Abstract:Recently there has been an increasing interest in molecular collisions. This is apparent from the large number of review articles that have appeared in the last years . In particular, studies of rotational excitations have dominated the literature. In addition to its important role in gas phase relaxation processes, the knowledge of inelastic rotational scatterimg is of current interest in resonance fluorescence and in predicting laser action. In order to avoid the large numbers of coupled channels, various approximate procedures have been presented, these include the distorted wave Born approximation, various kinds of semiclassical approximation, the infinite sudden approximation, the effective potential method, and so on. As long as they are approximation, there is always a need to test their validity and accuracy. The theoretical test is usually provided by comparison with the close coupling equation. B.H.Choi and K.T.Tang have presented a somewhat diferent formulation of the close coupling approximation for rotational excitation in atom diatom collisions, In this paper we use the theoretical formulation to calculate the angular distribution(the differential cross sections) of rotational excitation for inelastic collisions between He and H 2.
