Imaging Diagnosis of Mediastinal Neuroblastoma in Children

Abstract:Objective To explore the value and limitations of diagnostic imaging techniques in diagnosing mediastinal neuroblastoma in children.Methods The imaging findings(X-ray film,type B ultrasonic,and CT scan)of mediastinal neuroblastoma confirmed by operation and pathology in 8 cases were retrospectively analysed.The value and limitation of these three diagnostic imaging techniques were evaluated in diagnosing this disease.Results X-ray films showed the posterior mediastinal mass in seven subjects.All eight subjects demonstrated the mediastinal mass in the type B ultrasonic test,in which six had manifestation of rich blood flow inside the mass.CT scan showed round shape soft tissue mass in all eight subjects and six of them with mixed density and cloudy calcification.Conclusion Chest X-ray film is adeguate for identifying the location of mediastinal mass initially.B ultrasonic test,can detect the features of the blood supply inside the tumor,and is a better method in the initial examination for the non-compliant children.CT scan,is the best method in diagnosing mediastinal neuroblastoma,and is able to show the anatomic relationship between the tumor and its surrounding tissues.
