Abstract:A LS estimation-based method for width detection of QRS complexes was introduced in this paper. Based on the detected position of QRS complexes, a basic point inside the QRS complexes was chosen. Then the LS estimations and linear measurements of linear segments from this point were calculated backward and forward. Upon these parameters, a basic linear segment was checked out, upon which the onset and offset of the QRS complex were determined by the hypothesis testing. The method was verified by all 105 records of QT database from MIT-BIH database and reached the average error of 1.2 ms on the 3623 QRSs marked by one group of cardiologists and 2.1 ms on the 404 QRSs marked by another group of cardiologists. Besides, the method is available for real-time extraction.
Detection of QRS Complex Using Mathematical Morphology and Wavelet Transform

Abstract:A electrocardiogram QRS complex detection method was developed based on mathematical morphology and wavelet transforms. The mathematical morphology operator is based on the signal shape which clarifies the signal's peaks and valleys. The wavelet transform does multi-resolution analysis on the signal which clarifies the electrocardiogram (ECG) signal characteristics to more easily detect the QRS complex. Test results show that the analytical method can remove the influence of the baseline, low frequency signals and high T complex disturbances. The result provides better analysis than conventional wavelet transforms. So that the signal-to-noise ralio can be improved, and QRS detected rate rises to 99.86%.
A new approach of QRS complex detection based on matched filtering and triangle character analysis

Abstract:QRS complex detection usually provides the fundamentals to automated electrocardiogram (ECG) analysis. In this paper, a new approach of QRS complex detection without the stage of noise suppression was developed and evaluated, which was based on the combination of two techniques: matched filtering and triangle character analysis. Firstly, a template of QRS complex was selected automatically by the triangle character in ECG, and then it was time-reversed after removing its direct current component. Secondly, matched filtering was implemented at low computational cost by finite impulse response, which further enhanced QRS complex and attenuated non-QRS regions containing P-wave, T-wave and various noise components. Subsequently, triangle structure-based threshold decision was processed to detect QRS complexes. And RR intervals and triangle structures were further analyzed for the reduction of false-positive and false-negative detections. Finally, the performance of the proposed algorithm was tested on all 48 records of the MIT-BIH Arrhythmia Database. The results demonstrated that the detection rate reached 99.62 %, the sensitivity got 99.78 %, and the positive prediction was 99.85 %. In addition, the proposed method was able to identify QRS complexes reliably even under the condition of poor signal quality.
The Strategy of T Wave Detection and QT Interval Extraction

Abstract:This paper introduced a new strategy of LSE-based T wave detection and QT interval extraction. Based on the detected offset and onset of QRS complexes by the detection algorithm, The LSE of sixteen point linear segments from offset was calculated forward. The peak or valley of T wave was detected under a window determined by LSE and then decided an R point and R regression line on LSE. The offset of T wave was determined by the deviation that before R point between ECG data and the R regression line. Thus the QT interval was extracted. The strategy was verified by all the records from QT database, in which 3 542 T wave offsets was marked by cardiologists, and reached the 98.2% of T wave detection ratio, the 97.2% of QT interval extraction precision and the average error of 1.0ms on QT interval extraction.
Knowledge Discovery Based Auxiliary Diagnosis Algorithm for Electrocardiograph On-Line Data

Abstract:A series of data knowledge discovery based electrocardiograph(ECG) auxiliary diagnosis algorithms were presented against the characteristics of huge data quantum,high accuracy and rapidity demands in the ECG monitor and diagnosis process.The algorithm consists of several stages,including data distinguishing,data redundant processing,data conversion and data extraction.The characteristics of wavelet transform,multiresolution and high anti-interference,were used to detect QRS,P and T waves and improve the accuracy of character detection.Clustering analysis characterized by better robustness and capability to analyze huge data quantum was used to classify QRS wave.The algorithm combines diagnosis based on one beat,string diagnosis and comprehensive analysis with multiparameters.Verified by partial data of MIT-BIH standard ECG database and arrhythmia data files diagnosed by ECG experts,the detectability exceeded 95%,which showed that the algorithm could analyze partial arrhythmias effectively.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE: Detecting changes in the QRS complexes in ECG signals is regarded as a straightforward, noninvasive, inexpensive, and preliminary diagnosis approach for evaluating the cardiac health of patients. Therefore, detecting QRS complexes in ECG signals must be accurate over short times. However, the reliability of automatic QRS detection is restricted by all kinds of noise and complex signal morphologies. The objective of this paper is to address automatic detection of QRS complexes.METHODS: In this paper, we proposed a new algorithm for automatic detection of QRS complexes using dual channels based on U-Net and bidirectional long short-term memory. First, a proposed preprocessor with mean filtering and discrete wavelet transform was initially applied to remove different types of noise. Next the signal was transformed and annotations were relabeled. Finally, a method combining U-Net and bidirectional long short-term memory with dual channels was used for the automatic detection of QRS complexes.RESULTS: The proposed algorithm was trained and tested using 44 ECG records from the MIT-BIH arrhythmia database and CPSC2019 dataset, which achieved 99.06% and 95.13% for sensitivity, 99.22% and 82.03% for positive predictivity, and 98.29% and 78.73% accuracy on the two datasets respectively.CONCLUSION: Experimental results prove that the proposed method may be useful for automatic detection of QRS complex task.SIGNIFICANCE: The proposed method not only has application potential for QRS complex detecting for large ECG data, but also can be extended to other medical signal research fields.

Abstract:QRS detection is a crucial step in analyzing the electrocardiogram (ECG). For ECG collected by wearable devices, a robust QRS detection algorithm that yields high accuracy in spite of abnormal QRS morphologies and severe noise is needed. In this paper, we propose a QRS detection method based on high-resolution wavelet packet decomposition (HR-WPD) and convolutional neural network (CNN). Firstly, we design the HR-WPD that decomposes the ECG into multiple signals with different frequency bands to provide detailed QRS features. Secondly, all the decomposed signals are forwarded to a CNN for comprehensive morphology analysis and QRS prediction. To further improve the robustness, a time-attention module acting on the input signals is added to the CNN. Finally, a variable threshold is imposed to locate the QRS. The proposed method is validated by using two noisy databases (i.e., Telehealth Database (TELEDB) and MIT-BIH Noise Stress Test Database (NSTDB)) and one database with multiple ECG morphologies (i.e., MIT-BIH Arrhythmia Database (ARRDB)). The experiment results show that the proposed method achieves a comparable or even better performance compared with state-of-art methods on the TELEDB (SE 98.99%, P+ 95.57%, ER 5.61%, F1 97.25%), NSTDB (SE 99.25%, P+ 96.31%, ER 4.55%, F1 97.76%) and ARRDB (SE 99.89%, P+ 99.90%, ER 0.21%, F1 99.89%), suggesting that it is highly applicable to the QRS detection for ECG collected by wearable devices.

Abstract:The QRS complex detection is very important to ECG analysis. This paper aims to present an algorithm of QRS complex detection based on mathematical morphology and envelope. Baseline wandering is removed from ECG signal by morphological method. Then the signal gets the envelope through a low-pass filter, improving signal-to-noise .The performance of the algorithm is evaluated with MIT-BIH database. The algorithm gets the high detection rate (99.79%) and high speed.

Abstract:Objective:To improve the detection of QRS complex in ECG signal with median filter,introduce extra criterions to determine the wave type and QRS boundaries.Methods:Based on the difference method,firstly noises such as 50 Hz noise and baseline drift were removed.After extracting amplitude and slope information of ECG signal,the ups and downs of the wave were obtained by adaptive thresholds.Results:Virtual detection system wes establish based on LabVIEW.The system was tested by MIT-BIH standard ECG database,and the correct rate reached 99.69%.Conclusion:Experiments show that the measurement is of high precision and lay the foundation for clinical ECG diagnosis.

Abstract:A QRS detection method is proposed based on the principal component analysis (PCA) and the combined wavelet entropy for 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) signals. Firstly, the base line wander and the high frequency interference are removed for ECG signals. The PCA method is employed to reduce the dimension of filtered signals. Then, the quasi-period sorting method is proposed to reorder principal components (PCs), which may help the following combined wavelet entropy based method detecting the QRS complex in the lower sorted PCs easily. The proposed method is evaluated against the standard St. Petersburg institute of cardiological technics 12-lead arrhythmia database with other two different QRS detection methods for the single-lead ECG signal and two-lead ECG signals respectively. Experimental results show that the proposed method gives the best overall performance. It achieves an average detection rate of 99.980%, a sensitivity of 99.997%, and a positive prediction of 99.987%.

Abstract:A method based on wavelet transform has been developed for detecting QRS-waves.The MIT-BIH database is used to evaluate this method, and the accuracy is over 99.5%. Then the method is implanted into the embedded system to implement the real-time detection of ECG. This method has good performances in time-delay and computation.

Abstract:Introduction: The QRS complex is the most prominent waveform within the electrocardiograph (ECG) signal. The accurate detection of the QRS complex is an essential step in the ECG analysis algorithm, which can provide fundamental information for the monitoring and diagnosis of the cardiovascular diseases. Methods: Seven public ECG datasets were used in the experiments. A simple and effective QRS complex detection algorithm based on the deep neural network (DNN) was proposed. The DNN model was composed of two parts: a feature pyramid network (FPN) based backbone with dual input channels to generate the feature maps, and a location head to predict the probability of point belonging to the QRS complex. The depthwise convolution was applied to reduce the parameters of the DNN model. Furthermore, a novel training strategy was developed. The target of the DNN model was generated by using the points within 75 milliseconds and beyond 150 milliseconds from the closest annotated QRS complexes, and artificial simulated ECG segments with high heart rates were generated in the data augmentation. The number of parameters and floating point operations (FLOPs) of our model was 26976 and 9.90M, respectively. Results: The proposed method was evaluated through a cross-dataset test and compared with the sophisticated state-of-the-art methods. On the MITBIH NST, the proposed method demonstrated slightly better sensitivity (95.59% vs. 95.55%) and lower presicion (91.03% vs. 92.93%). On the CPSC 2019, the proposed method have similar sensitivity (95.15% vs.95.13%) and better precision (91.75% vs. 82.03%). Discussion: Experimental results show the proposed algorithm achieved a comparable performance with only a few parameters and FLOPs, which would be useful for the application of ECG analysis on the wearable device.
Improving QRS detection for artifacts reduction

Abstract:Since the QRS complex in electrocardiogram signals is one of the most important tasks to describe the operation of heart, high accuracy detection for this complex should be considered. In this study one of the newest methods of QRS complex detection combined with several artifact sources reduction methods has been performed. QRS detection algorithm includes baseline drift removal, Butterworth filtering, notch filtering and extracting five special features from ECG to identify QRS complex. In order to validate the robustness of this method, four important artifact sources such as power line interference, electrode contact noise, motion artifact and muscle contraction (EMG) have been produced and combined with ECG signal. The performance of this approach against these noises based on three MIT-BIU recording classes (Normal, LQT and TWA) has been discussed with ROC (Receiver Operating Characteristics). With proposed QRS detection algorithm 100% and 94.88% accuracy has been achieved in best and worst case respectively. Thus this method has the ability to cancel respiration modulation and reduce EMG noise, motion and power line artifacts effectively.

Abstract:The accurate QRS detection provides fundamentals for the automated ECG analysis.To improve the QRS detection accuracy,a QRS detection method based on the independent component analysis(ICA)and combined wavelet entropy(CWS)is proposed for multi-lead ECG signals.The ICA method is employed to extract independent components(ICs)corresponding to the ventricular activity from filtered multi-lead ECG signals.Each IC is transformed by the continuous wavelet transform(CWT)and the phase space of the CWT coefficient is reconstructed.The IC has been reordered based on the QRS information in the phase space.Finally,the CWS based method is employed to detect the QRS of multi-lead ECG signals.The proposed method is evaluated against the standard St.Petersburg 12-lead arrhythmia database and the 64-lead canine epicardial database with other two different QRS detection methods.Experimental results show that the proposed method achieves the detection rate of 99.97% and 100% respectively,which gives the best overall performance.

Abstract:BackgroundThe QRS complex is the most noticeable feature in the electrocardiogram (ECG) signal, therefore, its detection is critical for ECG signal analysis. The existing detection methods largely depend on hand-crafted manual features and parameters, which may introduce significant computational complexity, especially in the transform domains. In addition, fixed features and parameters are not suitable for detecting various kinds of QRS complexes under different circumstances.MethodsIn this study, based on 1-D convolutional neural network (CNN), an accurate method for QRS complex detection is proposed. The CNN consists of object-level and part-level CNNs for extracting different grained ECG morphological features automatically. All the extracted morphological features are used by multi-layer perceptron (MLP) for QRS complex detection. Additionally, a simple ECG signal preprocessing technique which only contains difference operation in temporal domain is adopted.ResultsBased on the MIT-BIH arrhythmia (MIT-BIH-AR) database, the proposed detection method achieves overall sensitivity Sen = 99.77%, positive predictivity rate PPR = 99.91%, and detection error rate DER = 0.32%. In addition, the performance variation is performed according to different signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) values.ConclusionsAn automatic QRS detection method using two-level 1-D CNN and simple signal preprocessing technique is proposed for QRS complex detection. Compared with the state-of-the-art QRS complex detection approaches, experimental results show that the proposed method acquires comparable accuracy.

A Comprehensive Comparison of Six Publicly Available Algorithms for Localization of QRS Complex on Electrocardiograph

Abstract:The QRS complex is the most prominent feature of the electrocardiogram (ECG) that is used as a marker to identify the cardiac cycles. Identification of QRS complex locations enables arrhythmia detection and heart rate variability estimation. Therefore, accurate and consistent localization of the QRS complex is an important component of automated ECG analysis which is necessary for the early detection of cardiovascular diseases. This study evaluates the performance of six popular publicly available QRS complex detection methods on a large dataset of over half a million ECGs in a diverse population of patients. We found that a deep-learning method that won first place in the 2019 Chinese physiological challenge (CPSC-1) outperforms the remaining five QRS complex detection methods with an F1 score of 98.8% and an absolute sdRR error of 5.5 ms. We also examined the stratified performance of the studied methods on various cardiac conditions. All six methods had a lower performance in the detection of QRS complexes in ECG signals of patients with pacemakers, complete atrioventricular block, or indeterminate cardiac axis. We also concluded that, in the presence of different cardiac conditions, CPSC-1 is more robust than Pan-Tompkins which is the most popular model for QRS complex detection. We expect that this study can potentially serve as a guide for researchers on the appropriate QRS detection method for their target applications.Clinical Relevance-This study highlights the overall performance of publicly available QRS detection algorithms in a large dataset of diverse patients. We showed that there are specific cardiac conditions that are associated with the poor performance of QRS detection algorithms and may adversely influence the performance of algorithms that rely on accurate and reliable QRS detection.
A Real-time QRS Detector Based on Low-pass Differentiator and Hilbert Transform

Abstract:Electrocardiogram(ECG) is an important physiological signal of the human body. It is widely used in identification and arrhythmia detection. The first step of ECG application is signal segmentation, that is, the QRS detection. An effective and real-time QRS detection algorithm is proposed in this paper. A differentiator with adjustable center frequency is used to capture the first derivative information of the frequency band of the electrocardiogram. Then Hilbert transform is used to generate the envelope of the first derivative. After that, a dual threshold method is introduced to decrease FP and FN. Finally, a more precise R wave position is determined based on derivative method. The detector is validated on MIT-BIH arrhythmia database. The result show that the proposed algorithm has a high Sensitivity of 99.87%, Specificity of 99.84%, and the detection error rate is 0.28%. The average execution time of a 30 minutes record is 2.45s.

Abstract:The QRS wave detection is the key part of ECG automatic analysis.The accuracy of QRS position detected will affect the correctness and veracity of later analysis and signal extraction.At the same time the transaction time for the long-time ECG signal is required.In ANSI/AAMI EC38,it is required that the detected QRS shall in the 150ms range of the signed point.We present an algorithm of QRS detection in this paper: mathematical morphology + extraction of signal envelope which gets good accuracy and efficiency when the range of the signed point is reduced.
