The effects of different doses of valsartan therapy on the cardiac function in the patients of chronic congestive heart failure

Abstract:Objective: To investigate cardiac function improvement and remodeling process with different doses of valsartan therapy in patients with chronic congestive heart failure. Methods: In 60 patients with cardiac dysfunction, On a basic medical therapy including digitalis and diuretics, they were divided randomly into 40 mg valsartan group and large dosage valsartan group for a 6 months after admission. Results: There was no significant difference in cardiac parameters between 1 month therapy and pretreatment in both groups ,respectively. After 3 months therapy, the parameters of left ventricular systolic and diastolic function was more or less improved in both groups compared with their pretreatment level.More significant improvement was observed after 6 months therapy. There was no significant difference between the two groups after 3 months therapy(NYHA 2.71±0.46 vs 2.98±0.34, P0.05). But with the prolongation of treatment, LVEF, the cardiac function in the large dosage group improved more significantly than those in the 40 mg group.In both groups(LVEF 48.1±2.9 vs 43.8±2.7, P 0.05 ; NYHA 1.91±0.31 vs 2.39±0.50, P0.05). The adverse effect was hardly observed.The patients were all in good tolerance. Conclusion: Based on the medication of digitalis and diuretics, valsartan therapy can improve left ventricular performance, reverse LV remodeling in patients of heart failure.
