Abstract:Aiming at the problem that hierarchical path planning algorithm always has to store the correspondence between roads of different hierarchies which makes the storage efficiency critical,this paper proposes an improved hierarchical path planning algorithm which is suitable for embedded system.This algorithm enhances computing speed by importing road class information into every road hierarchy,and dynamically switches searching hierarchy and class to reduce hierarchy number and the amount of data.Comparison experiment shows the improved algorithm has better performance than other three kinds of algorithms on the aspects of extended node number and path planning time,and it can satisfy the need of efficient path planning in embedded system.

Abstract:The traditional A* algorithm does not take into account the actual travel time of the mobile robot, there are many turning points in path planning, and it is unable deal with random obstacles in complex environments.Aiming at the above problems, an improved A* algorithm that takes the travel time of the mobile robot as the cost and can adjust the weight of the heuristic function according to the obstacle information is proposed, which effectively reduces the number of turns and the turning angle in path planning. Further optimization is carried out using the Floyd algorithm to remove redundant turning points, reduce the number of turns and improve the smoothness of the path. Compared with the traditional A* algorithm, the path planned by the improved A * algorithm reduces the average number of turns by 49.0%, the turning angle by 50.8%, and the path length by 1.7%.After integrating the DWA algorithm, the local path correction can be performed on the basis of the global path planned by the improved A * algorithm to achieve dynamic obstacle avoidance. Finally, the feasibility and effectiveness of the algorithm are verified by simulation.

Abstract:Motion planning algorithm for robotics is applied to find the approximate path, and the final one is obtained through several times of optimization. Instead of directly controlling the position and viewing direction, users only need to specify the goal position, and the system itself will complete the navigation. The camera is collision-free from surrounding objects during the navigation process, and the presentation on screen is optimized by several basic aesthetic rules. Based on hierarchical decomposition of scenes and introducing efficient ways of path smoothing and viewing orientation planning, the whole planning process is fast and effective.

Abstract:Path planning is one of the important directions in the field of intelligent vehicles research. Traditional path planning algorithms generally use Dijkstra algorithm, Breadth-First-Search (BFS) algorithm and A* algorithm. Dijkstra algorithm is a search-based algorithm, which can search to an optimal path, but the disadvantage is too many expansion nodes, which leads to insufficient search efficiency. BFS algorithm is a heuristic search algorithm, which reduces the disadvantage of too many expansion nodes and improves the search efficiency by heuristic function. A* algorithm is a heuristic search algorithm that combines Dijkstra’s algorithm and BFS algorithm, which has higher search efficiency and can search to an optimal path at the same time, but it is still lacking in the search mode and smoothness of the planned route. This paper first introduces the general path planning algorithm, then introduces and analyzes the A* algorithm, and proposes improvement measures for its shortcomings; finally, the executability and effectiveness of the improved algorithm are tested using simulation, and compared with the traditional A* algorithm, and the results show that the improved A* algorithm has good effect on path planning of intelligent vehicles.

Abstract:With the rapid development of the intelligent driving technology, achieving accurate path planning for unmanned vehicles has become increasingly crucial. However, path planning algorithms face challenges when dealing with complex and ever-changing road conditions. In this paper, aiming at improving the accuracy and robustness of the generated path, a global programming algorithm based on optimization is proposed, while maintaining the efficiency of the traditional A* algorithm. Firstly, turning penalty function and obstacle raster coefficient are integrated into the search cost function to increase the adaptability and directionality of the search path to the map. Secondly, an efficient search strategy is proposed to solve the problem that trajectories will pass through sparse obstacles while reducing spatial complexity. Thirdly, a redundant node elimination strategy based on discrete smoothing optimization effectively reduces the total length of control points and paths, and greatly reduces the difficulty of subsequent trajectory optimization. Finally, the simulation results, based on real map rasterization, highlight the advanced performance of the path planning and the comparison among the baselines and the proposed strategy showcases that the optimized A* algorithm significantly enhances the security and rationality of the planned path. Notably, it reduces the number of traversed nodes by 84%, the total turning angle by 39%, and shortens the overall path length to a certain extent.

Abstract:Abstract Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) is created in the context of the full development and progress of contemporary science and technology, aiming to help people make the best choice, drive the best vehicle, and control the best road network traffic. Intelligent vehicle positioning and navigation system is a high-tech integrated system that applies automatic vehicle positioning technology, geographic information system and database technology, computer technology, multimedia technology, and modern communication technology. In this paper, based on the research of GPS and GIS technology, by analyzing and comparing the advantages and disadvantages of different optimal path planning algorithms, we propose to optimize the A* algorithm by using the minimum heap sorting method for nodes and combining the twoway search and hierarchical search strategies to complete the improvement of the A* algorithm. The experimental results show that the path search speed of the improved algorithm has been significantly improved and the path design optimization is obvious. The improvement algorithm proposed in this paper is feasible and reasonable, which is good for upgrading the in-vehicle navigation system and relieving urban traffic congestion.

Abstract:There are two shortcomings in the application of traditional A* algorithm in the path planning of autonomous driving. One is that the vehicle environment description method suitable for the A* algorithm is not given; the other is that the vehicle contours and kinematic constraints are not considered. Therefore, according to the characteristics of unstructured environment, this paper presents an environment description method combining global navigation layer and local planning layer, and proposes a local motion planning algorithm based on the improved A* algorithm for autonomous driving vehicles in unstructured environment. In the improved algorithm, profile collision is avoided by setting redundant security space, and the cost of path curvature is considered in heuristic function design. Compared with the original algorithm, it can improve the smoothness of the path, so as to get a path more satisfied with vehicle motion constraints. Simulation results show that the improved algorithm can avoid vehicle contours collision and output a smoother path.

Abstract:In field driving activities, off-road areas usually lack existing paths that can be directly driven on by ground vehicles, but their surface environments can still satisfy the planning and passage requirements of some off-road vehicles. Additionally, the existing path planning methods face limitations in complex field environments characterized by undulating terrains and diverse land cover types. Therefore, this study introduces an improved A* algorithm and an adapted 3D model of real field scenes is constructed. A velocity curve is fitted in the evaluation function to reflect the comprehensive influences of different slopes and land cover types on the traffic speed, and the algorithm not only takes the shortest distance as the basis for selecting extension nodes but also considers the minimum traffic speed. The 8-neighborhood search method of the traditional A* algorithm is improved to a dynamic 14-neighborhood search method, which effectively reduces the number of turning points encountered along the path. In addition, corner thresholds and slope thresholds are incorporated into the algorithm to ensure the accessibility of path planning, and some curves and steep slopes are excluded, thus improving the usability and safety of the path. Experimental results show that this algorithm can carry out global path planning in complex field environments, and the planned path has better passability and a faster speed than those of the existing approaches. Compared with those of the traditional A* algorithm, the path planning results of the improved algorithm reduce the path length by 23.30%; the number of turning points is decreased by 33.16%; and the travel time is decreased by 38.92%. This approach is conducive to the smooth progress of various off-road activities and has certain guiding significance for ensuring the efficient and safe operations of vehicles in field environments.

Abstract:Autonomous vehicle technology has become an unprecedented trend in the development of the automobile industry, which can ensure highly efficient use of resources, effectively improve the driving experience, and greatly reduces the driver's burden. As one of the key technologies of autonomous vehicles, path planning has an important impact on the practical applications of autonomous vehicles. Planning a proper and efficient path is a prerequisite, which can improve the driving experience of autonomous vehicles. Therefore, in-depth research and development on applications of AI technology in path planning definitely have significant value in academic research. In this article, we will introduce a variety of path planning approaches for autonomous vehicles. We summarize the attributes of these path planning algorithms; simultaneously, we analyze the improvements to these algorithms. Then, we have a preliminary discussion on the applications in vehicle positioning and navigation. Our ultimate goal is to create a way, explore, and exploit its further values based on the unique characteristics of autonomous vehicles.
Improved Black Hole Algorithm for Intelligent Traffic Navigation

Abstract:Traffic navigation is an important part of intelligent transportation systems (ITSs). In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm for path searching based on an improved black hole (BH) method to enhance the real-time navigation efficiency. The original BH algorithm is optimized firstly. Parallel evolution, and information exchange strategy inspired by the quasi-affine transformation evolution (QUATRE) algorithm, allow agents with effective information to search the solution space quickly and effectively that can prompt the convergence speed and expand the diversity of solutions. At the same time, strengthen the exploitation around the global best solution also can enable agents to find the target quickly. The performance of our algorithm can be confirmed by CEC 2017 benchmark functions. For practical purposes, the optimal path should not only consider the shortest distance, but also the minimum fuel consumption. Besides, the effectiveness and timeliness are of great significance for real-time path navigation. In the simulation system, our proposed algorithm can reduce the error rate of navigation to find a realistic path. The results indicate that the proposed algorithm for navigation is effective and stable.

Abstract:Navigation systems are extensively used in everyday life, but the conventional A* algorithm has several limitations in path planning applications within these systems, such as low degrees of freedom in path planning, inadequate consideration of the effects of special regions, and excessive nodes and turns. Addressing these limitations, an enhanced A* algorithm was proposed using regular hexagonal grid mapping. First, the approach to map modeling using hexagonal grids was described. Subsequently, the A* algorithm was refined by optimizing the calculation of movement costs, thus allowing the algorithm to integrate environmental data more effectively and flexibly adjust node costs while ensuring path optimality. A quantitative method was also introduced to assess map complexity and adaptive heuristics that decrease the number of traversed nodes and increase the search speed. Moreover, a turning penalty measure was implemented to minimize unnecessary turns on the planned paths. Simulation results confirmed that the improved A* algorithm exhibits superior performance, which can dynamically adjust movement costs, enhance search efficiency, reduce turns, improve overall path planning quality, and solve critical path planning issues in navigation systems, greatly aiding the development and design of these systems and making them better suited to meet modern navigation requirements.

Abstract:Path planning is an important field for AGV, and A* algorithm is one of the fastest shortest path algorithms, which is often used in a variety of path planning methods. This paper proposes an improved A* algorithm based on path planning in grid map, aiming at the low efficiency of traditional A* algorithm in searching the map and the existence of many redundant points and turning points in the path. The algorithm uses the weighted Manhattan distance as the heuristic function, and the coefficient changes with the distance. In addition, a turning penalty mechanism is added to the heuristic function to reduce the occurrence of turning points. Finally, a reduction strategy is added to the search function based on the location of the current point and the end point to reduce the search of redundant points. The results of python simulation experiments show that this improved A* algorithm can effectively reduce the redundant points and turns in the search, and improve the search efficiency and the smoothness of the path in the path planning.

Abstract:The path planning of autonomous land vehicle has become a research hotspot in recent years. In this article, we present a novel path planning algorithm for an autonomous land vehicle. According to the characteristics of autonomous movement towards the autonomous land vehicle, an improved A-Star path planning algorithm is designed. The disadvantages of using the A-Star algorithm for path planning are that the path planned by the A-Star algorithm contains many unnecessary turning points and is not smooth enough. Autonomous land vehicle needs to adjust its posture at each turning point, which will greatly waste time and also will not be conducive to the motion control of autonomous land vehicle. In view of these shortcomings, this article proposes a new heuristic function combined with the artificial potential field method, which contains both distance information and obstacle information. Our proposed algorithm shows excellent performance in improving the execution efficiency and reducing the number of turning points. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm, compared with the traditional A-Star algorithm, makes the path smoother and makes the autonomous land vehicle easier to control.

Abstract:Path planning is one of the key aspects of designing and implementing intelligent robots. This paper presents a novel path planning approach for automated guided vehicles (AGVs). In the proposed approach, the overall AGV control system is introduced and the environment is modeled as topological map. An improved version of classical Dijkstra's algorithm is developed aiming to find the globally optimal path which is a set of nodes of the warehouse topological map. Also, the local path planning is addressed by using a heuristics-based algorithm-A* algorithm which searches for the local minimum path between every two neighbor nodes of the global path. To assess the performance of the suggested algorithms, a number of simulation experiments are carried out for a range of scenarios. The result demonstrates the effectiveness of the algorithmic design and the AGV path planning solution.

Abstract:Intelligent mobile robots have been gradually used in various fields, including logistics, healthcare, service, and maintenance. Path planning is a crucial aspect of intelligent mobile robot research, which aims to empower robots to create optimal trajectories within complex and dynamic environments autonomously. This study introduces an improved A* algorithm to address the challenges faced by the preliminary A* pathfinding algorithm, which include limited efficiency, inadequate robustness, and excessive node traversal. Firstly, the node storage structure is optimized using a minimum heap to decrease node traversal time. In addition, the heuristic function is improved by adding an adaptive weight function and a turn penalty function. The original 8-neighbor is expanded to a 16-neighbor within the search strategy, followed by the elimination of invalid search neighbor to refine it into a new 8-neighbor according to the principle of symmetry, thereby enhancing the directionality of the A* algorithm and improving search efficiency. Furthermore, a bidirectional search mechanism is implemented to further reduce search time. Finally, trajectory optimization is performed on the planned paths using path node elimination and cubic Bezier curves, which aligns the optimized paths more closely with the kinematic constraints of the robot derivable trajectories. In simulation experiments on grid maps of different sizes, it was demonstrated that the proposed improved A* algorithm outperforms the preliminary A* Algorithm in various metrics, such as search efficiency, node traversal count, path length, and inflection points. The improved algorithm provides substantial value for practical applications by efficiently planning optimal paths in complex environments and ensuring robot drivability.

Abstract:Path planning plays an essential role in mobile robot navigation, and the A* algorithm is one of the best-known path planning algorithms. However, the conventional A* algorithm and the subsequent improved algorithms still have some limitations in terms of robustness and efficiency. These limitations include slow algorithm efficiency, weak robustness, and collisions when robots are traversing. In this paper, we propose an improved A*-based algorithm called EBHSA* algorithm. The EBHSA* algorithm introduces the expansion distance, bidirectional search, heuristic function optimization and smoothing into path planning. The expansion distance extends a certain distance from obstacles to improve path robustness by avoiding collisions. Bidirectional search is a strategy that searches for a path from the start node and from the goal node at the same time. Heuristic function optimization designs a new heuristic function to replace the traditional heuristic function. Smoothing improves path robustness by reducing the number of right-angle turns. Moreover, we carry out simulation tests with the EBHSA* algorithm, and the test results show that the EBHSA* algorithm has excellent performance in terms of robustness and efficiency. In addition, we transplant the EBHSA* algorithm to a robot to verify its effectiveness in the real world.

Abstract:Path planning plays an essential role in mobile robot navigation, and the A* algorithm is one of the best-known path planning algorithms. However, the traditional A* algorithm has some limitations, such as slow planning speed, close to obstacles. In this paper, we propose an improved A*-based algorithm, called the EBS-A* algorithm, that introduces expansion distance, bidirectional search, and smoothing into path planning. The expansion distance means keeping an extra space from obstacles to improve path reliability by avoiding collisions. Bidirectional search is a strategy searching path from the start node and the goal node simultaneously. Smoothing improves path robustness by reducing the number of right-angle turns. In addition, simulation tests for the EBS-A* algorithm are performed, and the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is verified by transferring it to a robot operating system (ROS). The experimental results show that compared with the traditional A* algorithm, the proposed algorithm improves the path planning efficiency by 278% and reduces the number of critical nodes by 91.89% and the number of right-angle turns by 100%.

Abstract:This article presents a novel path planning algorithm for autonomous land vehicles. There are four main contributions: Firstly, an evaluation standard is introduced to measure the performance of different algorithms and to select appropriate parameters for the proposed algorithm. Secondly, a guideline generated by human or global planning is employed to develop the heuristic function to overcome the shortcoming of traditional A-Star algorithms. Thirdly, for improving the obstacle avoidance performance, key points around the obstacle are employed, which would guide the planning path to avoid the obstacle much earlier than the traditional one. Fourth, a novel variable-step based A-Star algorithm is also introduced to reduce the computing time of the proposed algorithm. Compared with the state-of-the-art techniques, experimental results show that the performance of the proposed algorithm is robust and stable.

Abstract:At times, drivers need to pass a designated area on the way to a destination. This paper established the area-through path planning model of the road network, ensuring path planning results pass the designated area. The area-through path planning is realized in two steps: First step is the virtual destination path planning where we set a virtual destination first, and then the A* algorithm is used to guide the path through the designated area. The second step is the direction-changing path planning that leads the path planning from the designated area to the destination through changing path planning heuristic costs. The experimental results confirmed that in urban areas where the algorithm helped users to pass the high-grade roads in the designated areas. This suggest the real-time path planning can meet the demand of embedded navigation equipment.

Abstract:This paper focuses on AGV scheduling and path planning of automatic transport system. Using the topological modeling method to build an electronic map; based on A* (A-Star) algorithm and complex scheduling strategies to solve single AGV path planning, this paper presents a one-way graph path based planning algorithm which solves the problem of multi-AGV path planning, avoids system conflicts and enhances system stability. And the algorithm is verified by the AGV automatic transport management system, which is based on VC++6.0 and SQL Server.
