Abstract:Because bad ventilation and a large amount of synthetic material used in the construction, the indoor concentration of air contaminants is often higher than that of outdoor. In order to keep indoor air quality comfortable, people require more fresh air; but the more fresh air, the less energy conservation. In air-conditioning engineering, one of the common-use methods to achieve energy conservation is to increase the ratio of return air, in other word, to decrease the ratio of outdoor air. The less outdoor air is needed, the more energy-efficient the air-conditioning system will be. However, reducing the outdoor air ratio unrestrictedly can lead to disastrous effect on indoor air quality. How to minimize the outdoor air ratio while to guarantee indoor air quality at the same time is an intractable problem which the engineers engaged in air-conditioning engineering are facing from time to time. Based on grey system theory and the existing definite physical model of conservation of mass, the non-intrinsic grey model of the effects of outdoor air on indoor air quality is developed in the paper, and subsequently grey parameters in the non-intrinsic grey model are analyzed. Then the changes of indoor carbon dioxide concentrations by the time in different outdoor air ratios are calculated by making use of the model. At the same time, the results are compared with former experimental data. It indicates that the present predictions are in good agreement with the experimental data and so it fully verifies feasibility of applying the non-intrinsic grey model in evaluation of air-conditioning system designs. Uncertain factors and definite physical model are combined, which makes non-intrinsic grey model more adaptive. When the information is deficient, a large range can be defined, or a small range can be defined. So the non-intrinsic grey model and conclusions drawn from the simulation help to reveal the relation between indoor air quality and outdoor air amount, and can be further used in the optimization of air-conditioning systems.
