Tourism Researches in the Top Ten American Universities

Abstract:An extensive Internet search was conducted to collect data on bibliographic and biographic information of scholars from among the top ten public and private universities in the United States. Content analysis reveals that tourism research has begun to take roots within the top institutions of higher learning, and become a legitimate academic discipline favored by numerous world_renowned scholars. The analysis also indicates that tourism research carried out in these universities encompasses a large scope of topics. They include cultural tourism and its impact, anthropological studies on tourism, eco_tourism, space tourism, outdoor recreation and interpretation, tourism literature, protection of natural resources, and tourism planning.
