An Etiology Study on the Outbreak of Acute Respiratory Disease (ARD)

Abstract:Objective Etiology study were conducted on 20 cases with acute respiratory disease (ARD). Methods 20 throat swab samples were collected and the virus isolation was engaged with MDCK, LLC-MK2, Vero, MRC-5 and Hep-2 cells. Bacterial isolation work was conducted at the same time, including legionella and blood plate culture. Results 13 ADV-like cytopathic effect were detected in Hep-2 cultures, and negative staining electron microscopy result typical ADV partials. IFA, PCR also gave out positive result. Conclusions Pathogen of this ARD outbreak in the north of Jiangsu province was adenovirus.
