Abstract:Anti-Bredt di(amino)carbene supported gold(I) chloride complexes are readily prepared in two steps from the corresponding isocyanide complexes. In the presence of KB(C6F5)4 as chloride scavenger, they promote the unprecedented hydroarylation reaction of alkenes with N,N-dialkylanilines with high para-selectivity. The latter are challenging arenes for Friedel-Craft reactions, due to their high basicity.

Abstract:A gold‐catalyzed room temperature allenation of terminal alkynes (ATA) with aldehydes affording 1,3‐disubstituted allenes with diverse functional groups has been developed by identifying a gold(I) catalyst and an amine. The practicality of this reaction has been demonstrated by a ten gram‐scale synthesis and the synthetic potentials have been demonstrated via various transformations and formal total synthesis of (−)‐centrolobine. Mechanistic studies revealed that the gold catalyst, the aldehyde effect, the fluoroalkyl hydroxyl solvent (TFE or HFIP) and the structure of amine are vital in this room temperature ATA reaction.

Abstract:Highly regio- and enantioselective intermolecular hydroamination of alkenes is a challenging process potentially leading to valuable chiral amines. Hydroamination of alkenes via metal-catalyzed hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) with good regioselectivity and functional group tolerance has been reported, however, high enantioselectivity has not been achieved due to the lack of suitable ligands. Here we report a ligand-promoted cobalt-catalyzed Markovnikov-type selective radical hydroamination of alkenes with diazo compounds. This operationally simple protocol uses unsymmetric NNN-tridentate (UNT) ligand, readily available alkenes and hydrosilanes to construct hydrazones with good functional group tolerance. The hydrazones can undergo nitrogen-nitrogen bond cleavage smoothly to deliver valuable amine derivatives. Additionally, asymmetric intermolecular hydroamination of unactivated aliphatic terminal alkenes using chiral N-imidazolinylphenyl 8-aminoquinoline (IPAQ) ligands has also been achieved to afford chiral amine derivatives with good enantioselectivities.

Abstract:The development of photocatalytic intermolecular hydroamination reaction between N‐aminated dihydropyridines and unactivated alkenes is reported. Metal‐free co‐catalysts, rhodamine 6G and thiophenol, in presence of visible light are used to initiate the process. The transformation shows a broad substrate scope, both alkenes and amidyl radical can act as coupling partners. The radical strategy provides excellent anti‐Markovnikov selectivity and regioselectivity in diene substrates.

Abstract:A HFIP-promoted highly selective hydroxyalkylation of aniline derivatives with arylglyoxal hydrates has been realized. The reaction produces various N,N-dialkylanilines and their derivatives with α-hydroxy carbonyl units in good to excellent yields under mild conditions. Furthermore, the synthetic potential of this method has been demonstrated by the facile synthesis of several structurally interesting molecules such as benzil, 1,2,4-triazine, quinoxaline, hydantoin, and 2-thiohydantoin with aromatic amine units.

Abstract:Dual catalyst-controlled intramolecular unactivated C(sp(3))-H amination and oxygenation of carbamates merging visible-light photocatalysis and earth-abundant transition metal catalysis have been reported. Useful amino alcohol and diol derivatives could be selectively obtained from readily available tertiary alcohol derivatives. The possible mechanisms have been proposed via a 1,5-HAT process followed by Lewis acid-controlled cyclization. The nickel and zinc catalysts inhibit the formation of oxygenation and amination products, respectively. An interesting phenomenon of chirality transfer is also observed.

Abstract:A co-catalyst of (PPh3)AuCl/AgOTf for the intermolecular hydroamination of allenes with sulfonamides is shown. The reaction proceeded smoothly under mild conditions for differently substituted allenes giving N-allylic sulfonamides in good yields with high regioselectivity and E-selectivity.

Abstract:A set of catalytic, intermolecular hydroaminations of strained bicyclic olefins and dienes are reported that occur in both high yield and high enantioselectivity. These reactions occur with a catalyst generated from [Ir(cyclooctene)Cl]2, sterically hindered and electron-rich derivatives of the Segphos and BIPHEP family of ligands, and a soluble base. This system catalyzes the addition of various anilines to norbornene, norbornadiene, and other bicyclic olefins. The products from addition of p-anisidine can be transformed to BOC-protected norbornylamine and to substituted cyclopentanes in nearly enantiopure form. Mechanistic studies show that addition of aniline-d2 occurs in a syn fashion and suggest that the catalytic cycle comprises oxidative addition of aniline to form a bis-anilide hydride complex, followed by migratory insertion of olefin and reductive elimination of product in a series of steps involving iridium complexes containing ancillary bisphosphine and arylamide ligands.

Abstract:Despite the current progress achieved in asymmetric hydroacylations, highly enantioselective catalytic addition of unfunctionalized aldehydes to internal alkenes remains an unsolved challenge. Here, using a coordination-assisted strategy, we developed a rhodium-catalyzed regio- and enantioselective addition of unfunctionalized aldehydes to internal alkenes such as enamides and β,γ-unsaturated amides. Valuable α-amino ketones and 1,4-dicarbonyl compounds were directly obtained with high enantioselectivity from readily available materials.

Abstract:A gold(III)-catalyzed carbon-carbon bond formation reaction between arenes and electron-deficient alkynes or alkenes is described. Electron-rich arenes can be efficiently functionalized with the alkyne or alkene substrates. This reaction can be run with neat reactants at ambient temperature. Under the "solventless" conditions, clean product was obtained from a reaction of equal molar amounts of arene and alkyne substrates. The mild conditions and potential tolerance to different functional groups make this method practical for arene functionalization and for constructing complicated molecules. Efficient preparation of various coumarins from aryl alkynoates was demonstrated. Preliminary mechanistic studies were performed to probe the pathway of this reaction.

Abstract:Despite the recent advances made in the area of asymmetric hydrosilylation, metal-catalyzed enantioselective hydrosilylation of unactivated internal alkenes remains a challenge. Here, we report a rhodium-catalyzed enantioselective hydrosilylation of unactivated internal alkenes bearing a polar group. The coordination assistance by an amide group enables the hydrosilylation to occur with high regio- and enantioselectivity.

Abstract:The carboxylation of unsaturated amine and alcohol compounds, including 4-benzylamino-1-phenyl-1-butyne (homopropargylamine), 2-butyne-1-ol (propargylic alcohol), and 2,3-butadiene-1-ol (allenylmethyl alcohol), using the hydroxidogold(I) complex, AuOH(IPr) [IPr = 1,3-bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)-imidazol-2-ylidene], produces corresponding alkenylgold(I) complexes with a cyclic urethane or carbonate framework in high yields. The reaction takes place in aprotic THF at room temperature under the atmospheric pressure of CO2 in the absence of base additives. The products were characterized by NMR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and X-ray crystallography. The functionalized alkenyl complexes prepared from the alkynes can be protonated by treatment with an equimolar amount of acetic acid to afford five- or six-membered carboxylation products, whereas the related alkenyl complex derived from allenylmethyl alcohol decomposed to recover the starting allene via ring-opening decarboxylation.

Abstract:Oxidant-free gold-catalyzed reactions are emerging as a novel synthetic tool for organic transformations. Here in, we reported a hemilabile P,N-ligand-assisted gold-catalyzed Hiyama cross coupling reaction of aryl and alkenyl iodides with allylsilanes. The reaction proceeds smoothly without external oxidant under mild conditions, access to a series of allylarenes and 1,4-dienes derivatives in good to excellent yields. This transformation features a broad substrate scope, good functional group tolerance, and compatibility with heteroaromatic substrates. The (P,N) ligand MeDalphos-facilitated gold-catalyzed process presents a new approach for the synthesis of allylarenes and 1,4-diene derivatives. Moreover, mechanistic investigations including NMR and mass spectrometric studies strongly support the proposed mechanism of the reaction.

Abstract:An Ir-catalyzed regioselective hydroamination of internal homoallyl amines is reported. Both cyclic and acyclic internal olefins undergo directed hydroamination reactions with both aromatic and cyclic aliphatic amines afford a variety of 1,4-diamines in fair to excellent yields. Nineteen examples are reported with yields ranging from 29-74%. Observed diastereoselective and mechanistic investigations support that the reactions are proceeding through an Ir-catalyzed trans-aminometallation to form a 5-membered metalacyclic intermediate.

Abstract:Here, we synthesize a series of hydrazone-based N,O-chelate half-sandwich iridium complexes through a facile route. Abstract:The hydroarylation reaction of terminal alkynes with arylboronic acids catalyzed by low (400 ppm) loadings of palladium has been developed. The reaction is broad in scope and high-yielding, even on multi-gram scale. It is suitable for the synthesis of alkenes labeled with deuterium, and for the late-stage modification of bioactive molecules.

Abstract:A rhodium-catalyzed protocol has been established for the enantioselective hydroamination of gem-difluoroallenes with anilines. This strategy shows complete atom-efficiency to access a variety of enantioenriched gem-difluoroallylic amines in excellent branched selectivity (>99:1 for each case), which are important backbones in many biologically active compounds. Mechanistic studies suggest the generation of a gem-difluoro π-allyl rhodium intermediate by an exclusive hydrometalation pathway, which undergoes nucleophilic substitution of amines.
