Abstract:Objective To compare the extracellular phospholipase activities of candida albican strains in vaginae isolated from the vulvovaginal candidosis (VVC) patients and asymptomatic carriers, respectively,to investigate the correlation between vulvovaginal candidosis and the extracellular phospholipase activity of Candida albicans. Methods The VVC patients and asymptomatic carriers were selected randomly, and the Candida albican strains isolated from their vaginal discharge were tested for the extracellular phospholipase activities by means of an egg-yelk-containing plate. Results The ratio of extracellular phospholipase positive strains or the activity of extracellular phospholipase was significantly higher in the VVC patients group than that in the carriers group( P 0.001,respectively).Conclusion The results indicated that extracellular phospholipase is probably an important virulence factor in the pathogenesis of vulvovaginal candidosis.
