Abstract:The proportional integral derivative (PID) controllers are widely applied in industrial process, and the tuning method of PID controller parameters is still a hot research area. A fuzzy tuning scheme for PID controller settings is developed for integrator plus time delay processes in this paper, in which a fuzzy rule base reasoning method are utilized on-line to determine a tuning parameter /spl alpha/ based on the error and the first change of the error of the process. Then this tuning parameter /spl alpha/ is used to calculate the PID controller parameters. Computer simulations are performed for an example of integrating plants. Comparing to some reported methods, the performance of the presented approach is shown to be satisfying.

Abstract:This paper presents a new model-free tuning approach for the PID controller tuning with the employment of the refined recursive instrumental variable (RIV) method. The proposed approach can be applied to solve the control loop tuning problem without identification of the plant or process model and it can be implemented in the online manner. Also, the colored measurement noise has been taken into account. For PI and PID control, the implementation details and the step by step procedures are provided respectively. Two simulation examples are provided to validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Abstract:Particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm was used to find the optimum parameters of proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller for integrator plus time delay processes. The positions of each particle in the parameter spaces were set as the parameters of PID controller. The optimization strategy deduced from the simulation of swarm intelligence and dynamic behavior of animal forging was introduced to drive the current parameters of PID controller to the optimal area. Then the optimal PID controller was obtained. During the optimization process, the index with the integral of the squared error (ISE) was adopted. The simulation results for a integrator plus time delay process show that the optimal PID controller based on PSO is superior in set time and overshoot to other several PID controllers based on the conventional tuning methods.

Abstract:For a class of multivariable systems, the tuning of PID controller parameters is discussed in this paper. Based on the idea of GPC and the relation between gGPC and PID controllers, a new tuning algorithm of PID controller parameters for discrete multivariable systems is presented. The optimal index induces the weighting term on the square of error between the predicted process steady-state value and the desired-state value. The PID controller parameters are calculated recursively based on the relationship between the gGPC and PID control laws. The simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:Identification based PID tuning is studied. The proposed approach consists of the identification of linear or non linear process model and model based control design. The identification test can be performed in both open loop and closed-loop. The so-called ASYM method is used to solve the identification problem. The method identifies a low order process model with a quantification of model errors (uncertainty). The PID tuning is based on internal model control (IMC) tuning rules. Two case studies will be performed to demonstrate the methodology. The first one is the adaptive control of the dissolved oxygen of a bioreactor; the second one is the nonlinear PID control of a pH process.

Abstract:This paper applies the simulated annealing algorithm for PID controllers to deal with those motion control systems having constant disturbance. The main goal is to eliminate the steady state error of the system and minimize the integral time absolute error (ITAE) performance index. Three PID controllers, the ordinary PID controller, the increment PID (IPID) controller and the integral separation PID (ISPID) controller are compared. The result shows different controllers fulfill different control requirements.

Abstract:There exists the disadvantages such as prematurity in particle swarm optimization because of the decrease of swarm diversity.In order to solve this problem,a new and improved version of particle swarm optimization algorithm is proposed combining the global best and local best model,termed GLBest-PSO algorithm.This algorithm incorporates global-local best inertia weight with global-local best acceleration coefficient.The velocity equation of the GLBest-PSO algorithm is simplified and the performance of the algorithm is improved.The ability of the GLBest-PSO algorithm is tested with a set of bench mark problems and the results of the simulation show the validity and better optimization performance.The algorithm is proposed to design the parameter optimization of PID controller.The simulation results show that the optimal PID controller based on the proposed method has a satisfying performance and is superior to the conventional PID controller based on the conventional tuning methods.

Abstract:A PID controller design procedure is developed in this paper for the control of processes with integrator and time delay. First, an optimal performance index is defined based on robust control theory. Second, two methods are proposed in the light of the characteristics of the system loop transfer function. A type 2 filter is introduced to meet the requirement of trajectory asymptoticall tracking. And a PID controller is obtained analytically. The feature of the controller is that the nominal performance can be evaluated quantitatively and the robustness can be adjusted conveniently.

Abstract:Because there exist uncertainties in practice, a real process often presents multi-model dynamic characteristics. Therefore, it is not easy to reach satisfaction performance by using a conventional PID controller. In this paper, the PID control method with neuron tuning parameters is proposed for multi-model plants. In this model-free control system, the PID controller is designed to control a multi-model plant and the adaptive neuron is used to regulate the parameters of the PID controller on line. By self-learning and associative searching, the adaptive neuron can modify the PID controller parameters according to the dynamic characteristics of the plant Applying the proposed method to the basis weight control of a paper machine, the simulation experiments are made. The results illustrate that the model-free PID controller is available to multi-model plants.

Abstract:The traditional BP network is the most typical and widely used artificial neural network, which easily falls into local minimum with the slow convergence speed, and other shortcomings, seriously affecting its performance and application. In this paper, considering the error signal features in PID(Proportional Integral Derivative) parameters tuning, the variable DNN (Dynamic Neural Network) structure is introduced to optimize the traditional BP network as a new strategy, especially for some time-delay systems. The simulation experiments are realized by simulation module in MATLAB. The result shows that the performance based on the designed BP-DNN neural network is better than that of traditional BPNN (Backpropagation Neural Network), with the faster convergence speed and fewer oscillations. Further experiments suggest that the parameter tuning algorithm for PID parameters based on the variable network structure is also better, presenting characteristics-faster response, higher steady-state accuracy, stronger robustness, etc.

Straightforward analytical formulas are given for the PID controller parameters. They have the advantage to take into account both robustness aspects and desired closed loop characteristics. The design method can be easily combined with existing process identification techniques to implement an auto-tuning PID controller. Simulation studies are given to compare this design method to the Ziegler-Nichols method. The results show that the new method provides much faster and smoother responses, which generally are more desirable in the process control setting.

Abstract:According to the idea of the system identification, 2-DOF PID based on the desired dynamic equation (DDE-PID) has been improved. The DDE-based PID is applied to the integrating system. This method only needs the step response information of the plant, which is easy to be obtained. According to the physical meaning of parameters, the tuning is also convenient to meet the requirement of the dynamic performance. The simulations show that the method has the low overshoot and the short setting time on the integrating system.

Abstract:First-order time-delay models do not accurately describe industrial processes, so traditional PID controllers cannot provide satisfactory control. An optimized PID controller was developed using an accurate high-order system. A group of such PID controllers for stabilizing closed systems were designed using the generalized Hermite-Biehler theorem. The genetic algorithm was used to tune a PID controller with the optimal integrated time absolute error (ITAE) criterion from this group of PID controllers. The robust stability and performance of the PID controllers were evaluated using the generalized Kharitonov theorem and Monte-Carlo stochastic methods. The results show that the proposed method can effectively control this class of higher-order systems and is robust against modeling uncertainties. The simulation results substantiated the effectiveness of the proposed method for the control of higher-order systems.

Abstract:Aiming at single input single output system with closed loop feedback control,a novel parameter tuning method of PID controller was proposed. The target equations satisfied with the requirements of control system stability were derived by root locus meth-od using the characteristic equation. Then the parameter calculation formula of PID controller was deduced on the basis of the Lya-punov stability criterion. The analysis and comparison of performance simulation on representative industrial processes were given in detail,such as first-order plus dead-time process and electromechanical control model of DC motor. Simulation results show that pro-posed tuning method is simple and useful,easy to realize,has good tracking performance and robust stability to disturbance. It is ap-propriate not only for processes with time delay,but also for without time delayed models with significant advantages for wide applica-tion prospect. But it should be accomplished with computer technology because of large amount of calculation.

Abstract:A simple parameter tuning method was developed based on the design of the desired dynamic equation for two degree-of-freedom (2-DOF) PID controllers. The 2-DOF PID controller can be simplified to the function of the desired dynamic equation and the system disturbance observer. The desired dynamic equation coefficients and the disturbance observer parameters were chosen as the controller parameters to analyze the relationship between the system performance and the controller parameters and then to present a parameter tuning rule. Simulations show that satisfactory performances can be obtained using the developed tuning method in integrating processes, non-minimum-phase processes, time delay processes, high-order processes, and unstable processes.

Abstract:This paper studies parameter optimization for a proportionalintegraldifferential (PID) control system of thermal processes whose parameters vary over a region. A MonteCarlo simulation was developed using the characteristics of thermal processes to compare the performance and robustness of various PID control systems for timedependent processes. The PID control systems were tuned using wellknown PID tuning methods, such as ZieglerNichols, ChienHronesReswick, CohenCoon, IMC, Opt, Pole Assignment, and Gain Phase Margin, for several classical thermal models. The simulation results for a boiler superheated steam temperature control system substantiate the validity of this method. 

Abstract:This paper introduces the principle and realization of the PID controller parameter auto tuning of the power plant control simulation system. On the basis of researching various auto tuning methods, the fuzzy tuning rule method based on pattern recognition is proposed, which can be used in the power plant simulator. Using the object oriented programming (OOP) method, a single loop and cascade loop PID controller parameter of the simulator auto tuning software package is developed on the HP workstation. With the integration simulation support environment (ISSE), the controller parameter auto tuning is realized, which significantly reduces the modelling time. The performance of the software package is verified by applied to the 600MW simulator in Shenyang.
