently more enriched in sediment, whereas Mn, Pb, Cd, and Hg has shown remarkable increasing trends in the west lake since the 1970s. Evaluation of the I geo confirmed that sediment was moderately polluted with Cu and Zn within the whole lake and with Cd in the west lake area, whereas it was uncontaminated with Cr and slightly contaminated with other metals. Furthermore, source identification based on multivariate statistical analysis including correlation analysis, principal component analysis, and cluster analysis suggested similar pollution sources for the studied metals. Combined with the natural and anthropogenic changes within the watershed, enhanced soil erosion due to population expansion and agricultural intensification was a major contributor to sedimentary metals before the 1970s while industrial wastewater, urban runoff, and domestic sewage were predominant inputs of trace metals after the 1970s.

Abstract:The content of heavy metals in four sediment columnar samples,i.e.Cu,Pb,As,Hg and Cd,collected from Lianyungang near-shore area was measured in this paper.The correlation of heavy-metal content change and human activity was analyzed.It was found that the main pollutant in each columnar sample comes from Cu,and the sequence of heavy-metal pollution is Cu,As,Cd,Hg and Pb.According to the annual measuring data of 210Pb,the content of heavy metal in columnar sample was interfered significantly by land pollution discharge and coastal engineering construction,and the heavy-metal content of sediment was effected greatly by Linghong River,pollution discharge of alkali factories and West Levee Engineering Construction.
Spatial distribution and accumulation of heavy metals in tidal flat sediments of Shanghai coastal zone

Abstract:Surface and core sediments from the high, middle and low tidal flats of Shanghai coastal zone were analyzed for heavy metal (e.g. Cu, Pb, Zn, Cr, Cd, Fe, Mn) concentrations. Besides Cd, the concentrations of Cu, Zn, Cr and Pb are 2–5 times higher than their background values and show serious pollution trend due to the direct discharge of industrial and municipal sewage along the Shanghai tidal flat, as well as the wet and dry depositions of industrial dusts. It seems that heavy metals prefer to accumulate and be enriched in the sediments near large sewage outlets, high flats, and the subsurface layer at the depth of 10–30 cm. Several main factors, which include the direct sewage discharge along the tidal flat, tidal hydrodynamic action, large engineering activity, early diagenesis and windstorm tide, are considered to be responsible for influencing spatial distribution patterns of heavy metals in the Shanghai tidal flat.

Abstract:Lake Taihu is one of the most contaminated lakes in China. Surface sediment data show that the northern area of the Lake has the worst heavy metals pollution, and high heavy metal concentrations were attributed to discharge of untreated and partially treated industrial waste water from cities to the north of the lake. To study geochemical features and pollution history of heavy metals, total content and chemical fractionations of Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb, and Zn were analyzed for core sediments from western Lake Taihu using the speciation extraction procedure, proposed by the Commission of the European Communities Bureau of Reference (BCR), together with grain size and organic carbon measurements. Results show that sediments are composed of organic-poor clayey-fine silts for Cores MS and DLS, and have similar geochemical features shown by heavy metals. Cu, Fe, Ni, and Zn mainly are associated with the residue fraction, Mn is concentrated in the exchangeable-carbonate and residue fractions, and Pb is concentrated in the Fe–Mn oxide fraction and organic-sulfide fraction. The fractions of Ni, Pb, and Zn bound to Fe–Mn oxide show significant correlations with Mn from the Fe–Mn oxide fraction, and the organic-sulfide fractions of Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb, and Zn are correlated with TOC. The increase of Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn content and percentage of extractable fractions in the upper layers of the sediments are correlated with anthropogenic input of heavy metals due to rapid industrial development. This coincides with rapid economic development in the Taihu basin since late 1970s. Heavy metals in the surface sediments have certain potential biological toxicity as shown by the higher SEM/AVS ratio.
Assessment of Heavy Metal Enrichment, Bioavailability, and Controlling Factors in Sediments of Taihu Lake, China

Abstract:Heavy metal distribution, bioavailability, and ecological risk in the surface sediment of Taihu Lake were evaluated. Samples were collected from eight representative sites in September 2011 and February 2012. In the surface sediment, average metal contents were in the order of Cr > Zn > Ni > Pb > Cu. Spatially, Zhushan Bay maintained higher Cu, Ni, and Zn contents and Xiaomeikou maintained higher Cr and Pb contents than other sites. Spatial and temporal variation were observed in the bioavailable metals determined by acid-soluble fraction of BCR extraction. The labile metals in Zhushan Bay and Xiaomeikou were quantified by diffusive gradients in thin films (DGT) and DGT-labile concentrations of Zn, Ni, Cu, Pb, and Cd were in descending order, indicating the inconsistence of labile concentrations of different heavy metals with the total metal contents and that the toxic effect of Cd in sediment should be given attention. The ecological risk assessed by Hakanson potential ecological risk index showed that Zhushan Bay suffered the most serious pollution and should be given special attention. Bioavailability of metals should be taken into account during risk assessment for more accurate estimation.
Spatio-temporal Accumulation Patterns of Trace Metals in Sediments of a Large Plateau Lake (erhai) in Southwest China and Their Relationship with Human Activities over the Past Century

Abstract:Lake sediments are important archives of environmental changes and human activities, but the influences of human processes and lake spatial heterogeneity on the sedimentation of trace metals are still poorly understood. Based on 16 sediment cores from Lake Erhai (249 km(2)), trace metals (including As and Hg) contamination over the past century and the spatial heterogeneity and their response to the in-lake and in-watershed factors were explored. The elements were divided into two groups by cluster analysis: group I included As, Cd, Hg and Pb, and group II included Al, Fe, Ti, Cr, Cu, Ni and Zn. The element concentrations were generally stable in the low section of the cores, and started to increase since the 1980s for elements in group I, while element concentrations in group II generally decreased since the 1990s. Enrichment factor analyses identified group I elements as typical pollutants, and suggested that contamination started from the 1980s and reached maximum in the 2000s. Regional atmospheric deposition from ore mining and smelting was the main source, and anthropogenic As and Cd were also affected by watershed industrial discharges. Multi-core analyses indicated that spatial distributions and accumulation of As, Cd, Hg and Pb in the cores were affected by both human activities and sediment supply. Different from metal contamination pattern in surface sediments, high anthropogenic metal fluxes appeared in the central lake areas due to more sediment accumulation. Our study highlighted that reliable estimation of whole-lake pollutant inventories strongly relied on comprehensive analyses of multiple sediment cores and legacy input from the catchment.

Abstract:Heavy metal pollution in lakes is an issue that endangers ecosystems worldwide; however, the vertical properties of heavy metals in the water columns and sediment cores of lakes have been rarely evaluated simultaneously. This study revealed the pollution, risks, and sources of heavy metals from surface water to deep sediments in four typical lakes located in central China. The results showed that the concentrations of heavy metals, except Hg, had insignificant stratification in the water column. Heavy metals had three vertical profiles in sediment cores, i.e., the concentrations of As, Hg, Cd, Pb, and Mn in the surface sediment (0–9 cm) were higher than that in the bottom sediment (9–45 cm) (p < 0.05), the concentrations of Cr, Co, Fe, and Ni in the bottom sediment were higher than the surface sediment (p < 0.05), and the concentrations of Cu and Zn had no significant stratification. The Nemerow pollution index showed that heavy metal pollution dominated by Hg reached slight–moderate levels, and had higher levels in surface water than that in bottom water (p < 0.05). The Nemerow integrated risk index showed that the heavy metals had moderate–extreme potential ecological risks (Cd contributed 43.4%) in the sediments, and the ecological risk in surface sediment was significantly higher than that in bottom sediment (p < 0.01). Principal component analysis revealed that agriculture, transportation, and chemical industry were the major sources of heavy metals in water and surface sediments f, while agriculture and steel-making were the primary sources in bottom sediments. This study provides valuable data and insight for the control of heavy metal pollution in lakes with high human activity loads.

Abstract:This study analyzes the distribution and transportation of heavy metals in surface sediments by determining the concentrations of 6 heavy metals (Cr, Zn, Ni, Pb, Cu, and Cd) based on 164 surface sediments collected from the East China Sea (ECS). The results indicated that concentrations of heavy metals were higher in the south than the north with a clear boundary near 30° N. The distributions of the six heavy metals could be divided into four groups that corresponded well with different sediment components, suggesting that hydrodynamic sorting processes play an important role in the selective transportation of sedimentary heavy metals. In addition, the spatial distributions of heavy metals were more consistent with fine-grained sediments having a grain size lower than 32 μm. Heavy metal concentrations were slightly higher than found in previous studies conducted from 2002 to 2010. In addition, their spatial patterns have changed drastically compared to data from 2006, suggesting that intensive inland human activities have had a profound impact on heavy metal transportation and distribution in the estuarine & inner-shelf regions of the ECS.
Influence of Sediment Characteristics on Heavy Metal Fraction Distribution in the Water-Level Fluctuation Zone of the Three Gorges Reservoir Area, China

Abstract:The concentrations and fractions of heavy metal in sediments at different altitudes in the water-level fluctuation zone (WLFZ) of the Three Gorges Reservoir (TGR) were determined. The Pearson correlation analysis was used to determine the differences between heavy metal fractions and physicochemical properties. The results showed that Cr and Cu were mainly horizontally and vertically distributed in the residual (RE) fractions with the highest stability and relatively low ecological risk. Pb and Zn were mainly in the Fe-Mn oxide-bound (Fe-Mn) fractions, which can be reduced to a bioavailable state when the redox potential decreased or the oxygen was severely depleted in the aquatic environment. There were significant differences in the heavy metal fractions and risks in sediment in the three different altitudes of the TGR. The physicochemical characteristics of the sediment indicated that the sediments in the low altitude area had rough forms and large pores. In addition, heavy metals at low altitudes were likely to be released into the water during antiseasonal water storage, causing secondary pollution, which greatly increased the mobility of heavy metals and ecological risks to the environment.

Abstract:Riverine sediment cores of the Hanjiang River tributaries and corresponding river mouths in the upper reach of the Danjiangkou Reservoir were taken to analyze the sedimentary heavy metal contents at vertical profile,then environmental risk of those metals was assessed by using both effects limits(the standard of New York state department of environmental conservation,NYSDEC) and Lars Hkanson potential ecological risk index.The results showed that contents of Cd,Cr,Cu,and Zn in the sediment cores from the river mouth were 1.86,271.2,99.91 and 478.3 mg/kg,respectively,which were at least 2 times than those in the Hanjiang River tributaries.According to NYSDEC guidlines,contents of Pb in the surface sediments(0-10 cm) were below LEL(Lowest Effect Level) value,and it was between LEL and SEL(Severe Effect Level) value for Cd,as well as for Ni.However,contents of Cr,Cu and Zn in certain layer of surface sediments exceeded their respective SEL values,indicating severely sedimentary pollution.Enrichment factors for Cd,Cr,Cu and Zn in surface sediments were 7.12,1.80,1.63 and 2.84,respectively.Correlation analysis revealed that Ni and Pb were originated from natural sources,while Cd,Cr,Cu and Zn were mainly influenced by anthropogenic activities.Compared to the background values of the Danjiangkou Reservoir,the studied heavy metals in the surface sediments had a high ecological risk in sequence as follow Cd Cu CrZnPb.

Abstract:As ubiquitous pollutants, understanding the levels of contamination, eco-risks, and potential sources of heavy metals in lake and reservoir sediments is essential for the development of pollution control policies to ensure the ecological safety of the aquatic environment. However, large-scale studies of heavy metal elements in sediments face many limitations, and most of them are characterized as small and staged. Therefore, in order to evaluate the level of heavy metal contamination in lake and reservoir sediments in China and to explore the pattern of spatial distribution of heavy metals, this article systematically collected the concentrations of seven heavy metals, Pb, Cd, Hg, Cr, As, Zn, and Cu, in the sediments of the lakes and reservoirs in question since 2000, evaluated the calculation of the accumulation index and the assessment of health risk, analyzed the spatial and temporal variations, and conducted a preliminary investigation of the sources. The results of the study showed that the contents of the seven elements were higher than the national soil pollution control standards, and various elements were enriched to different degrees, among which Cd and Hg exceeded the standard more seriously. The overall pollution level of reservoir sediments was lower than that of lake sediments, and the pollution of reservoirs was relatively light; from the distribution characteristics, the pollution level and ecological risk of different heavy metal elements showed an obvious imbalance in distribution. The heavy metal concentration, ground accumulation index, and ecological risk in the southern region are overall high. There is a good agreement with the Hu Huanyong line; from the historical change characteristics, except for the average Igeo of Hg, which shows an obvious upward trend, the average Igeo of several other heavy metals basically shows a decreasing or stable trend; the sources of heavy metals are complex and extensive in terms of the national scale, and industry, transportation, and agriculture are the main sources.
