Abstract:BACKGROUND: As a group of primary cells, stem cells have the potentials of self-renewal and multi-directional differentiation, and can replace the damaged cardiomyocytes to construct new vessels, and enable the asthenic heart to obtain the blood pumping function again. This study summarized the progress of stem cell transplantation in treating cardiovascular diseasesDATA SOURCES: A computer-based online search of Pubmed database was undertaken to identify English articles published from January 2000 to December 2005, the keywords were "stem cell transplantation, cardiovascular diseases".STUDY SELECTION: The articles were primarily checked, and the references of each literature were looked up. Inclusive criteria: articles correlated with the classification and the transplanted pathways of stem cells, the present status,problems and prospect of its basic and clinical application in treating cardiovascular diseases. Exclusive criteria: repetitive study or Meta analysis.DATA EXTRACTION: Totally 50 relative literatures were collected, and 31 of them accorded with the inclusive criteria,and the other 19 were excluded due to the old or repetitive contents. Of the 31 involved literatures, 19 were about the classification of stem cells used in cardiovascular system, 1 about the transplanted pathways of stem cells, 8 about the application of stem cells in treating cardiovascular diseases, and 3 about the existing problems and prospect.DATA SYNTHESIS: With the continuous improvement of living level and aging, cardiovascular diseases have become the main causes for death and disability in modern society. Stem cells have the potentials of multi-directional differentiation, and have become the main seed cells for cell replacement therapy, and provided important investigative and applicating field for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. At present, there are many stem cells to be used in cardiovascular system, including embryonic stem cells, umbilical cord blood stem cells, peripheral blood stem cells, bone marrow stem cells, skeletal muscle satellite cells, myocardial stem cells, adipose tissue-derived stem cells, etc. The common pathways for stem cell transplantation are direct injection into myocardium, intracoronary artery injection and intravenous injection. Stem cell transplantation can treat cardiovascular diseases by promoting angiogenesis and myocardial regeneration, decreasing myocardial apoptosis and reducing myocardial collagen, then ameliorate the cardiac function, and breakthrough and progress have been made in both animal models and clinical studies. However, problems sill exist to be solved, and there is agreat distance to the routine clinical application.CONCLUSION: Stem cells are the important fields of the basic research and clinical application for preventing and treating cardiovascular diseases, thus it will provide powerful theoretical and practical supports for the more effective prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases to solving the key points and difficulties in cardiovascular diseases.

Abstract:<p>Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Currently, many methods have been proposed by researchers for the prevention and treatment of CVD; among them, stem cell-based therapies are the most promising. As the cells of origin for various mature cells, stem cells have the ability to self-renew and differentiate. Stem cells have a powerful ability to regenerate biologically, self-repair, and enhance damaged functional tissues or organs. Allogeneic stem cells and somatic stem cells are two types of cells that can be used for cardiac repair. Theoretically, dilated cardiomyopathy and acute myocardial infarction can be treated with such cells. In addition, stem cell transplantation procedures, including intravenous, epicardial, cardiac, and endocardial injections, have been reported to provide significant benefits in clinical practice; however, there are still a number of issues that need further study and consideration, such as the form and quantity of transplanted cells and post-transplantation health. The goal of this analysis was to summarize the recent advances in stem cell-based therapies and their efficacy in cardiovascular regenerative medicine.</p>

Abstract:With the discovery of cardiac stem cell,the conception of the heart considered to be a terminally differentiated organ was changed.Cardiac stem cells possess the common characteristics of self-renew,clone formation and differentiating into cardiomyocyte,smooth muscle cell,and endothelial cell.Because of the properties of tissue specificity and lineage commitment,cardiac stem cells are considered to have great advantages over other stem cells in the treatment of cardiovascular disease.However,the low rate of engraftment still remains a problem to be solved.In recent years,people attempted to combine stem cell therapy with other ways,such as tissue engineering,gene therapy,exosome therapy,to cure cardiovascular diseases,aiming at finding better ways to treat the cardiovascular disease.This article is mainly for the reviewing of the mechanisms underlying the stem cell therapy and the combinatory use of new technology emerged these years.

Abstract:Stem cells are undifferentiated cells capable of self-renewal and differentiation, giving rise to specialized functional cells. Stem cells are of pivotal importance for organ and tissue development, homeostasis, and injury and disease repair. Tissue-specific stem cells are a rare population residing in specific tissues and present powerful potential for regeneration when required. They are usually named based on the resident tissue, such as hematopoietic stem cells and germline stem cells. This review discusses the recent advances in stem cells of various tissues, including neural stem cells, muscle stem cells, liver progenitors, pancreatic islet stem/progenitor cells, intestinal stem cells, and prostate stem cells, and the future perspectives for tissue stem cell research.

Abstract:Diseases of the cardiovascular system, especially myocardial infarction remains a leading cause of morbidity and mortality. Autologous adult stem cells transplantation bring new hope of treatment for myocardial infarction. Up to present , these cells include skeletal muscle satellite cell, marrow stem cell, and endothelial precursor cell. Autologous cell transplantation avoid immunologic rejection and ethics related issues. Recent studies revealed that transplanted stem cells can survive in cardiac scar tissue with subsequent improved cardiac function. Further studies are necessary in order to understand the intergradation of implanted cells into host myocardium and to elucidate optimal cell number of cells obtained by proliferation, the proper delivery technique, and finally the influence on global cardiac function.

Abstract:The current pharmacotherapy is inadequate in preventing the progression of ventricular remodeling and congestive heart failure. Cellular cardiomyoplasty, through cell transplantation or regeneration of cardiomyocytes is a potential therapeutic approach to prevent left ventricular remodeling and the development of congestive heart failure after myocardial infarction. Recent research has focused on stem cells, which are undifferentiated pluripotent cells and can differentiate into a wide variety of cells including cardiac myocytes and endothelial cells. The majority data on stem cell transplantation were preclinical animal studies, all showing that stem cell therapy may replace lost heart muscle (myogenesis) and enhance cardiovascular revascularization (angiogenesis and vasculogenesis). These findings have been rapidly applied to human trials, but there were many questions remain to be solved. Although the results are interesting and safe, early phase Ⅰ clinical studies are small in scale and very preliminary. Data from large, randomized controlled trials are needed to confirm the short- and long-term effects of cellular cardiomyoplasty.

Abstract:The therapy of cardiovascular disease with stem cell transplantation has advanced greatly in animal experiment and clinical test. Applying efficient techniques to noninvasively monitor and track stem cell transplantation and dynamically observe the cell distribution and migration accelerate the development of stem cell therapies in both animal experiments and clinical applications. With the development of various imaging techniques and contrast agents in vivo tracking of stem cells transplantation in cardiovascular disease,optical imaging,radionuclide imaging and magnetic resonance imaging were reviewed in this article.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To introduce the basic research and clinical application of stem cells transplantation for treating diabetic foot.METHODS:The recent original articles about the stem cells transplantation for treating diabetic foot were extensively reviewed.RESULTS:Transplanted different stem cells in diabetic foot could enhanced ulceration healing in certain conditions, increase neovascularization and avoid amputation.CONCLUSION:Stem cells transplantation for treating diabetic foot may be a future approach.

Abstract:Stem cell-based therapy is emerging as a promising strategy to treat end-stage heart failure, a leading cause of morbidity and mortality. Stem cells can be isolated from a variety of sources and exhibit unique characteristics that impact their potential therapeutic utility. The adult heart contains small populations of committed, multipotent cardiac stem cells (CSC), which are adapted to the cardiac microenvironment and participate in postnatal physiological and pathological cardiac renewal or repair. These cells can be isolated, expanded in culture, and administered therapeutically to improve cardiac function in the setting of heart failure. CSC can be differentiated into three distinct cardiovascular lineages and exhibit enhanced paracrine factor production and engraftment as compared with other types of mesenchymal stem cells, which in turn may translate into improved therapeutic efficacy. The cell surface marker expression and phenotype of these CSC, however, depends on the method of isolation, selection and propagation, which likely explains the variable experimental results obtained to date. Moreover, invasive procedures are required to obtain CSC from humans. Early trials using autologous CSC in patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy have demonstrated feasibility and safety, along with variable degrees of therapeutic efficacy in terms of enhancing myocardial viability and cardiac function. Further studies are needed to optimize methods of CSC isolation, manipulation and delivery. If fully realized, the potential of CSC therapy could fundamentally change the approach to the treatment of end-stage heart failure.

Abstract:Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of mobility and morality worldwide, in which the ischemic heart disease is the most common type of the diseases. During last decade, a major progress in the study of the pathogenesis of heart disease has been achieved. For example, the discovery of adult stem/progenitor cells in the heart and vessel tissues may play a role in tissue regeneration. However, the issue of 31 retractions for cardiac stem cell work has caused a "storm of trust" in the heart stem cell field, in which both founders and scientists have become cautious and conservative in stem cell research of the heart. Despite that the existence of adult cardiac stem cells has been denied, recent studies confirmed that there are many other resident stem/progenitor cells in adult heart. Although these cells cannot differentiate into cardiomyocytes, the role they played in heart repair after injury should not be ignored. The purpose of this short article is to briefly review the current research progress in resident stem/progenitor cells in the heart, to discuss how they function during cardiac repair and to point out unanswered questions in the research field.

Abstract:Cell therapy is an important topic in the field of regeneration medicine that is gaining attention within the scientific community. However, its potential for treatment in coronary heart disease (CHD) has yet to be established. Several various strategies, types of cells, routes of distribution, and supporting procedures have been tried and refined to trigger heart rejuvenation in CHD. However, only a few of them result in a real considerable promise for clinical usage. In this review, we give an update on techniques and clinical studies of cell treatment as used to cure CHD that are now ongoing or have been completed in the previous five years. We also highlight the emerging efficacy of stem cell treatment for CHD. We specifically examine and comment on current breakthroughs in cell treatment applied to CHD, including the most effective types of cells, transport modalities, engineering, and biochemical approaches used in this context. We believe the current review will be helpful for the researcher to distill this information and design future studies to overcome the challenges faced by this revolutionary approach for CHD.

Abstract:BACKGROUND: The repair of myocardial regeneration by cell transplantation is restricted by the source of cells, immune rejection, ethics and imprecise efficacy. Looking for a new kind of seed cells has become a trend in the field of myocardial regeneration. Numerous studies have demonstrated cardiac stem cells (CSCs) exist in the mammalian hearts. The research of CSCs has become a hotspot recently because of their differentiation into myocardial cells and participation in the endogenous repair of heart. OBJECTIVE: To review the source, characteristics, induction factors of CSCs and its application in myocardial regeneration. METHODS: We searched the Medline database (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed) from 2000 to 2009 for the relevant articles on the source, differentiation, characteristic of CSCs and the role in myocardial regeneration, including clinical and basic researches. The key words were "cardiac stem cell". A total of 27 articles were analyzed after excluding the repeated studies and Meta analysis articles. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: CSCs are a kind of stem cells with self-renewal and proliferation potential. They can differentiate into many kinds of cells, such as myocardial cells, endothelial cells and vascular smooth muscle cells, and play an important role in the maintenance of self-stability and repair of heart. Many different phenotypes of CSCs have be found, which can take part in myocardial and vascular regeneration. The therapies on the basis of CSCs put forward a new way for the treatment of heart disease. Compared with other adult stem cells, CSCs should be a more reasonable cell source of the myocardial regenerative treatment.

Abstract:Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of mortality and morbidity around the world.In recent years,cell transplantation has emerged as an effective therapeutic method.Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell(BMSC) not only can differentiate into cardiomyocyte and endothelial cell,but also can be got easily and its immunogenicity is lower,so it is a good resource of cell therapy for cardiovascular disease.There have been many researches including animal experiments and clinical trials on treating cardiovascular disease with BMSC,they have proved that BMSC can improve the heart function and reduce LV chamber enlargement after transplantation.But there are still many questions.So there is a long way to go before BMSC can be used on the patients.In the text,we reviewed the characteristics of BMSC,the mechanisms of the ability that BMSC improve heart function,the current situation of the animal and clinical researches,the questions need to be resolved for treating cardiovascular diseases with BMSC.

Abstract:End-stage heart disease is a common clinical syndrome characterized by loss of cardiomyocytes and the occurrence of heart failure.At this time there is no effective way to recover or regenerate lost myocardium.However,current research suggests that stem cell transplantation into affected areas may promote myocardial repair when the stem cells differentiate into cardiomyocytes.This article summarizes recent research in cardiomyocyte regeneration using stem cell transplantation.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:Some studies have indicated that stem cells transplantation therapy can replace necrotic myocardial cells,increase the number of functional myocardial cells,and build new blood vessels to improve blood supply and heart function.In this paper,we summarized the domestic development and achievement in this field in recent years.DATA SOURCES:Computer-based online search of Medline,CBM and CNKI databases was undertaken to identify related clinical(regardless of age and sex of subjects) and basic researches either in vivo or vitro dated from January 2001 to November 2006 with the Keywords of "stem cell,bone marrow,mesenchymal,transplantation" in English and "stem cell,transplantation,clinical research,myocardial infarction,heart failure" in Chinese.STUDY SELECTION:820 literatures were collected.All titles and most abstracts of articles were read through.Only articles ①related to stem cells transplantation therapy,②related to treatment of angiocardiopathy,and ③related to clinical treatment were selected.Review,repeated study and Meta analytical papers were excluded.DATA EXTRACTION:Totally 225 articles matched the inclusive criteria,and 595 were excluded.Of 225 articles,30 were analyzed involved 13 in English,and 19 in Chinese.One Chinese article was searched manually from supplement.DATA SYNTHESIS:①Since 2002,domestic researchers began to explore how to use stem cells transplantation to treat angiocardiopathy.②Nowadays,the majority of stem cells used in clinical practice are bone marrow mononuclear cells.Other kinds of stem cells including bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells,skeletal muscle stem cells,and peripheral blood stem cells are also applied in clinic.③Intracoronary injection is the main way in stem cell injection.It is mainly used to treat some clinical diseases such as acute and olden myocardial infarction and chronic cardiac insufficiency.CONCLUSION:Stem cells transplantation can replace necrotic myocardial cells,increase the number of functional myocardial cells,and build new blood vessels to improve the blood supply and heart function.Clinical researches have showed that it is one of the methods to deal with angiocardiopathy due to its safety and efficacy.

Abstract:Stem cells have the remarkable potential to develop into many different cell types, essentially without limit to replenish other cells as long as the person or animal is still alive, offering immense hope of curing Alzheimer's disease, repairing damaged spinal cords, treating kidney, liver and lung diseases and making damaged hearts whole. Until recently, scientists primarily worked with two kinds of stem cells from animals and humans: embryonic stem cells and non-embryonic “somatic” or “adult” stem cells. Recent breakthrough make it possible to convert or “reprogram” specialized adult cells to assume a stem stem-like cells with different technologies. The review will briefly discuss the recent progresses in this area.
