Abstract:The status of pb pollution in tea was discussed by summarizing Pb-content and change tendency of Pb pollution in tea.Information showed that the Pb pollution in tea mainly came from air,dust,effective Pb in soil and processing machines.The pollution degree was affected by tea garden environments and conditions of tea processing,And the corresponding problem and suggestion of controlling pb pollution in tea is put forward.

Abstract:Objective: To investigate the influence of lead exposure on the immune function of lymphocytes and erythrocytes in preschool children. Materials and methods: A group of 217 children three to six years of age from a rural area were given a thorough physical examination and the concentration of lead in blood samples taken from each subject was determined. The indices of lymphocyte immunity (CD 3 + CD 4 + , CD 3 + CD 8 + CD 4 + CD 8 + , CD 3 − CD 19 + ) and erythrocyte immunity (RBC-C 3 b, RBC-IC, RFER, RFIR, CD 35 and its average fluorescence intensity) of 40 children with blood lead levels above 0.483 μmol/L were measured and compared with a control group. Results: The blood lead levels of the 217 children ranged from 0.11 μmol/L to 2.11 μmol/L. The CD 3 + CD 4 + and CD 4 + CD 8 + cells were lower ( P <0.01) and the CD 3 + CD 8 + cells were higher in the lead-poisoned subjects than those in the control group ( P <0.05). CD 3 + and CD 3 − CD 19 + did not show significant differences. Although the RBC-C 3 b rosette forming rate was lower and the RBC-IC rosette forming rate was higher in the lead-poisoned group, this difference could not be shown to be statistically significant ( P >0.05). RFIR was found to be lower in the lead-poisoned group ( P <0.01). Compared with the control group, the positive rate of CD 35 was not found to be significantly different in a group of 25 lead-poisoned children ( P >0.05), while the average fluorescence intensity was lower in the lead-poisoned group ( P <0.05). Conclusion: Lead exposure can result in impaired immune function of T lymphocytes and erythrocytes in preschool children.

Abstract:Abstract Lead poisoning has been recognized as a major public health risk, particularly in developing countries. Though various occupational and public health measures have been undertaken in order to control lead exposure, cases of lead poisoning are still reported. Exposure to lead produces various deleterious effects on the hematopoietic, renal, reproductive and central nervous system, mainly through increased oxidative stress. These alterations play a prominent role in disease manifestations. Modulation of cellular thiols for protection against reactive oxygen species (ROS) has been used as a therapeutic strategy against lead poisoning. N-acetylcysteine, α-lipoic acid, vitamin E, quercetin and a few herbal extracts show prophylaxis against the majority of lead mediated injury in both in vitro and in vivo studies. This review provides a comprehensive account of recent updates describing health effects of lead exposure, relevant biomarkers and mechanisms involved in lead toxicity. It also updates the readers about recent advances in chelation therapy and newer therapeutic strategies, like nanoencapsulation, to treat lead induced toxic manifestations.

Abstract:Lead is one of the most important occupational hazards in China, and occupational exposure is the leading cause of lead poisoning. Lead can be absorbed by the body through air, food, drinking water and skin, and accumulate in multiple organs in the body, posing health risks to humans, especially to lead workers. Many previous studies have shown that lead can affect the function of glial cells such as microglia, astrocytes and oligodendrocytes, resulting in irreversible neurological damage. This article provides an overview of the neurotoxic mechanism induced by lead through glial cells, elucidates that lead can induce neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and reviews the relationship between lead and glial cells, in order to provide reference for further research on the neurotoxic mechanism of lead on glial cells.

Abstract:Lead, a non-essential metal, enters the body in various ways, making it a major public health issue. Painters and smelters report lead poisoning in children and staff. Mining and battery workers risk lead exposure. Traditional and cultural remedies may include dangerous quantities of lead, producing lead poisoning. These drugs must be properly understood and regulated to avoid toxicity. Lead poisoning symptoms vary by duration and severity. Lead first impairs cognition, development, and behaviour by damaging the neural system. Time degrades reproductive and haematological systems. Lead's quiet entry into the body makes it deadly. Acute lead nephropathy damages kidneys at 100mg/dL. Lead levels exceeding 150mg/dL may induce encephalopathy. Blood lead levels indicate lead poisoning severity. Lead levels over 10g/dL in children and 40g/dL in adults are hazardous. Lead toxicity affects various organs. Lead may induce hypertension and cardiovascular disease. It may also cause chronic kidney disease and renal failure. Lead exposure may impede fertility, cause miscarriages, and alter foetal development; hence the reproductive system is vulnerable. Symptoms and lead levels may be treated with different approaches. Lead chelation treatment is frequent. Other vitamins and medications may enhance organ function and treat lead poisoning. Lead poisoning prevention requires widespread awareness. Strict standards and education regarding lead-contaminated products and conventional remedies should reduce occupational lead exposure. Regular blood lead level monitoring, especially in youngsters and lead workers, may help detect and treat lead poisoning early. Lead poisoning has serious health consequences. Understanding lead exposure pathways, identifying symptoms, and preventing lead poisoning is essential to public health and organ system protection.

Abstract:Lead is an important heavy metal used worldwide in several applications, especially in industry. People exposed to lead can develop a wide range of symptoms associated with lead poisoning. Many effects of lead poisoning are reported in the literature, showing a compromising of whole body health, with symptoms related to cardiovascular, immune, bone, reproductive, hematological, renal, gastrointestinal, and nervous system. However, the molecular lead targets as well as the pathways affected by lead poisoning are not completely described. The aim of this study was to construct a map of metabolic pathways impaired in lead poisoning by evaluating which biomolecules are directly affected by lead. Through manual literature curation, we identified proteins which physically interact with lead and subsequently determined the metabolic pathways those proteins are involved with. At total, we identified 23 proteins involved with heme synthesis, calcium metabolism, neurotransmission, among other biological systems, which helps to understand the wide range of lead-poisoning symptoms.

Abstract:Lead (Pb) is a heavy metal with widespread industrial use, but it is also a widespread environmental contaminant with serious toxicological consequences to many species. Pb exposure adversely impacts the cardiovascular system in humans, leading to cardiac dysfunction, but its effects on heart failure risk remain poorly elucidated. To better understand the pathophysiological effects of Pb, we review potential mechanisms by which Pb exposure leads to cardiac dysfunction. Adverse effects of Pb exposure on cardiac function include heart failure risk, pressure overload, arrhythmia, myocardial ischemia, and cardiotoxicity. The data reviewed clearly establish that Pb exposure can play an important role in the occurrence and development of heart failure. Future epidemiological and mechanistic studies should be developed to better understand the involvement of Pb exposure in heart failure.

Abstract:A review with 38 references is given on the recent works covering soil contamination with Pb,the toxic effects of Pb on human health,and the remediation of soils contaminated with Pb.Golbal environmental contamination with heavy metals has accelerated dramatically in the past decades due to anthropogenic activities such as mining,smelting,and fertilization.Lead is one of the primary contaminats and is released mainly through offgas,sewage,and mining.Soils contaminated with lead elicit a challenge of world concern for lead that lead can be uptaken by plants and followed a transfer along the food chain and pose a human health problem.Up to now,available remediation technologies for Pb-polluted soils can be divided into two major groups:physicochemical remediation and bioremediation.The former on includes isolation and containment,solidification and stabilization,pyrometallurgical separation,chemical stabilization,electrokinetic remediation as well as soil leaching;the later one includes microbial remediation,biosorption and phytoremediation.

Abstract:Many children who suffered acute lead poisoning in Queensland eventually died with contracted kidneys. In most cases the kidneys were granular and showed microscopically fibrosis, hypertensive vascular changes and "alterative glomerulitis". Clinically in these patients, hypertension and chronic renal insufficiency had always preceded death which was usually due to uraemia. In a minority of cases the kidneys showed the changes of benign hypertension but were unusually small; fibrosis and "alterative glomerulitis" were not present. Clinically these patients had had hypertension but minimal renal insufficiency and death was usually due to cerebral haemorrhage. The evidence indicates that lead caused severe damage to the kidney at the time of the lead intoxication by some mechanism other than hypertension. The sequence of events postulated comprises severe renal damage with destruction of glomeruli during childhood lead poisoning, disappearance of the destroyed tissue during childhood and adolescence, onset of hypertension in adolescence or early adult life, gradual onset and progress of chronic uraemia during which fibrosis and granularity developed. In milder cases the sequence is not complete because renal function has remained adequate.

Abstract:Lead (Pb) is one of the most common heavy metal pollutants that possesses multi-organ toxicity. For decades, great efforts have been devoted to investigate the damage of Pb to kidney, liver, bone, blood cells and the central nervous system (CNS). For the common, dietary exposure is the main avenue of Pb, but our knowledge of Pb toxicity in gastrointestinal tract (GIT) remains quite insufficient. Importantly, emerging evidence has documented that gastrointestinal disorders affect other distal organs like brain and liver though gut-brain axis or gut-liver axis, respectively. This review focuses on the recent understanding of intestinal toxicity of Pb exposure, including structural and functional damages. We also review the influence and mechanism of intestinal toxicity on other distal organs, mainly concentrated on brain and liver. At last, we summarize the bioactive substances that reported to alleviate Pb toxicity, providing potential dietary intervention strategies to prevent or attenuate Pb toxicity.

Abstract:Neurotoxicity is a term used to describe neurophysiological changes caused by exposure to toxic agents. Such exposure can result in neurocognitive symptoms and/or psychiatric disturbances. Common toxic agents include heavy metals, drugs, organophosphates, bacterial, and animal neurotoxins. Among heavy metal exposures, lead exposure is one of the most common exposures that can lead to significant neuropsychological and functional decline in humans. In this review, neurotoxic lead exposure's pathophysiology, etiology, and epidemiology are explored. In addition, commonly associated neuropsychological difficulties in intelligence, memory, executive functioning, attention, processing speed, language, visuospatial skills, motor skills, and affect/mood are explored.

Abstract:Lead (Pb) is a toxic heavy metal which exists widely in the environment. Children, pregnant women, the elderly, and other populations, have diverse ways of lead exposure and different toxicokinetics. Moreover, the exposure and effect of lead involve multiple metabolic pathways and mechanisms. Besides ALAD, VDR, HFE genes, the polymorphisms of TF gene and oxidative-stress related genes (Rac2, GPx1, XDH) have been discovered recently to affect lead internal exposure level as well. This review comprehensively describes the characteristics of lead exposure, metabolic characteristics and the lead exposure sensitive markers, of different people groups, and looks forward to the future of the application of Genome-Wide Association Study (GWAS) in this field.

Abstract:Manganese is an indispensable trace element in the growing process of living creature. However, long-term manganese exposure can cause different levels of damage to multiple organs or systems in the body. It can also cause irreversible damage to the nervous system, causing dysfunction of mental and extrapyramidal system. The exact neurotoxic mechanism of manganese is not yet clear, and this brings difficulties to the early prevention and cure of manganese poisoning. The present research progress of the neurotoxic mechanisms induced by manganese is summarized from the aspects of mitochondrial damage, autophagy, endoplasmic reticulum stress, inflammatory stimulation and neurotransmitter metabolism.

Abstract:Lead (Pb2+) poisoning is a public health concern of global dimensions. Although several public health guidelines and workplace safety policies are existing and enforced, lead toxicity cases are drastically increasing. Lead exposure leads to numerous harmful consequences and causes adverse effects on different body organs and systems, mainly via the generation of reactive oxygen species, leading to augmented oxidative stress, competing with metal ions, and binding with the sulfhydryl groups. In several instances, lead poisoning cases remain undiagnosed and untreated or receive only symptomatic treatment. Estimation of blood lead levels reflects only a recent exposure, however, which does not reveal the total body burden. This review summarizes the effects of lead with special reference to hepatotoxicity and some of the potential diagnostic biomarkers. Furthermore, it also focuses on synthetic chelators used in the treatment of lead poisoning and the advantage of using bioactive compounds with an emphasis on the ameliorative effect of garlic.
The Association between Lead Exposure and Dental Caries: A Systematic Review

Abstract:Introduction: Dental caries has declined over the years, but it remains a major public health issue. This review aimed to investigate the association between lead (Pb) and caries experience in either deciduous or permanent teeth. Methods: A comprehensive search of PubMed, Embase, and Google Scholar was conducted to identify relevant studies published up until December 2022. Included were human observational studies that investigated the association between Pb exposure and dental caries. The review adhered to the PRISMA guideline. Results: Sixteen studies were included in this review, with nine focusing on deciduous teeth, thirteen on permanent teeth, and six examining both types of teeth. Most of the studies (5 of 6) found a positive association between blood lead (PbB) levels and caries in deciduous teeth, while the findings for permanent teeth were less conclusive, with only 3 of 10 studies finding an association. One of the two studies assessing salivary lead levels found a weak association for permanent teeth. All four studies that measured Pb concentration from teeth found a positive association for both deciduous and permanent teeth. Conclusion: Many published studies have indicated a positive association between Pb exposure and caries experience in deciduous dentition. Children with elevated PbB level should be considered having higher caries experience. Due to lack of consensus on measurement and examination technique, there remains insufficient evidence to make any definitive conclusions, especially in permanent dentition, and so more studies are warranted.
