Automatic Building of Bill of Materials and its Data Consistency Study Based on the Framework of the PDM

Abstract:In PDM system, different departments of the company shared the product information through Bill of materials. Thus it is important to maintain consistency of the Bill of materials information through the lifecycle of the products. Bill of materials information derived from lists of the electronic document draw by the AutoCAD tools. To maintain consistency of the Bill of materials is to hold consistency between the lists of the electronic document draw by CAD and Bill of materials. This paper expounds the algorithm of automatic building of the Bill of materials and the product structure tree under the framework of the PDM,and advances a method to maintain information consistency of the three tables (the list table, the title bar table and the bill of materials table) when the information of the Bill of materials changes.This method assures the consistency of the Bill of materials and implements the communion of the product data information.
