Abstract:Nanobiotechnology is converged by nanotechnology and biotechnology, and is a major component of nanotechnology. It is also an important research topic in the area of biomedicine. The nanoparticle is the most interested and useful nanomaterial used in the biomedical field, which have many characteristics. This article introduced some new reserach achievements and progress in the biosensor and biodetection field based on the nanoparticle technology, presented the synthesis methods for nanoparticle, the application of nanoparticle in the nanobiosensor and nanobiochip, and some related research work carried out in our lab. Finally, the development of this field in the future was prospected.

Abstract:Zinc oxide nanoparticle ( nano-ZnO) has a size between 1 and 100 nm. Nano-ZnO has some special effects , such as small size effect , surface effect , quantum size effect , which makes it different from the ordinary ZnO , and is widely used in rubber industry , food processing , cosmetics and pharmaceutical fields .It has been reported that nano-ZnO has toxic effects in vitro and in vivo, but the mechanism of toxicity is still unclear.Therefore, it is important to evaluate the safety nano-ZnO by studying its biological toxic effects and related mechanisms . In this paper , we summarize the characterization , ingestion pathway , metabolism, systematic toxicity of nano-ZnO and its mechanisms , which may provide us with new strategy for the toxic research of nano-ZnO.

Abstract:Nanotechnology is a highly promising field, with nanoparticles produced and utilized in a wide range of commercial products. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) has been widely used in clothing, electronics, bio-sensing, the food industry, paints, sunscreens, cosmetics and medical devices, all of which increase human exposure and thus the potential risk related to their short- and long-term toxicity. Many studies indicate that AgNPs are toxic to human health. Interestingly, the majority of these studies focus on the interaction of the nano-silver particle with single cells, indicating that AgNPs have the potential to induce the genes associated with cell cycle progression, DNA damage and mitochondrial associated apoptosis. AgNPs administered through any method were subsequently detected in blood and were found to cause deposition in several organs. There are very few studies in rats and mice involving the in vivo bio-distribution and toxicity, organ accumulation and degradation, and the possible adverse effects and toxicity in vivo are only slowly being recognized. In the present review, we summarize the current data associated with the increased medical usage of nano-silver and its related nano-materials, compare the mechanism of antibiosis and discuss the proper application of nano-silver particles.

Abstract:Abstract Compared with traditional materials, the application of nanomaterials in biomedical fields will bring many excellent performances. This review summarizes some new developments and applications of nanoparticles in recent years from the perspective of biology and medicine, including magnetic resonance imaging, treatment for Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes and plant infection disease, oxygen-releasing scaffolds, engineered water nanostructures (EWNS) based sanitizer, drug loading system and cancer treatment. This article summarized and discussed the synthesis methods, characterization, advantages, and applications based on these aspects. Introducing nanoparticles into biomedical fields can provide useful ideas for applying nanoparticles in biology and pharmacy in the future.

Abstract:Nanoparticles have attracted much attention and already been extensively applied in many areas in the last decade. Due to nano-scaled sizes, nanoparticles exhibit various outstanding properties that differ from those of bulk materials, such as unique performances in fields of chemistry, photology, electricity, magnetism and so on. This review summerizes their classifications based on the different compositions and structures, i. e. organic nanoparticles, inorganic nanoparticles and organic/inorganic hybrid nanoparticles. The review focuses on the synthetic methods of different types of nanoparticles, particularly ones could be applied in biology. In addition, the unique physical and chemical features of the classified nanoparticles, which would be helpful for their biological applications, are clarified respectively. Because of their excellent properties such as large superficial area, high surface energy, environmental sensitivity and biocompatibility, nanoparticles have been widely used in various fields such as photoelectricity, chemistry, biotechnology and so on. We highlight the biological applications of the nanoparticles and introduce some specific examples of stimuli responsive sensors, bio-specific labeling, gene/drug deliveries and so on. At last we propose the prospects of the nanoparticles.

Abstract:With the rapid development of nanotechnology and wide application of nanomaterial in the field of high-tech,the environment safety of nanomaterial,especially its bio-toxicity,has received considerable attention.Base on the brief introduction of some common carbon nanomaterials,this paper analyzed the potential enter pathways,transfer and distribution of carbon nanomaterials in living organisms.The progress of potential bio-toxicities and the underlying mechanisms of carbon nanoparticles were reviewed emphatically in this paper for better acknowledge their potential health and environmental risks.Finally,the future research perspective of carbon nanomaterials in field of bio-toxicity was proposed.

Abstract:Nanotechnology is the technique that is used in manufacturing special function products with the studies of movement regularities and properties for electrons, atoms and molecules within 1-100 nm. It is penetrating into the fields of biology and medicine. Because nanoparticles possess quantum size effect, surface little size effect and grand quantum tunnel effect, they exhibit many characteristics such as great specific surface area, high surface activity, a lot of surface active centers, high catalytic efficiency and strong adsorbing ability. The development of biology and medicine will be speeded up with the progress of nanotechnology and the understanding of nanoparticles.

Abstract:With the advancements in nanotechnology, studies on the synthesis, modification, application, and toxicology evaluation of nanomaterials are gaining increased attention. In particular, the applications of nanomaterials in biological systems are attracting considerable interest because of their unique, tunable, and versatile physicochemical properties. Artificially engineered nanomaterials can be well controlled for appropriate usage, and the tuned physicochemical properties directly influence the interactions between nanomaterials and cells. This review summarizes recently synthesized major nanomaterials that have potential biomedical applications. Focus is given on the interactions, including cellular uptake, intracellular trafficking, and toxic response, while changing the physicochemical properties of versatile materials. The importance of physicochemical properties such as the size, shape, and surface modifications of the nanomaterials in their biological effects is also highlighted in detail. The challenges of recent studies and future prospects are presented as well. This review benefits relatively new researchers in this area and gives them a systematic overview of nano-bio interaction, hopefully for further experimental design.

Abstract:Nanoparticle is a kind of material with at least one dimension in Nanometer scale, which has unique physical and chemical properties and is widely used in the fields of food and engineering. Intestinal Flora is involved in the regulation of human circulation and metabolism. The disturbance of Intestinal Flora may cause inflammatory reaction and chronic metabolic diseases. Nano titanium dioxide, Nano silver, Nano zinc oxide, Nano carbon nanoparticles and other nanoparticles have been proven to have good antibacterial properties, and can affect the intestinal flora of experimental animals. In this paper, the effects and mechanisms of various nanoparticles on intestinal microflora are summarized, which is helpful to provide a new idea for the safety study of nanoparticles.

Abstract:With the rapid developments of nanotechnology, chances of exposing nanoscale particles to humans (e.g., workers and consumers) also increase correspondingly, which raises serious concerns on their biosafety. Entrance of nanoparticles into diverse biological environment endows them with new and dynamic biological identities as the so-called nanoparticle–protein corona. Therefore, understanding the role of these nanoparticle–protein coronas and resulting biological responses is crucial, as it helps to clarify the biological mechanism and prevent the potential adverse effects of nanoparticles. In this review, we summarize the latest developments relating to the nanoparticle–protein interaction and corresponding biological responses, with an emphasis on the characterization methods, induced biological effects and possible molecular mechanisms. In addition, we overview both the challenges and opportunities (particularly in nanomedicine) raised by this entrance of nanoparticles into the living creatures, especially human beings, with some future perspectives based on our understanding.

Abstract:The sustainable development of nanotechnology requires the comprehensive understanding on the safety of nanomaterials.Since 2004,researches on the biological effects and safety evaluation of nanomaterials have been developing rapidly and grown to an interdisciplinary field,nanotoxicology.The safety issue of nanotechnology attracts the attentions of the academic,enterprise,government and public.The authors described the urgency and importance of safety evaluation on nanomaterials,and focused on the latest progress related to nano-product,workplace and environment.In addition,a brief discussion on the standardization in nanotechnology,the nano-ethics and the risk management of nanotechnology was presented.

Abstract:In recent years, with the deepening research, metal zinc oxide (ZnO) nanomaterials have become a popular research object in the biological field, particularly in biomedicine and food safety, which is attributed to their unique physicochemical properties such as high surface area and volume ratio, luminescence effect, surface characteristics and biological activities. Herein, this review provides a detailed overview of the ZnO nanomaterial-mediated biological applications that involve anti-bacterial, anti-tumor, anti-inflammation, skin care, biological imaging and food packaging applications. Importantly, the corresponding action mechanisms of ZnO nanomaterials are pointed. Additionally, the structure and structure-dependent physicochemical properties, the common synthesis methods and the biosafety of ZnO nanoparticles are revealed in brief. Finally, the significance and future challenges of ZnO nanomaterial applications are concluded.

Abstract:Nanoparticles are atomic or molecular groups composed of a very small number of atoms or molecules. The particles have a shell structure. Nanomaterials are made up of a long-range ordered arrangement of atoms in grains and a disordered interface composition. The nanomaterial has a large number of interfaces. These unique volume effects, surface effects, and macroscopic quantum tunnelling effects enable nanomaterials to have unusual mechanical, electrical, magnetic, thermal, optical, catalysis, and superconducting properties. Such characteristics make nanomaterials have significant application value in the fields of national defense, electronics, chemical industry, metallurgy, light industry, aviation, ceramics, catalysts, medicine, etc. The development of nanomaterial technology will have a profound impact on the productivity and may solve a series of problems such as food, health, energy and environmental protection fundamentally. This article analyzes the application prospect of nanomaterial and different preparation method. At the same time, the advantages and disadvantages of preparation are shown in the article which provides a literature review for researchers to refer.
Biological activity induced by nanometer properties and the safety evaluation of biomedical nanomaterials

Abstract:Objective: The blossom of nanotechnology leads to substantive changes in biomedical field, which dramatically improves the effectiveness of disease diagnosis and treatment. However, when the products are used into human body, it evokes a series thought and the toxicology is reported successively. Therefore, the scientists around the world appeal that before the commercial benefits of these materials can be fully realized, the evaluation of the human health implications of exposure to nanoscale materials will be urgently needed. Furthermore, to well understand their properties and characteristics both outside and within the biological environment is benefit for revealing the toxicological and bioactive mechanisms. Data Sources: The English-published articles were partly cited from the 7th World Biomaterials Congress and the others were searched in Medline Database between July 1999 and February 2006 by using the key words of "Nano Safety, nanotoxicology, nanomaterials", and the language was limited to English. Meanwhile, the website http://www.cqvip.com.cn was searched for related articles using the same key words in Chinese. Study Selection: The data were selected firstly and finally 48 articles about the safety evaluation of nanomaterials and characteristic of nanoscale materials were collected. Data Extraction: Among the 48 articles, 12 pieces were excluded due to the repeated or similar contents. The selected 36 literatures were classified and arranged, out of which 26 were selected in the references. Data Synthesis: Biomedical nanomaterials applied in diagnosis, treatment of disease and tissue repair can enter the body through many approaches and reach to every part through blood circulation. Being different from regular biomaterials, nanomaterials are comparatively small and have a lot of special physico-chemical properties, which can result in some special biological effects. Conclusion: That nanostructure can induce some special biological activities demands that it is not scientific and satisfactory to detect the biological safety of nano pharmaceutical products by using the traditional screening approaches. Therefore, it is essential to pay attention to their physico-chemical properties and the existence in body when evaluating the safety of nanomaterials.

Abstract:<p>The field of two-dimensional (2D) nanomaterial-based cancer immunotherapy combines research from multiple subdisciplines of material science, nano-chemistry, in particular nano-biological interactions, immunology, and medicinal chemistry. Most importantly, the "biological identity" of nanomaterials governed by bio-molecular corona in terms of bimolecular types, relative abundance, and conformation at the nanomaterial surface is now believed to influence blood circulation time, bio-distribution, immune response, cellular uptake, and intracellular trafficking. A better understanding of nano-bio interactions can improve utilization of 2D nano-architectures for cancer immunotherapy and immunotheranostics, allowing them to be adapted or modified to treat other immune dysregulation syndromes including autoimmune diseases or inflammation, infection, tissue regeneration, and transplantation. The manuscript reviews the biological interactions and immunotherapeutic applications of 2D nanomaterials, including understanding their interactions with biological molecules of the immune system, summarizes and prospects the applications of 2D nanomaterials in cancer immunotherapy.</p>

Abstract:Due to its antibacterial properties,silver nanoparticles has been widely used in various fields,such as environment,agriculture and medicals,etc.Previous studies had investigated the health effects and action mechanism of silver nanoparticles in vivo and in vitro studies.However,due to the limitation of study design or research conditions,the previous research results were still insufficient and the health effects and action mechanism of silver nanoparticles still unclear.The research progress in toxicology of silver nanoparticles in recent years was reviewed,and the lack of current research as well as future research prospects discussed.
