Planning of modern Harbin under urban typological transformation

Abstract:Being the subsidiary area of CER (Chinese Eastern Railway) build by the Tsarist Russia, Harbin began an overall typological transformation from a scattered country to a modern metropolis since 1898. In Ju-ly, 1898, CER Engineering Bureau entrusted someone in charge of the urban planning for Harbin. This was the first practice to built city by planning in Harbin area and the earliest planning practice in the history of urban development in modern China. This subject was discussed from three aspects of the initial transformation, planning feature and green system in Harbin city.
