Product Information Modeling for Supporting Collaborative Concept Design

Abstract:Modern mechanical product design is becoming increasingly collaboration intensive. The representation of prod-uct information is one key issue of supporting communication and coordination of different designers in collaboration. This pa-per proposed an object-oriented product information model. It contains not only the geometric,physical properties of the prod-uct, but also other non-geometric information such as function, behavior and performance, etc. Moreover,it characterizes the hi-erarchical structure of the different properties of product and the relationship among them clearly. This satisfies the requirement of the product information sharing during the process of the col-laborative concept design.
