Abstract:Objective:To investigate the changes and clinical implication of plasma angiotensinogen (ATG) concentration in the patients with atherosclerotic cerebral infarction (ACI).Methods:The plasma concentrations of ATG and angiotensinⅡ (ATⅡ) in 57 patients with ACI and 32 healthy controls were measured with radioimmunoassay. Results:The plasma ATG concentrations in the acute phase of ACI patients 〔(194 47±43 83)ng/L〕 were significantly higher than that in the recovery phase 〔(163 45±42 64)ng/L〕 and that in the controls 〔(159 34±45 24)ng/L〕.Also ATG levels were markedly higher 〔(236 91± 48 53)ng/L 〕 in the severe patients than that in the mild patients 〔(173 84±33 87)ng/L〕.There was no correlation between the plasma ATG concentration and concomitant presence of hypertension or the lesion sites. However, the plasma ATG concentration correlated linearly with the plasma ATⅡ concentration. Conclusions:Cerebral infarction can result in an elevated concentration of plasma ATG,which may be related with the degree of ischemic brain lesions.
