Abstract:Biodegradable polyesteramide(PEA) was synthesized from diamidediol, 1,4-butanediol and adipic acid. A preliminary research of p-nitro-aniline/biodegradable polyesteramide delivery system was carried out. Experimental results showed that PEA was a suitable drug delivery system carrier.

Abstract:In this paper, a new kind of biodegradable polyetheresteramide-based polyurethane (PEEA-U) copolymers were prepared by melt polymerization from ε-caprolactone, 6-aminocaproic acid, poly(ethylene glycol), and toluene diisocyanate. The obtained polymers were characterized by 1H NMR, FTIR, DSC, WAXD, and TGA/DTG. The water absorption, hydrolytic degradation, and alkaline degradation behavior of these copolymers were also studied in detail.

Abstract:AbstrcatA new kind of polyesteramides (PEAs) copolymer based on e-caprolactone and 6-Aminocaproic acid was synthesized by the melt polycondensation method. The copolymers were characterized by FTIR,~1H-NMR, DSC, WAXD and tensile testing. The water absorption and degradation behavior were also studied. The results showed that the PEAs could be synthesized quantificationally. With the increasing of 6-Aminocaproic acid content, the melting temperature, the tensile mechanical properties, the water absorption ,and degradation behavior increase accordingly.

Abstract:Polyesteramide (PEA(n, x/y))prepolymers with M-n from 4400 to 6400 were synthesized through melt polycondensation from whim, butanediol and N,N'-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)oxalamide (0) or N, N'-bis (2-hydroxyethyl) adipamide (4) at different butanediol (x) to bisamidediol (y) molar ratios. Chain extension reaction was performed with 2,2'-(1,4-phenylene)-bis(2-oxazoline) (PBOX) and adipoyl biscaprolactamate (ABC) as combined chain extenders. High molecular weight PEA (n, x/y) with M-n up to 22500 and M-n up to 53100 was prepared. The PEA(n, x/y) prepolymers and the chain extended PEA (n,x/y) were characterized by FTIR and H-1-NMR spectroscopy, differential scanning calonmetry (DSC), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). H-1-NMR spectra revealed that during the preparation of the PEA (n,x/y) prepolymers, some esteramide exchange side reaction took place. DSC studies indicated that after chain extension the T-m and Delta H-m of the polyesteramides decreased. TGA studies showed that after the chain extension, the thermal stability of the PEA (n,x/y)s slightly decreased, but still a little higher than that of poly(butylene adipate).

Abstract:A series of novel biodegradable unsaturated poly(ether ester amide)s (PEEAs) have been successfully prepared through interfacial polycondensation of 1,6-hexanediamine and unsaturated diacylchlorides containing ethylene oxide moieties linked to maleic anhydride by ester. The structures of PEEAs are verified by FT-IR and NMR spectra. The DSC and TGA measurements demonstrate the obtained polymers are amorphous and stable up to 300C under nitrogen. Synthesized PEEAs show good hydrophilicity and improved solubility. The rate of hydrolytic degradation performed in the phosphate buffer solution (pH = 7.2) at 37C increases with increasing the number of ether linkages per repeat unit in polymers. The degradation results indicate that PEEAs are hydrolyzable in a rapid and steady way.

Abstract:In this paper, a new kind of biodegradable aliphatic polyetheresteramide copolymers (PEEA) based on \(\varepsilon\)-caprolactone, 6-aminocaproic acid, and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) were synthesized by melt polymerization method. The obtained copolymers were characterized by 1H-NMR. The thermal properties of PEEA copolymers were studied by DSC and TGA/DTA under nitrogen atmosphere. The water absorption and hydrolytic degradation behavior was also studied in detail. With the increase in PEG content or the decrease in caprolactone content, the water absorption of the copolymers increased accordingly. For the hydrolytic degradation behavior, with the increase in PEG content or caprolactone content, the degradation rate increased then.

Abstract:Biodegradable aliphatic polyetheresteramides copolymers (PEEAs) were synthesized from epsilon-caprolactone, 6-aminocaproic acid, and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) by melt-polycondensation method. FTIR, H-1 NMR, differential scanning calorimeter, wide-angle X-ray diffraction, and thermogravimetric analysis/differential thermogravimetry were used to characterize the PEEAs. The tensile testing, water absorption and hydrolytic degradation behavior were also studied. With the increase in PEG content, the water absorption increased. The rate of hydrolytic degradation depended on the copolymers' hydrophilicity and crystallinity. PEEAs with a relatively low content of PEG still retain good tensile properties. Abstract:Monomers having amino acid residues at the both ends were synthesized from amino acids, adipoyl chloride, and 1, 4-butanediol. Polyesteramides containing peptide linkages (Phe-Phe, Phe-Leu, Phe-Val, and Phe-Ala) were synthesized from these monomers by using 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl) carbodiimide hydrochloride as the coupling agent. Polymers with moderate molecular weight (5600—7700) were obtained. These polymers were soluble in organic acids and polar aprotic solvents such as dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and N,N -dimethyl formamide (DMF), as well as in chloroform. The results of biodegradation studies indicated that all of these polyesteramides were hydrolyzed by enzymes, such as α-chymotrypsin, subtilisin Carlsberg, and lipase. The rate of degradation depended strongly on the nature of amino acid residues in the polymer chains reflecting the enzyme specificity. The polymers obtained are anticipated to find agricultural or biomedical applications.

Abstract:In this work, a kind of aliphatic biodegradable polyesteramide (PEA) copolymer based on 6-aminocaproic acid, adipic acid, and 1,6-hexane diol was synthesized by melt polycondensation method, and was characterized by 1 H-NMR, FTIR and DSC. The PEA fiber was prepared by melt-spinning method. Tensile properties of the as-spun and hot-drawn fibers were also investigated. Hydrolytic degradation behavior of PEA copolymer chips and fibers were evaluated by weight loss in PBS solution with different pH value. The alkaline degradation behavior of fiber was also studied on change of diameter and surface morphology. During alkaline degradation, the PEA fiber underwent surface erosion.

Abstract:ABSTRACTPoly(ester amide) has attracted much attention because they demonstrate satisfactory mechanical performance, yet are biodegradable. Owing to the increasing depletion of fossil resources, we chose 1,4‐butanediol, 1,10‐decanediamine (DD), 1,10‐sebacic acid, and itaconic acid (IA), which can be produced in large scale by fermentation of renewable resources, to synthesize a series of biobased poly(ester amide)s (BPEAs) by condensation polymerization. We used multiple monomers to suppress crystallization. The pyrrolidone rings formed between DD and IA increases the molecular spacing and the chain irregularity of BPEAs. The properties of BPEAs were tunable by adjusting the monomer ratio. The effect of DD content on the molecular weight, thermal stability, mechanical properties, and in vitro degradation of BPEAs was investigated. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Abstract:Series of biodegradable polyesters poly(butylene adipate) (PBA), poly(butylene succinate) (PBS), and poly(butylene adipate-co-butylene terephthalate) (PBAT) were synthesized successfully by melt polycondensation. The polyesters were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), 1H-NMR, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and gel permeation chromatography (GPC), respectively. The blends of poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and biodegradable polyester were prepared using a twin screw extruder. PBAT, PBS, or PBA can be homogenously dispersed in PLA matrix at a low content (5-20 wt%), yielding the blends with much higher elongation at break than homo-PLA. DSC analysis shows that the isothermal and nonisothermal crystallizabilities of PLA component are promoted in the presence of a small amount of PBAT.

Abstract:A series of polyesteramide prepolymers[PrePEA(0/4,8)s] having mixed alternating bisesterdiamide units was synthesized via melt polycondensation from N,N′-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)oxamide(0) and N,N′-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)-adipamide(4) with sebacic acid(8) at different molar ratios. Chain extension of them was conducted with 2,2′-(1,4-phenylene)-bis(2-oxazoline) and adipoyl biscaprolactamate as combined chain extenders. The chain extended polyesteramides[ExtPEA(0/4,8)s] were characterized by proton nuclear magnetic resonance(1H NMR), gel permeation chromatography(GPC), differential scanning calorimetry(DSC), thermogravimetry analysis(TGA), wide angle X-ray scattering, tensile test and enzymatic degradation. The results show that ExtPEA(0/4,8)s were crystalline polyesteramides. They had Tm up to 136.5 °C and initial decomposition temperature above 297.5 °C. They crystallized in similar crystallites into Nylon-66 and degraded under the catalysis of protease or lipase. They are thermoplastic materials with tensile strength up to 21.5 MPa and elongation at break above 64.0%.

Abstract:. A new type of biodegradable polyesteramide P(LA/AU) based on lactic acid and aminoundecanoic acid was synthesized by the melt polycondensation method. The copolymers obtained were characterized by FTIR, 1 H-NMR, DSC, and XRD. The in vitro degradation behavior of the copolymers was studied using weighing, 1 H-NMR, FTIR, DSC, and SEM. With the increase in aminoundecanoic acid units, the melting temperature and crystallinity increased, but the water absorption and degradation rate decreased accordingly. During degradation in vitro, the ester moiety decreased due to ester cleavage along the macromolecular main chain. As degradation proceeded, the melting temperature and crystallinity increased at first, then started to decrease because the crystalline phase was destroyed.

Abstract:Biodegradable polyesteramide copolymer P(CL/AU) based on ε-caprolactone and 11-aminoundecanoic acid was synthesized by the melt polycondensation method. Polyesteramide (PEA) microspheres were prepared by a simple O/W emulsion solvent evaporation method. The effects of variations in preparation parameters (such as emulsifier concentration, polymer concentration, polymer solution adding rate, stirring rate, and whether vacuum was applied) were studied in detail. The obtained microsphere morphologies were observed using an optical microscope and via scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The particle size distribution was determined using a Malvern laser particle sizer. When the PEA microspheres were incubated in PBS saline, the particle size increased at first, and then decreased after a longer time period; the theory that this behavior was due to degradation of the microspheres was confirmed by SEM.
Biodegradable polyester copolymers: synthesis based on the Biginelli reaction, characterization, and evaluation of their application properties

Abstract:The Biginelli reaction, a three-component cyclocondensation reaction, is an important member of the multicomponent reaction (MCR) family. In this study, we conducted end-group modifications on a variety of biodegradable polyesters, including poly(1,4-butylene adipate) (PBA), poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL), polylactic acid (PLA), and poly(p-dioxanone) (PPDO), based on the precursor polyethylene glycol (PEG). By combining two polymers through the Biginelli multi-component reaction, four new biodegradable polyester copolymers, namely DHPM-PBA, DHPM-PCL, DHPM-PLA, and DHPM-PPDO, were formed. These Biginelli reactions demonstrated exceptional completeness, validating the efficiency of the synthesis strategy. Although the introduction of various polyesters lead to different properties, such as crystallinity and cytotoxicity, the newly synthesized 3,4-dihydro-2(H)-pyrimidinone compounds (DHPMs) exhibit enhanced hydrophilicity and can self-assemble in water and N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) solution to form micelles with a controllable size. Furthermore, DHPM-PPDO promotes cellular growth and has potential applications in wound healing and tissue engineering. In conclusion, this method demonstrates great universality and methodological significance and offers insights into the medical applications of polyethylene glycol.

Abstract:A new family of alternate poly(ester-anhydrides) containing aliphatic and aromatic diacids were synthesized. The dicarboxylic acids were obtained by derivatization of p-hydroxy benzoic acid at the hydroxy terminus with cyclic anhydride (adipic anhydride and succinic anhydride) and subsequently polymerized via the corresponding mixed anhydrides by melt polycondensation. DSC traces revealed that the polymers had low Tg (<40°C) and no crystallinity. The static contact angle measurements indicated that the poly(ester-anhydrides) were more hydrophobic than poly(d,l-lactide) and poly(adipic anhydride). In vitro degradation of the polymers was also investigated in pH 7.4 PBS at 37°C. It was found that degradation rate of the poly(ester-anhydrides) increased with p-carboxy phenyl adipic monoester (CPA) content in the polymers and the degradation duration could be adjusted from ca. 20 days to ca. 2 months. Erosion curve of poly(p-carboxy phenyl adipic monoester anhydride) (PCPA) was characterized by a linear region of weight loss at nearly constant rate in the first 7 days (ca. 80% of weight loss) followed by a gradual decrease region. IR and SEM analysis showed that significant erosion of PCPA occurred in the outer layer and no apparent erosion could be seen in the inner layer of the degrading sample after 7-day degradation. The poly(ester-anhydrides) may be used as either anti-infective polymeric prodrugs or matrices for drug delivery.

Abstract:Poly (L-lactic acid-co-α-alanine) copolymer,as one of biodegradable poly(ester-amide)s derived from L-lactic acid and α-alanine,was synthesized by direct melting copolymerization with stannous chloride and p-toluenesulfonic acid as catalyst system.The structure and properties of the obtained copolymers were measured via FT-IR,13CNMR,GPC,DSC and XRD.With increasing of the content of α-alanine in feed,the data of copolymer molecular weight decreases,the diffraction and the melting peak disappear markedly.The hydrolytic degradation test indicated the resulting copolymer has an excellent degradability;its degradation rate could be enhanced by incorporating more α-phenylalanine into copolymer chain.It is suggested that the obtained copolymer is a potential biomedical material as drug coating on cardiovascular stent.

Abstract:Two kinds of aliphatic alternating polyesteramide prepolymers were prepared through melt polycondensation from N,N′-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)-adipamide and adipic acid or sebacic acid. Chain extension of them was conducted with 2,2′-(1,4-phenylene)-bis(2-oxazoline) and adipoyl biscaprolactamate as combined chain extenders. The chain extended polyesteramides (ExtPEAs) were characterized by IR, 1H-NMR, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, wide angle X-ray scattering, tensile test and enzymatic degradation. The results showed that the ExtPEA(4,m)s were mainly constituted with the diester adipamide alternating units. ExtPEA(4,4) and ExtPEA(4,8) had T m of 83.8°C and 85.8°C and initial decomposition temperature above 310.0°C. They crystallized similarly as Nylon-66 did and were flexible thermoplastic materials with tensile strength up to 25.64 MPa and strain at break up to 737%.

Abstract:Starting from L-tyrosine,glycol,and different four kinds of diacid chloride,four poly(ester-amide)s with side chains were synthesized.The polymers were characterized by FT-IR,NMR for the chemical structures,by DSC and TGA for the thermal transition characteristics,by Ubbelohd viscometer for intrinsic viscosity number.The relationship of hydrophilicity to chain structures was analyzed.Results prove that the biodegradable poly(ester-amide) derives from L-tyrosine are gained.Thermal analysis indicated that thermal processing temperature range of the polymers is broadened as a lower glass transition temperature and a higher thermal degradation temperature.Increasing the number of methylene in polymer backbone,T_g and T_d of polymers decrease and water absorption increases.With the increasing of the soft segment content,the water retention ratio increases.

Abstract:The synthesis of a new family of biodegradable α-amino acid poly(ester amide)s (AA-PEAs) with pendant benzyl ether groups and hydroxyl functional groups is reported. The synthetic strategy employs the ring opening reaction of O-benzyl-l-serine-N-carboxyanhydride with di-p-toluenesulfonic acid salts of bis-l-valine butane-1,4-diester, followed by solution polycondesation reactions with di-p-nitrophenyl sebacate in N,N-dimethylacetamide. Catalytic hydrogenation of the resulting benzyl ether protected AA-PEAs (PEA-Ser-Bzs) was performed to restore the hydroxyl functional groups in the functionalized AA-PEAs (PEA-Ser-OH). All resulting polymers were characterized by standard physico-chemical methods. The pendant hydroxyl groups in PEA-Ser-OH were used to fabricate AA-PEA-based gels via acrylation and photo-gelation. The cell–polymer interactions of PEA-Ser-Bz and PEA-Ser-OH were evaluated in terms of cell attachment and proliferation assay using bovine aortic endothelial cells (BAECs) as well as fibroblasts. The cell culture data indicated that the hydrophobic/hydrophilic characteristics (from contact angle data) of these AA-PEAs could significantly affect the interaction between BAECs and AA-PEA. This finding may provide additional possible applications for this new family of functionalized AA-PEA polymers.

Abstract:In this article, a new kind of biodegradable polyetheresteramide-based polyurethane (PEEA-U) copolymers were prepared by the melt polycondensation method from epsilon-caprolactone, 6-aminocaproic acid, poly(ethylene glycol), and toluene diisocyanate. The water absorption of PEEA-U was affected strongly by the reaction time and the content of chain extender; and the hydrolytic degradation behavior of the copolymers was mainly determined by the reaction time, chain extender content, and the pH value of the degradation medium. Also, DSC, (1)H-NMR, and inherent viscosity were used to characterize the degradation behavior of the copolymers.
