Abstract:The environmental consequence of polyaspartic acid (PASP) is comprehensively evaluated. By tests of aerobic biodegradation, it is concluded that PASP is a readily biodegradable polymer. By germinating tests of monocotyledon(wheat) and dicotyledon (cucumber), it is showed that 1 000 mg/L of PASP has not markedly influence on the germination ratio and shape of sprout. By tests of mouse acute toxicity, it is revealed that LD_(50)≥5 000 mg/kg and PASP is an actually nonpoisonous material. By tests of mouse micronucleus, it is showed that micronucleus generation ratio is nearly negative under the level of 5.0 g/kg, i.e. PASP is not mutagen of chromosome aberration type. The results of Ames test indicate that PASP is negative, the maximal value of MR is 1.45 and the minimal value of MR is 0.67 in the range of 0.008~5 mg/dish for TA97, TA98, TA100, TA102 with or without S9, i.e. PASP is also not mutagen of gene mutation type. By comprehensive analysis of these data, it is primarily drawn a conclusion that PASP is an environmentally friendly chemical.
