Effect of Paeoniflorin on Oddi's Sphincter in Acute Severe Pancreatitis of Dogs

Abstract:jective:To study the effect of paeoniflorin on Oddi's sphincter (OS) in experimental acute severe pancreatitis (ASP). Methods: Ten dogs were randomly allocated into 2 groups equally: ASP untreated group and paeoniflorin group. The ASP model was prepared by retrograde ducta 1 injection of a mixture of 5% taurocholic acid and autologous bile. OS manometric parameters including basal pressure(BP)and phasic contraction amplitude (PCA) were measured at each time spot before and 30, 60, 90, 120, 180, 240 minutes after the preparation of ASP and 5, 10, 30, 60, 120, 180 minutes after the administration of paeoniflorin. Results: The basal pressure of OS significantly increased after the preparation of ASP( P 0. 01). In paeoniflorin group the BP of OS was significantly decreased in ASP by administration of the drug( P 0. 05) but the drug had no significant effect to PCA( P 05 ). Conclusion :The abnormality of pressure of OS is important factor in the development and severity degree of ASP. Paeoniflorin may have potential effects on ASP by decreasing BP of OS.
