Abstract:This article introduces the theoretical basis of the Length Approach and the basic idea of the Length Approach, and explains the teaching design of the Length Approach which includes the teaching goal, teaching methods, classroom teaching, evaluation and feedback.For a long time, writing has always been one of the weakest links in college English teaching in China. College English textbooks in China indicate that writing is one part of intensive reading, or more accurately, subordinate to vocabulary practice and grammar drill. Compared with other language skills, less than enough class time is allocated to writing, and little preparation is done for written work in class. The teaching of writing in the English teaching classroom often goes this way: the teacher gives a topic or a selection of topics, a set of requirements, and a time limit. The students finish the task within the time limit and hand in the final product, and then receive a grade, perhaps a response and another assignment. The efficiency of writing course is very low. Students' poor performance in the CET-4 (College English Test Band-4) and CET-6 (College English Test Band-6) can serve as an illustration of the low efficiency.Teaching English writing is always the most difficult part of English education in China. Because writing is just a part of intensive reading, there are few course periods for teaching it in class. Therefore, teachers have no time to pay much attention to the teaching of writing which is thought to be time-consuming and inefficient. In order to pass CET-4 or CET-6, a cram session for composition guidance has become a common teaching mode in most colleges. Students are lack of real communicative desire, and their subjective initiative and creative thinking are limited. The lag of writing teaching has resulted in a serious imbalance between the input and the output, affecting the students' language knowledge internalization. In this case, the Length Approach, advocated by Professor Wang Chuming, comes into being and brings a new enlightenment to the college English writing teaching.

Abstract:In English course teaching, writing teaching is also an important teaching content and an important knowledge point in higher vocational English teaching. To a certain extent, English writing is an assessment of students’ comprehensive English learning ability. To carry out higher vocational English courses under the network environment writing teaching needs to adapt to the teaching reform and development of the new era, and promote the continuous improvement of the quality of information teaching in English writing. At present, there are still some problems and shortcomings in the development of the informatization of English writing teaching in higher vocational colleges. For this, it is necessary to further improve the analysis of the network environment by higher vocational English teachers, and realize that network informatization is in the teaching of English writing in higher vocational schools. The importance of application, analysis of the problems in the teaching of English writing information in higher vocational colleges, and exploring effective countermeasures for higher vocational English writing teaching under the network environment.

Abstract:This paper,based on the results of an extensive study regarding the teaching of English for non-English major graduate students in China, raises some issues calling for attention and identifies some areas for research and reform.Efforts should be made in:(1)reforming the traditional knowledge- oriented teaching approach and stressing the development of the students'ability in language use; (2)advocating learner-centeredness and experiential learning and encouraging learner autonomy;(3) taking full advantage of the modern facilities for teaching and tapping the learner potential;(4) emphasizing quality education and improving the students'ability in logical thinking;(5)improving the quality of the teaching staff;and(6)properly handling the relationship between teaching and testing and introducing a scientific evaluation system.

Abstract:Grammatical errors are common in students' writing and, to some extent, hinder effective communication. Abstract:As we all know that many graduate students need to finish academic writing in English. Research on English academic writing has attracted increasing scholarly attention. However, there are few breakthroughs in the research on postgraduates' English academic writing in China, and few studies have focused on the writing difficulties and solutions of postgraduates of English majors. In this study, we mainly used a questionnaire and interview to explore 19 postgraduates of English major about their perceptions of factors affecting their writing, challenges encountered in the writing process, and coping strategies. Results indicate that: 1) all the postgraduates were clear about the steps and contents of an academic thesis, but more than half of them would write their thesis in Chinese first and then translate it into English; 2) many factors were important for English academic writing, and the most important of which were logic, good ideas, etc. The important factors affecting their writing were inappropriate expressions, the shortage of writing training, vocabulary and sentence form, etc.; 3) Postgraduates encountered many difficulties and challenges in the process of English academic writing, and the literature review and the selection of the topic were considered to be the most difficult parts. To cope with these difficulties, they adopted many solutions, such as reading more literature and imitating published papers.

Abstract:Reform of College English Test Band 4(CET4) plays an important role in the ongoing college English reform.This article reviews briefly the history of CET4 reforms based on linguistic testing theories and changes in college English syllabus,and by combining the questionnaires among college English teachers and students,it points out that this reform can not solve the existing problems.Furthermore,it provides some suggestions to lower the role of CET4 in the society and English teaching,establishes a new evaluation system,and combines terminative and formative evaluations in order to improve the college English teaching quality effectively.

Abstract:With the continuous advancement of the new curriculum standard reform of senior high school English, English teaching based on the core quality of English teaching has become one of the important goals of senior high school English teaching.
