Comparison of dysfunctional attitudes among patients with schizophrenia,bipolar disorder and depression

Abstract:Objective To explore and compare the dysfunctional attitudes among the remitted schizophrenia ,bipolar disorder and depression .Methods To evaluate 60 schizophrenia ,52 bipolar disor‐der and 55 depression individuals in remitted period with Dysfunctional Attitudes Scales(DAS) and then compared the results with 60 age ,gender -matched normal controls .Results (1) In addition to ,DAS total scores and all factors except cognitive philosophy were statistically difference among the four groups (P < 0 .05) .(2)DAS total score scores of sub-factors in the depression group ,e .g .vulnerability ,ab‐sorption/exclusive ,perfection ,compulsion ,need for approval ,dependence and autonomy [(148 .7 ± 23.0),(18.8±3.4),(17.6±5.0),(18.7±4.1),(18.1±4.1),(19.1±5.0),(20.1±3.7),(20.9± 4.0)] ,DAS total score and scores of sub-factors in the bipolar disorder group ,e .g .absorption/exclu‐sive ,perfection and need for approval [(138 .3 ± 20 .5) ,(15 .7 ± 4 .8) ,(17 .2 ± 3 .4) ,(19 .0 ± 4 .0)] and DAS total score and scores of sub-factors in the schizophrenia group ,e .g .absorption/exclusive [(132 .8 ± 23 .3) ,(14 .5 ± 4 .8)]were statistically higher than that of normal control [(124 .5 ± 17 .3) ,P <0 .05] . (3)The DAS total score and scores of sub -factors e .g .vulnerability ,absorption/exclusive ,depend‐ence were statistically higher in depression group than the bipolar disorder group (P<0 .05) .There was no significant different in in DAS total score between bipolar disorder and schizophrenia groups .The score of need for approval was higher in bipolar disorder group than the schizophrenia group (P<0 .05) . Conclusions Some patients of depression ,bipolar disorder and schizophrenia may have cognitive dys‐functional attitude .Depressive patients are more obvious in dysfunctional attitude than bipolar disorder and schizophrenia .There is no significant difference between the bipolar disorder and schizophrenia .
