Abstract:Current surface reconstruction algorithms focus on complex surfaces or irregular surfaces. However, surfaces of revolution are very important in industrial applications and reconstruction of rotating surfaces is often required. The most important step in surface reconstruction of revolution is to determine its axis. In this paper, iteration method is utilized to compute the central axis, which solves the problem of the shape identification of slice data. According to the defection difference of slice data, which will result in different shape, relative identification algorithms of circle and circular arc are proposed to recover the profiles. Different types of data are tested in our prototype system for reverse engineering. Experimental results show that the algorithm is practical and efficient.

Abstract:For reconstructing a freeform feature from point cloud, a deformation-based method is proposed in this paper. The freeform feature consists of a secondary surface and a blending surface. The secondary surface plays a role in substituting a local region of a given primary surface. The blending surface acts as a bridge to smoothly connect the unchanged region of the primary surface with the secondary surface. The secondary surface is generated by surface deformation subjected to line constraints, i.e., character lines and limiting lines, not designed by conventional methods. The lines are used to represent the underlying information of the freeform feature in point cloud, where the character lines depict the feature’s shape, and the limiting lines determine its location and orientation. The configuration of the character lines and the extraction of the limiting lines are discussed in detail. The blending surface is designed by the traditional modeling method, whose intrinsic parameters are recovered from point cloud through a series of steps, namely, point cloud slicing, circle fitting and regression analysis. The proposed method is used not only to effectively and efficiently reconstruct the freeform feature, but also to modify it by manipulating the line constraints. Typical examples are given to verify our method.

Abstract:One of the key research issues in Reverse Engineering is the geometric modeling of complex surface.Its important step was boundary extraction of part surface from points cloud.A method of warp and weft scanning was proposed to automatically extract the boundary of single value surface.The direct triangulation algorithm based on the local incremental mesh generation was presented to extract the boundary of arbitrary non-occlusion surface.The examples prove that the methods can satisfy the engineering need of model reconstruction.

Abstract:The NURBS surface reconstruction from point cloud data is a key technology of reverse engineering. A method of surface reconstruct from point data was presented. With non-uniform data points, a reverse algorithm for non-uniform B-spline control point and a method of accumulating chord length were put forward to create non-uniform knots vector and guarantee the precision of the surface and quality of the surface reconstruction.

Abstract:In surface reconstruction, the actual surface model generally contains several surface geometrical features. Namely it consists of multi-surface patches. If directly fitting surface with these point cloud data obtained from a laser scanner, the surface model presentation and the surface fitting are hard to do. Even it is difficult to use a simple formula to describe the surface model. In this paper, a method for region segmentation algorithm according to the curvature variation of data points is proposed. The operational principle is to calculate the curvature values to data points on each scanning line. The points with bigger curvature variation are picked up as boundary points. After borderline are determined, point cloud data are divided into several regions. Each region has simple geometrical features, and can be described in simple mathematical model, and then a single surface is reconstructal. This algorithm is simple, and can be easily understood and programmed. Efficiency of surface model reconstruction is enhanced.

Abstract:Surface reconstruction is an important task in the field of 3d-GIS, computer aided design and computer graphics (CAD & CG), virtual simulation and so oil. Based on available incremental surface reconstruction methods, a feature-constrained Surface reconstruction approach for point cloud is presented. Firstly features are extracted front Point Cloud under the rules Of curvature extremes and minimum spanning tree. By projecting local sample points to the fitted tangent planes and using extracted features to guide and constrain the process of local triangulation and Surface propagation, topological relationship among sample points call be achieved. For the constructed models, it process named consistent normal adjustment and regularization is adopted to adjust normal of cacti face so that the correct surface model is achieved. Experiments show that the presented approach inherits the convenient implementation and high efficiency of traditional incremental surface reconstruction method, meanwhile, it avoids improper propagation of normal across sharp edges, which means the applicability of incremental surface reconstruction is greatly improved. Above all, appropriate k-neighborhood can help to recognize un-sufficient sampled areas and boundary parts, the presented approach can be used to reconstruct both open and close surfaces without additional interference.

Abstract:In traditional reverse engineering, B-rep is the main model to be constructed usually. However, because of the low level of product information representation, B-rep model is difficult to show the product design intents, and it's also difficult for product redesign. To avoid the shortcoming of B-rep model, a new strategy of feature model reconstruction based on point cloud is presented in this paper. A series of key algorithms, such as estimation of differential geometric properties of scattered points and extruded or rotational surface reconstruction, are also presented, which are crucial to feature modeling. Experiment results show the high efficiency, robustness and accuracy of these algorithms, which lay a good foundation for further calculation of feature model reconstruction. 2013 Binary Information Press.

Abstract:Abstract The area of surface reconstruction has seen substantial progress in the past two decades. The traditional problem addressed by surface reconstruction is to recover the digital representation of a physical shape that has been scanned, where the scanned data contain a wide variety of defects. While much of the earlier work has been focused on reconstructing a piece‐wise smooth representation of the original shape, recent work has taken on more specialized priors to address significantly challenging data imperfections, where the reconstruction can take on different representations—not necessarily the explicit geometry. We survey the field of surface reconstruction, and provide a categorization with respect to priors, data imperfections and reconstruction output. By considering a holistic view of surface reconstruction, we show a detailed characterization of the field, highlight similarities between diverse reconstruction techniques and provide directions for future work in surface reconstruction.

Abstract:Reconstruction of a continuous surface of two-dimensional manifold from its raw, discrete point cloud observation is a long-standing problem in computer vision and graphics research. The problem is technically ill-posed, and becomes more difficult considering that various sensing imperfections would appear in the point clouds obtained by practical depth scanning. In literature, a rich set of methods has been proposed, and reviews of existing methods are also provided. However, existing reviews are short of thorough investigations on a common benchmark. The present paper aims to review and benchmark existing methods in the new era of deep learning surface reconstruction. To this end, we contribute a large-scale benchmarking dataset consisting of both synthetic and real-scanned data; the benchmark includes object- and scene-level surfaces and takes into account various sensing imperfections that are commonly encountered in practical depth scanning. We conduct thorough empirical studies by comparing existing methods on the constructed benchmark, and pay special attention on robustness of existing methods against various scanning imperfections; we also study how different methods generalize in terms of reconstructing complex surface shapes. Our studies help identity the best conditions under which different methods work, and suggest some empirical findings. For example, while deep learning methods are increasingly popular in the research community, our systematic studies suggest that, surprisingly, a few classical methods perform even better in terms of both robustness and generalization; our studies also suggest that the practical challenges of misalignment of point sets from multi-view scanning, missing of surface points, and point outliers remain unsolved by all the existing surface reconstruction methods. We expect that the benchmark and our studies would be valuable both for practitioners and as a guidance for new innovations in future research. Abstract:The research on how to get border line,feature line and section line from point cloud data was done and a new segmentation method based on feature line was put forward.At first,the research on feature recognition,interrelationships was conduced by applying this method.The point cloud data into corresponding segments was subdivided secondly.At last the surface based on range data was constructed and complex surface reconstruction was finished.The method was used on a motorcycle front cover panel reconstruction.It has advantage in point cloud data segmentation,feature line pick-up,complex surface reconstruction and has resolved the problem of complicated surface fitting.

Abstract:In this paper, we proposed a novel surface reconstruction framework from point clouds without normal. The proposed method involves three processes: partition of unit, which divide the point clouds into sub-domains using octree structure, generation of the sub-surface, which fit the sub-surface by implicit function in each sub-domain, the normal alignment, which compute normal of sub-surface and inference the global normal of surface by iteratively propagate algorithm. During the last process, sub-surfaces are blended to form entire surface reconstruction. The method is suitable to reconstruct surface with lack of information. The experimental results demonstrate that the method is effective in surface reconstruction.

Abstract:The reconstruction of dense cloud points is the key technique in reverse engineering and is the bottleneck in the progress of reverse engineering. Based on analyzing the current classic methods deeply, this paper presents a new method to reconstruct NURBS surface according to triangle meshes. This method combines the vividness of Bezier surface reconstruction with the accuracy of NURBS surface reconstruction and makes complicated dense points reconstruction accurately and effectively. In this paper, it devises a reconstruction module FastForm based on the method discussed in paper and builds a reverse engineering system regarding the IGES format as data interface. Finally, the actual effect of this reverse engineering system is verified by an instance.

Abstract:The boundary of point clouds is regarded as not only the important geometry feature to express the reconstructed surface, but also the definition domain to solve the surface. It plays an important role in the quality and precision of the reconstructed surface. In the paper a method for direct extraction of boundary from point clouds of free-form surface is proposed by taking the point clouds of the glass cabin cover of a battle plane as an example. The method sets up dividing sections and calculates the boundary points of every dividing section, and then connects all the boundary points to get the boundary line of the surface. The method has not only high computing efficiency, meets the real time requirement, but can also express the boundary feature of the surface precisely.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to address the surface reconstruction from point cloud in reverser engineering. The data was acquired through a 3D scan device and was processed as point cloud data. The points in cloud were connected to build 3D surface. The points cloud was processed in four steps to get 3D information surface. First, the subtraction scheme was used to get cover boxes ended with the set of convex was found under the convergence rule. Secondly, the points in the box were projected to the directions which were close to the normal direction method. Thirdly the overlap was avoided by using convergence rule and inner subdivision rule. Finally the information model was used to reconstruction. The method was used in landslide monitoring of Three Gorges area for 3D surface reconstruction and monitoring. The reconstruction method obtains high precision and low complexity. It is effective for large scale monitoring.

Abstract:Surface extraction from point clouds has many applications in product design, reverse engineering, industrial manufacturing and more. One of the key challenges is the detection and segmentation of overlapping areas of different surfaces. Existing methods are mainly on local judgment of similarity features, which can lead to either over- or under-segmentation. The proposed method in this paper utilizes DBSCAN for 3D point clouds surface extraction and boundary detection. Prior to extraction, the normal vector at sharp features is estimated based on a voting method. The surface extraction process is comprises two stages. First, the local quadric surface is determined based on the candidate sample points, and the points belonging to the same local surface are clustered. Second, in the merging stage, where the local surfaces are combined into a single smooth surface using three merging conditions. To demonstrate its effectiveness, the proposed approach is accessed on synthetic and real datasets, showing that the method can address the problem of insufficient and excessive segmentation of curved point clouds, and achieve high extraction accuracy.
