Expression of Nerve Growth Factor and Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor in Cultured Schwann Cells

Abstract:Objective : To investigate the expression of nerve growth factor(NGF) and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in the cultured Schwann cells. Methods : Schwann cells obtained from new born Sprague-Dawley rats were cultured and passaged. Immunocytochemistry ABC method was employed to observe the immunoreactive of NGF and BDNF in the cultured Schwann cells. Results : The cultured Schwann cells were spindle, oval, triangle-shaped and had better stereoscopical feature and dioptric feature. Schwann cells were immunoreactive of NGF and BDNF in vitro. Conclusion: Schwann cells can secret NGF and BDNF in vitro.
