Abstract:The information preservation method was applied for 2D low speed flow. The flows in finite long flat plate and micro channel were simulated by the information preservation method. The study indicates that the better results and greater computer efficiency are achieved in simulating low speed flow.

Abstract:AbstrcatThe information preservation method (IP) is applied to calculate the low-speed flow in a tube. The results are compared with that of the experiment and the datum tallies well. The results of IP method is better than NS equations'. The study indicates that IP method is an effective method to simulate the low-speed flow in a tube. Furthermore, better results and higher computer efficiency can be achieved.

Abstract:A new method based on 2-D mathematical model was proposed to simulate complex 3-D flow field downstream of a spillway. The flow characteristics and hydraulic factor's generalization of free-surface flow were studied by analyzing water movement and diffusion pattern, and the bed scouring of the complex flow field downstream of discharge structure. Due to little mass exchange between the mainstream of free-surface flow and bottom circumfluence, it was reasonable to conclude that the flow in the bottom circumfluence has no influence on discharge so that the water interface between the mainstream of free-surface flow and bottom circumfluence area can be treated as the boundary condition in 2-D numerical simulation of flow field downstream of a spillway. This method was applied to a practical case, where the obtained results accorded well with the actual flow field.

Abstract:In this article, an entirely parallel pipeline for creating realistic visualization of particle‐based fluid is presented, which significantly improves surface reconstruction and foam generation performance. Firstly, we develop a spatial hashing grid‐based strategy. Based on this strategy, a novel narrow band surface reconstruction method is presented, which could even discard the detection of surface particles methods to achieve the effect of accurate identification of surface vertices. And a novel narrow band like diffuse particle classification method is proposed, which ensures less memory access and less computation. Furthermore, in order to obtain a best performance, we put forward several parallel schemes to avoid potential race conditions and invalid threads. Experiments are conducted to verify that our developed method and code efficiently improve the particle‐based visualization.

Engineering Applications of Computational Fluid Mechanics

Abstract:A parallel direct-forcing (DF) fictitious domain (FD) method for the simulation of particulate flows is reported in this paper. The parallel computing strategies for the solution of flow fields and particularly the distributed Lagrange multiplier are presented, and the high efficiency of the parallel code is demonstrated. The new code is then applied to study the effects of particle density (or particle inertia) on the turbulent channel flow. The results show that the large-scale vortices are weakened more severely, and the flow friction drag increases first and then reduces, as particle inertia is increased.

Abstract:The different structures of immersion unit should affect the flow state of gap flow field.In order to study the influences on the flow state,the computational fluid dynamics(CFD) simulations with different structures of the immersion unit were established.The analysis of different injection shapes and the height of the gap flow was carried out.The research results show that the injection angle with 90°～150° and the gap height with 0.7 mm～1 mm are the optimize structural parameters.

Abstract:The material point method (MPM) and the smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) are two commonly used particle-based methods for solving large-deformation problems. Especially, the SPH has been widely applied to fluid dynamics problems, while the MPM performance in fluid dynamics simulations has rarely been investigated. In this study, the capabilities of the MPM and the SPH in simulating fluid dynamics problems have been quantitatively examined and compared through three example problems, i.e., Poiseuille and Couette flows and water dam break flows. Both numerical methods could yield the results in good agreements with the theoretical and experimental results. Without requiring neighbour search and additional boundary particles, the MPM exhibits significantly higher computational efficiency as compared with the SPH. The comparisons also demonstrate that the MPM has higher accuracy and faster convergence than the SPH. It is shown that the MPM could be a promising alternative to the SPH for the fluid dynamics simulations. Future work for the improvement of the MPM in fluid dynamics modelling is discussed.
Study On Characteristics Of Interface Between Multiple Laminar Streams And Application For Secondary Etching Inside Microchannels

Abstract:Typical microfluide devices basically operate at low Reynolds numbers. The flowage in microchannels is entirely laminar. This letter quantifies both experimentally and numerically the diffusion across the interface between two aqueous solutions in pressure-driven laminar flow in microchannels. The relationship between the flow parameters at the inlets and the interface's location and diffusion extent is verified at high Peclet number (about 800 similar to 8000). The experimental results accord with the CM results very well. A quantitative conclusion of the interface location and the diffusion extent between two streams near the walls, such as described in this letter, are required for the further development of the technology of microfabrication inside microchannels using fluid flow. The features of the micro structures, which are patterned with this fabrication method, are determined by interface location and the diffusion across the interface in a great degree. In the last part of this letter we give some the experiment results about the relationship of the flow parameters and the topography of the secondary patterned micro structures.

Abstract:Both the theoretical and experimental analyses on several typical micro channels of the micro fluidic systems are presented. The flow patterns of the rigging angle bend channel, the sudden expansive channel and the elbow channel on the pressure driven mode are numerically analyzed by using CFD simulation technology. The simulation method for the electro-osmosis is described and the electroosmosis flow inside the cross channel is simulated. Four kinds of micro channel models are micromachined with glass material and experimentally detected by using Micro-PIV technology. A good agreement is obtained by comparing the simulation results with the experimental results. From the results, The Micro-PIV technology is indicated to be the most efficient experimental method for micro flow detection. Furthermore, N-S equation is experimentally proved to be correct in the micron flow numerical simulation.
Rarefied Couette Flows Performance in Micro Fluid Machinery Based on Improved DSMC Method

Abstract:Due to the rapid development of MEMS technology in the past decades, the micro fluid machinery such as micro pumps and micro compressors have attracted more and more attentions. Understanding of the flow behaviors in such micro devices is crucial for a better design of these micro devices. In the present paper, the improved DSMC based on the information preservation (IP) method is presented and applied for the study of micro flow performance. The rarefied Couette flows are simulated and compared in different conditions by DSMC and that on IP method respectively. The results show that the improved DSMC on IP method can reduce the statistical scatter in low speed Micro-fluidic flow effectively.
Research on the Simulation of Orientation of Cylindrical Particles in the Liquid-solid Two-phase Channel Flows

Abstract:The motion of cylindrical particles in the channel flow was simulated numerically, then the orientations of particles were calculated statistically, the effects of aspect ratio, density of particle and flow domains on the orientation of particle were analyzed. The results indicated that the effect of aspect ratio on the orientation is insignificant, and the density of particle has some influence on the orientation. The larger the lateral velocity gradient of fluid is, the more obvious the particles orient. When the lateral velocity gradient of fluid reaches a certain value, the particles follow the flow direction. Some of computed results were also compared with the related experiments, and they are consistent qualitatively.

Abstract:The lithography immersion flow field is highly sensitive to minor variations due to the precision demands of lithography. The scanning flow induces pressure fluctuations on the lens surface, subsequently impacting the quality of exposure. Previous measurement methods have encountered sparse distribution measurements on the lens surface due to limitations in sensor size and flow field dimensions. In this manuscript, the authors propose a modal fusion flow field reconstruction method, effectively integrating sensor-based experimental methods and equation-based computational methods. This method achieves high-resolution measurements of stress distribution and velocity distribution. Initially, a simulation of the flow field under operational conditions is conducted to acquire a dataset, followed by decomposing the dataset into modes to establish a modal library. Throughout the measurement process, the modal library is dynamically restructured based on sensor signal using a sparse representation method to forecast the flow field, and subsequently, the flow field is corrected in accordance with the Navier-Stokes equation.

Abstract:The main purpose of this study is to simulate the fluidization mechanism of solid particles in a twodimensional duct with the distributed Lagrange multipliers/fictitious domain method. The general characteristics of liquid and particles＇ distribution and movement were obtained, including the velocity, pressure and vorticity, as well as the curve of the related pressure and velocity. It is also observed that the particles tend to gather to clusters, partly due to the low flow velocity in the wake induced by upper stream particles. The method was found to work well for simulating the dense fluidized multiphase flow.

Abstract:In scientific visualization, most results could not be displayed until the calculation of numerical simulation was completed. Therefore, some shortcomings were showed such as the display was hysteretic, the storage for result data was huge, and there was no alternation in simulation system. In this paper, the particle system was used to simulate flow field. By analyzing the storage structure of particle and the course of particle life, the quality of real-time display and reality were apparently improved. Moreover, the real-time data transport and in-phase for display and calculation were achieved by adjusting the time interval of display and data interposition. Based on the above methods, a real-time flow filed simulation system was realized.

Abstract:The design principles of water-tunnel were introduced,and two models with square test sections were proposed deriving from a minitype high-speed water-tunnel.The software Fluent was used to analyze the performance of contractions and test sections of the water-tunnels.It is found that,in the square test section,the area where velocity unevenness is below 1% shrunk to 0.6 of that in the circular one.The turbulence intensity decreases when there is a transitional section between the contraction and the test section.

Abstract:This research paper focuses on the development of a novel interface-capturing solver for predicting two-phase flow in 2D/3D Cartesian meshes within the framework of Eulerian approaches. The primary objective is to ensure mass conservation and accurate capture of interface topology. To achieve this, a mass-preserving level set advection equation formulated as a scalar sign-distance function is proposed. The key innovation of the Eulerian solver lies in the incorporation of a scalar speed function for robust reconstruction of the classical level set equation. The effectiveness and reliability of the proposed flow solver in solving incompressible two-phase viscous flow equations are demonstrated through several benchmark problems.

Abstract:Gaseous fluids may move slowly, as smoke does, or at high speed, such as occurs with explosions. High-speed gas flow is always accompanied by low-speed gas flow, which produces rich visual details in the fluid motion. Realistic visualization involves a complex dynamic flow field with both low and high speed fluid behavior. In computer graphics, algorithms to simulate gaseous,fluids address either the low speed case or the high speed case, but no algorithm handles both efficiently. With the aim of providing visually pleasing results, we present a hybrid algorithm that efficiently! captures the essential physics of both low- and high-speed gaseous fluids. We model the low speed gaseous fluids by a grid approach and use a particle approach for the high speed gaseous fluids. In addition, we propose a physically sound method to connect the particle model to the grid model. By, exploiting complementary strengths and avoiding weaknesses of the grid and particle approaches, we produce some animation examples and analyze their computational performance to demonstrate the effectiveness of the new hybrid method.

Abstract:When computing integral curves and integral surfaces for large-scale unsteady flow fields. a major bottleneck is the widening gap between data access demands and the available bandwidth (both I/O and in-memory). In this work, we explore a novel advection-based scheme to manage flow field data for both efficiency and scalability. The key is to first partition flow field into blocklets (e.g. cells or very fine-grained blocks of cells), and then (pre)fetch and manage blocklets on-demand using a parallel key-value store. The benefits are (1) greatly increasing the scale of local-range analysis (e.g. source-destination queries, streak surface generation) that can fit within any given limit of hardware resources; (2) improving memory and I/O bandwidth-efficiencies as well as the scalability of naive task-parallel particle advection. We demonstrate our method using a prototype system that works on workstation and also in supercomputing environments. Results show significantly reduced I/O overhead compared to accessing raw flow data. and also high scalability on a supercomputer for a variety of applications.

Abstract:A numerical test on the accuracy of the particle image velocimetry is conducted.It is assumed that the information of the particle image photographed by double-exposure with a light sheet is processed by correlation method.In order to study the effect of non-uniformity of fluid motion on determination of the velocity vector at an interrogation spot,five typical non-uniform factors are discussed.A statistical method is used to get quantitative estimation.The results suggest that the accuracy of this PIV method is significantly affected by some factors of non-uniform flow.

Abstract:Within the context of Eulerian approaches, we aim to develop a new interface-capturing solver to predict two-phase flow in 2D/3D Cartesian meshes.
