Abstract:Markets are one of the most fundamental institutions in human societies.In principle,from the times of Adam Smith economic research has been developed around the subject of markets.However,to date,economists have failed to offer a theory of the market itself.Following the Coasian paradigm,this paper explored the basic question of "why do markets exist" and identified both the boundary and substitution conditions of the existence of the market.Based on the existence theory of the market,we further examined how ubiquitous multilateral transaction costs shape the macro-framework and micro-structure of the market network and how these transaction costs determine the nature and function of firms within market network as well as how transaction costs and market network affect economic growth.This paper concludes that today's economics should study the market not only as an invisible hand but also as a tangible network.

Abstract:Interpretations of the wonder and European predicament after the economic transformation have become one of the major themes of the international transformational economic community. Conceptually, scholars seem to believe that pre-reform China and Central East Europe lived under planned economy, the only difference between the two being the different modes of reform over planned economy. As a matter of fact, great differences existed between China and Central East Europe in their economic structures before the reforms. The Chinese had more elements of order economy , while the Central East European had more elements of rational planned economy with obviously better achievements than the former. However, the latter had to pay a greater cost on the way to market economy.

Abstract:It is a particular phenomenon that the philosophy and methodology of western mainstream economics and traditional political economics construct a "Binary Structure" in China’s economics theory research and education.The former abstracts economic behavior and economic phenomena out of social structure,while the latter tends to study market economy from the perspective of efficiency and economic growth,both of which are divorced from the actual politics and economy of China,and also lack of criticism and in-depth analysis of social and economic realities.It could be a new breakthrough point that we take market economy as the starting point of Chinese political economics and work on how to achieve normative balance between politics and economy in the background of reform.

Abstract:The modernization transformation of Chinese economic thought was not a passive reception and reflection of foreign trends, but a spontaneous evolution of traditional thought. As a representative work of statecraft scholars in the Jiaqing and Daoguang period, Huang-Chao Jing-Shi Wen-Bian focused on the transformation of Chinese traditional economic thought before the arrival of Western culture and reflected the trends of innovation from conservation, moderate freedom from intervene, localization and limited openness from centralization, limited openness from closeness, as well as the transformative characteristics of pragmatism, inclusiveness, retrospection and non-completeness. In studying the modernization transformation of Chinese traditional economic thought, more attention should be paid to its endogenous path of evolution, and subject and subject consciousness of traditional scholars.

Abstract:Hong focuses on how the state, in conjunction with market forces and class interests, is constructing and realigning its digitalized sector. State planners intend to build a more competitive ICT sector by modernizing the network infrastructure, corporatizing media-and-entertainment institutions, and by using ICT as a crosscutting catalyst for innovation, industrial modernization, and export upgrades. The goal: to end China’s industrial and technological dependence upon foreign corporations while transforming itself into a global ICT leader. The project, though bright with possibilities, unleashes implications rife with contradiction and surprise. Hong analyzes the central role of information, communications, and culture in Chinese style capitalism. She also argues that the state and elites have failed to challenge entrenched interests or redistribute power and resources, as promised. Instead, they prioritize information, communications, and culture as technological fixes to make pragmatic tradeoffs between economic growth and social justice.

Abstract:Although different western ecological Marxists based their theories on the ecological dimension,their academic routes are actually different with each other.This paper wants to prove this viewpoint with the example of Alain Lipietz,James O'Connor and John Foster.John Foster did put his theoretical horizon into the area of productive process,but he finally only found the way out of ecological crisis from the angle of morality.James O'Connor figured out the theoretical route of inner contradiction of productive process from the angle which is different from Karl Marx,so that he only found the way out of ecological crisis from the horizon of politics.Alain Lipietz did construct his theory of social transformation on the horizon of productive process,but he overburdened his theory on the historical effect of regulation mode which makes his theory too much utopian characteristics.

Abstract:The spirit of Confucian ethics is virtually the ethical footnote of the feudal political system and natural economy in old China. Stressing justice instead of benefit, stressing peace instead of struggle, stressing virtues instead of laws, stressing collectivity instead of selfishness and a hierarchy of social stratums, all of these are virtually by- products of natural economy and the integrity of family- state. These have their limitations. Only through a creative transformation of the Confucian ethics and infilteration of the time- spirit could it meet the need of the socialist market economy in contemperary China. The creative transformation involves the combination of justice and benefit, stressing competition, collectrivity and selfishness, and equality and freedom.

Abstract:Based on case studies and logical analysis,this article provides observations on a feature in the strategic behaviors of the Chinese local governments since the 1980.It argues that when the local governments make decisions on the development strategy,they strive to seize the initiative to develop the local economy.A representation of this feature is the strategic conversion in the development pattern taken by the local governments during the year 1992 and 2000,which were their responses to the market reformation policy of the central government.Instead of running enterprises,the local governments turned their attention to the overall administrative areas which they started to operate as an enterprise.Correspondingly,their means of controlling the local economy turned from "seizing the property rights of companies" to "seizing the rights of exploitable land".

Abstract:In the third volume of Capital,Marx proposed two major forms of the transition to new production modes,AG and partner factories,which are the conclusion of the thinking from economic perspective.In fact,Marxist transition theory has rich contents.From the general perspective of political economics,the transition theory constitutes an important part.Transition does not occur sequentially in strict accordance with the social ideology.There might be transition"by leaps and bounds".During the period of transition to socialism,private ownership will inevitably exist within a certain range.Re-consideration of the transition theory from the general perspective of political economics has importance and guidance for China's current stage of socialist orientation.

Abstract:PurposeSome economic theories have influenced the reform of the socialist open economy with Chinese characteristics. As a new practice of socialism, an open economy is not only driven by China’s productivity level and people’s living standards but also regulated by the law of commodity production and value.Design/methodology/approachIt was popular to participate in economic globalization for most countries in the second half of the 20th century, but not all of them could benefit from it.FindingsThe key to the success of the open-economy reform with Chinese characteristics lies in learning from and innovating the comparative advantage theory, thus forming an organic whole of the open economy, including the core of correctly handling the relationship between the government and the market, the method of gradual reform, the breakthrough point of transforming the mode of economic development, and serving people all the time.Originality/valueAchieving internal and external coordination through the combination of opening-up and independence is a critical principle of China’s economic opening-up, which not only effectively safeguards national interests but also actively promotes the construction of a new global order.

Abstract:Since the transition of relations between market participants from exchange to trade, the need to determine the value of goods has arisen. The study presents a critical assessment of the current developed theories of value. The methodological basis of the study is the scientific works of the classics of economic theory, on the basis of which conclusions are drawn regarding the chronological change of value and labour. For the purposes of the study, the following methods were used: analysis and synthesis, logical abstraction, theoretical knowledge, systematization, abstract-logical and others. It was noted that the central factor in the formation of value is a person, and the main thing is his creative idea. It is explained that modern consumption is concentrated around the need for money. In this way, the classical understanding of need as a condition of human activity in the need for money is being replaced. Such a change is enhanced by information and digital approaches and involves the introduction of full control over the use of money at the level of an individual member of society. In the pedagogical practice of teaching economic fundamental disciplines, it is necessary to make a reorientation to a broad understanding of money as an equivalent of exchange and to present a detailed and elaborate concept of Gesellian money. In the future, this will make it possible to strengthen control over the system of state regulation through public institutions.

Abstract:This article examines the theories of institutional transformation from redistribution to markets in China from a new perspective of social integration. It argues that the transition is a process simultaneously involves the privatization of property rights, the shift of elite power, and the reorganization of interest groups. The study of China' s market transition thereby should focus on three questions: who dominants the property right? who controls the management? And who gets relatively more interests? The answers to these questions point to the shift of the underlying mechanism of integration, namely the integration of property right relationship, the integration of power and the integration of interests, among which the social relationship integration is pervasive, and crucial to understand the maintaining of social order in the course of China's transition to a market economy.

Abstract:This paper introduced the conception of property and the mechanism of rent to construct a microeconomic basis for China's growth in transition economy.The authors discovered that the hidden property rights commonly existed underneath the system of political concentration and lawlessness,and involved themselves with firms in order to realize their values and change the virtues of firms.Afterwards the paper exposed the inner logical relations between political concentration and economic performances by studying individual firms,and presented a uniform theoretical frame to understand three abnormal characteristics in China's growth.

Abstract:The transformation of industrial structure is a key task for realizing high-quality economic development. Different from western economics, which locates the industrial structure and its transformation in the ratio of the three industries of the national economy and their changes, this paper logically analyzes the theoretical content of Marxist political economy, takes into account the "qualities" of the organic composition of capital of the industry, and summarizes the transformation of the industrial structure as the process of optimizing the ratio between the two categories of social reproduction and their intersectoral relations to realize the upgrading of the industry in the contradictory movement of the productive forces and the relations of production. The transformation of industrial structure is summarized as the process of industrial upgrading, in which scientific and technological innovation promotes the adjustment of the organic composition of capital, optimizes the proportion between the two major categories of social reproduction and their respective sectors. This process has different manifestations at micro, meso and macro levels, and is constrained by the objectives of total social reproduction balance, structural balance and productive labor-based. Accordingly, the article proposes that we should base ourselves on the level of development of productive forces, strengthen the real economy, adjust the relations of production, improve the form of ownership, strengthen macroeconomic regulation and control, and promote scientific and technological innovation in order to realize the transformation of China's industrial structure.

Abstract:If we adopt the view of K.Polanyi's so-called “great transformation", especially M. Burawoy's so called “the second great transformation" to look at the market transformation in contemporary communist societies, there formed two different academic routes“neoclassic sociology" and “sociological marxism". The first route focuses on elites while the second route concerns about the historical destiny of working class and underclass in the social transition. In China, due to the inequalities of institutional arrangement on the starting point of transformation, Chinese working class might be reshaped in two different ways in terms of market society. There are two theoretical models of “labor study" in sociological theoretical tradition, namely “Marx model" and “Polanyi model", which provide effective theoretical perspective on how “migrant workers" and “state-owned enterprise workers" form the working class in market society. Assisted by these theoretical lenses, we can reconstruct the research problem of “migrant workers" and bring them into the framework of class formation. Finally, Burawoy's concept of “factory regime" might offer a theoretical and methodological stance to make specific, manufacture process centered ethnographic research on working class formation in the transformation era.
