A comparison of patients' satisfaction with complete dentures, complete overdentures, and implant - supported overdentures

Abstract:ObjectiveTo compare patients' satisfaction with complete dentures(CD),complete overdentures(COD) and implant-supported overdentures (IOD).MethodsThree groups of patients restored with CD、COD and IOD were studied.Each group consisted of 14 subjects.The patients' satisfaction was investigated by means of questionnaire after half a year of wearing dentures.ResultsThe overall satisfaction degree of three groups of patients with their dentures had no significant difference,while the satisfaction degree with masticatory founction of IOD group was significantly higher than that of CD group.The difference of CD experience between CD group and IOD group was no significant.When compared with CD patients the problems of denture loosing and food selection limiting of IOD patients were significantly improved,but the tenderness of alveolar ridge and the asthenic feeling during mastication of the three groups had no significant difference.ConclusionIOD is a good selection to edentulous patients since it can make patients more satisfied with masticatory function of dentures and bring about fewer using problems than does CD.
