Abstract:In this paper, a wavelet transform (WT) based multichannel detection system was proposed and applied to the detection of ventricular late potentials (VLPs). Preliminary results showed that the system is capable of detecting every-beat surface VLPs by a weighted averaging technique in the Wand In-transformed domain. Also, we have shown that WT is insensitive to the precise shape of the signal waveform by a robust theorem.
A Method of the Identification of Ventricular Late Potentials

Abstract:The identification of Ventricular Late Potentials (VLP) is completed by means of a method combining wavelet packet analysis with artificial neural network in this paper. At first, the eigenvector of ECG signals, which comprises energy of sub-signals in different frequency bands, is extracted by using the technique of wavelet packet decomposition. Then, the classification of ECG signals are realized by adopting Radial Basis Function Network (RBFN). The experiment data obtained from 28 examples of signal average ECG with three leads are processed. The result showe that the method proposed in this paper is quite satisfying for the identification of VLPs.

Abstract:This paper discusses the design methods of the analyzing system for a HOLTER-based ventricular late potentials.In order to improve the signal noise ratio and the precision of the analysis,atwo-level siftingis processed in recording and analyzing VLP by HOLTER.Thecrude siftingis done inside the recorder,whose task is to detect QRS complex,to get rid of the abnormal beats and record the VLP segments in the normal beats with high resolution and high sampling rate.Thefine siftingis done with computer to perform clustering analysis and correlation operation.The signal averaging operation is adopted with the application of the Simon double-direction filter to eliminate theringing effectof the normal filter.

Abstract:The detection and analysis of Ventricular Late Potentials (VLP) is a kind of effective means to predict patients with disease outbreaks clinically and understand ventricular mechanism, single guide league system will become a trend in future medicine. This paper proposes a Blind Source Separation (BSS) method to single guide league observed signal with correlation theory, this method will unify wavelet packet transformation and Independent Component Analysis (ICA), which can fully recover VLP, but the extracted ECG signal has distortion, in order to eliminate distortion, it is necessary to reduce the noises of extracted ECG signal, then the source signals can be estimated accurately. It is proved that the proposed method is effective, and able to solve underdetermined BSS, it can get better separation effect than the traditional FastICA algorithm that the number of source signals is equal to the number of observed signals.

Abstract:Delineating the crucial waves in electrocardiogram records is a paramount work for the automatic diagnosis system of heart diseases. In this paper, a novel method is described to determine the boundaries and the peaks of P waves, QRS complexes and T waves by utilizing twelve-lead electrocardiogram signals. It avoids the difficulty of setting the thresholds when determining the boundaries of crucial waves and also the trouble of selection of wavelet basis as the wavelet-based method does. The signals are first preprocessed by a bandpass filter. After that, the locations of QRS complexes are identified. And based on the QRS locations, adaptive search windows are set to detect the locations of P waves and T waves. Then, a method called local distance transform decides the wave boundary in each lead. Finally, the final boundary determination rule is applied to obtain reliable boundaries. We justify the performance of our algorithm on LUDB database. When the tolerance window interval is 40ms, the peak accuracies of P wave, QRS complex and T wave are all beyond 98% and their boundary accuracies are all above 96%. Compared with the derivative threshold method and the wavelet-based method where the tolerance window interval is 150ms, the algorithm shows a sensitivity and a positive predictive value of peaks and boundaries greater than or equal to 98.43% and 96.44% for the P wave, 99.89% and 99.86% for the QRS complex and 99.21% and 99.85% for the T wave. For the critera of average error and standard deviation, our method has the performance similar to those methods. In addition, our algorithm can also handle such several situations where the boundary determination of crucial waves is tough as high T wave, high noise and baseline wandering well.

Abstract:With the development of computer technology,the intelligent medical equipment has become one of the most popular trends in this field.However,the electrocardiogram is a non-stationary,weak and diverse signal,which is not easy to be processed especially in portable devices.In order to adapt to diversity of different pathological electrocardiogram signals,a new method has been developed to improve in diagnosing heart diseases intelligently by computer in this paper.By means of the wavelet toolkit in LabVIEW,we design a comprehensive software program based on continuous wavelet transformation with a new self-learning stage between the resolution and reconstruction stages.Consequently,its algorithm can select the optimal values or styles in processing of pathological signals so that it can eliminate different complex noises better than simple traditional wavelet transformation.Due to the simulation experiment with LabVIEW,we have successfully verified the initial feasibility of this algorithm.
Detecting Wolff-Parkinson-White from Lead-I ECG Using Transfer Learning and Wavelets

Abstract:Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome is a congenital heart defect that can trigger ventricular fibrillation and sudden cardiac death. Expert inspection of a 12-lead clinical electrocardiogram (ECG) or a Holter record is the standard approach for detecting WPW syndrome. Smartwatches that acquire lead-I ECGs can enable auto-mated detection of WPW episodes in out-of-hospital settings and prevent adverse outcomes. In this work, we explore deep-learning solutions to identify WPW syndromes on lead-I ECG. Scarcity of labeled ECG data for WPW and other cardiac conduction disorders poses a major challenge for training data-driven methods. Moreover, generalizability of such methods to external patient population remains unexplored. To address these challenges, first we implement and compare multiple existing strategies from time-domain augmentations on the lead-I ECG to transfer learning of Imagenet-models for ECG wavelet transformations. Training and holdout validation of these methods are conducted using about 14,000 ECGs from PTB-XL, a publicly available ECG dataset. Moreover, we explore generalizability of these methods by external validation on the data from 140 patients from the Tongji Hospital ECG Database. While these methods achieve 88% sensitivity and 99% specificity in identifying a lead-I ECG with evident WPW, and an area under the receiver-operating curve (AUC) of 0.99 on the holdout set from PTB-XL, the sensitivity drops to 58% with an AUC of 0.88 on the external validation. Finally, we propose a novel data augmentation strategy by incorporating labeled data from an umbrella super-class of cardiac conduction disorders, instead of WPW alone, thus naturally reducing the data imbalance for model training. We apply these models as zero-shot transfer learning for discriminating WPW from normal ECG. While this approach achieves similar performance during holdout validation, it also demonstrates strong performance on the external Tongji dataset with sensitivity 0.78 and AUC 0.91. This result shows significant generalizability of the proposed method and highlights the potential of deep-learning solutions in monitoring WPW syndrome with lead-I ECG in out-of-hospital general populace settings.

Abstract:In this study, the valvular heart disorder (VHD) detection method by the wavelet packet (WP) decomposition and the support vector machine (SVM) techniques are proposed. From considering the truth that the frequency ranges of the normal sound and VHDs are different from each other, the WP decomposition at level 8 is employed to split more elaborate frequency bandwidths of the heart sound signals. And then the WP energy (WPE) with the distribution information of energy throughout the whole frequency range of heart sound signals is calculated. Since the heart sound signals with the frequency range of 20–750Hz are preferred in this study, WPEs at the terminal nodes from (8,1) to (8,47) are selected and two parameters meanWPE and stdWPE as defined by the mean value and standard deviation of the position indices of the terminal nodes with over the weighting value (ζ) of the maximum value of WPE are proposed as a feature. Furthermore, the SVM technique is employed as the identification tool to classify between the normal sound and VHDs. Finally, a case study on the normal sound, aortic and mitral VHDs is demonstrated to validate the usefulness and efficiency of the VHD detection using WP decomposition and SVM classifier. The experimental results of the proposed VHD detection method showed high performance like the specificity of over 96% and the sensitivity of 100% for both the training and testing data.

Abstract:Synthesis detection of electrocardiographic(ECG) including QRS complex,P wave,T wave is difficult.Wavelet transform is used and a series of detection methods,detection rules and thresold paramters is developed to detect morphology and position of ECG components.Test results show that the synthesis detection algorithm is robust,the influence of extern noise is removed and restrained such as baseline,high frequency,and self annormality equation such as big T wave,big S wave,high U wave and wave fusion.

Abstract:Electrocardiosignal feature extraction is the base of electrocardiologic automatic diagnosis.By using wavelet transform multi-resolution analysis,the noise in electrocardiosignal is removed;and by using proximity signals of wavelet transform the baseline wander is filtered.The high frequency noise is handled and eliminated with the default threshold;and the average value of the electrocardiosignals is set to zero.In detection of R peak,because leak detection will occur when only 23 detail signals is considered,thus the 23 and 24detail signals are integrated to avoid miss detection effectively.The methods avoiding error detection bring excellent effects.For calculating average cardiac electric axis,among the methods of area method,time-voltage method and amplitude method,the area method offers the highest accuracy.
Study on Detection Method of T Waves with Different Morphologies in Electrocardiogram

Abstract:Objective To propose a novel T wave detection method for increasing the detection accuracy of T waves with abnormal morphologies.Methods Based on wavelet transform and support vector machine technology,a new method for detecting T waves with different morphologies in electrocardiogram(ECG) was proposed.The 5000 beat data from 50 sets of real ECG signals with various T wave morphologies downloaded from the QT database were applied to validate the proposed method.Results Compared with the results annotated by the cardiologists on QT database,the accuracy,sensitivity and positive predictive accuracy were 96.38%,98.04% and 100% respectively with the error tolerance being of 20 ms.The average detection accuracy and sensitivity were 6.73% and 4.48% higher respectively than those of other related methods.Conclusion The novel method is of high accuracy to detect T waves with various morphologies and has good scalability and noise immunity.

Abstract:A filter algorithm based on wavelet transform(WT) is developed for enhancement of ECG signals. 50Hz power interference,baseline drift and random noise can be reduced by processing of the wavelet transform in the finest and coarsest scales. Our experi-mental results demonstrate that this is an efficient filtering method.

Abstract:R wave is an important component of Electrocardiogram(ECG),which contains a lot of physiologi-cal and pathological information about heart. Detecting R peak automatically using long-term ECGs is the first and necessary step for further study of heart rate variability analysis,cardiovascular disease diagnosis,biomet-rics and ECG coding etc. This paper proposes a novel automatic R peak detection method based on wavelet transform. Firstly,an improved wavelet threshold method is designed,which is combined with waveletpacket decomposition to denoise the original ECG. Secondly,the denoised ECG is decomposed by DWT and the ap-propriate sub-band signals are selected. The candidate R peaks are detected on such sub-bands according to the adaptive threshold method,and their corresponding positions are then projected to ECG according to the inverse transform. With consideration of the local varying trend of RR intervals,the R peak detection is finally completed. The performance of the proposed R peak detection method is verified on MIT-BIH arrhythmia data-base. The averaged detection error rate (DER),true positive rate (+ P),sensitivity (Se)and accuracy(Acc)on 20 ECG records attain 0. 395％,99. 67％,99. 95％ and 99. 62％ respectively.

Abstract:We introduce and investigate a method to identify the feature point of an electrocardiogram (ECG) to provide real-time and accurate trigger signals for pulsatile ventricular assist devices (PVADs). An important part of this method is an improved data processing algorithm, in which a differential calculator and another a low-pass filtering were added to avoid drift in the original signal and systematically delay caused by physical devices. The method was systematically illustrated in this article and a test-setup was built based on the LabVIEW program development environment. Both simulations and experiments were carried out to demonstrate the merits of the method. Simulated results based on four typical pathological ECG signals confirm the robustness and adaptability of this method. Experimental results verified the benefits of this method with regard to increased accuracy that can pick up the interested signal accurately in a degree of larger than 99%. This improved technology proposed in this research will be greatly beneficial to simultaneous triggering in VADs and eventually to the heart failure recovery.
Bilateral Signal Warping for Left Ventricular Hypertrophy Diagnosis

Abstract:Left Ventricular Hypertrophy (LVH) is a major cardiovascular risk factor, linked to heart failure, arrhythmia, and sudden cardiac death, often resulting from chronic stress like hypertension. Electrocardiography (ECG), while varying in sensitivity, is widely accessible and cost-effective for detecting LVH-related morphological changes. This work introduces a bilateral signal warping (BSW) approach to improve ECG-based LVH diagnosis. Our method creates a library of heartbeat prototypes from patients with consistent ECG patterns. After preprocessing to eliminate baseline wander and detect R peaks, we apply BSW to cluster heartbeats, generating prototypes for both normal and LVH classes. We compare each new record to these references to support diagnosis. Experimental results show promising potential for practical application in clinical settings.

Abstract:The paper presents a new wavelet analysis method which is utilized in the detection of fetal electrocardiogram (FECG) from the abdominal signal. At first, in the monitoring of fetal heart rate and fetal ECG, the wavelet analysis approach is used to determine the position of the abdominal maternal electrocardiogram (MECG), and whether the MECG is in saturated distortion. The amplification of original signal and the enhancement of FECG is not limited. Second, in the coherence average of FECG, the wavelet analysis is utilized to enhance FECG so that the coherent average can get a more accurate reference. Third, in the elimination of baseline drift, the best scale of wavelet base function can be obtained to smooth the baseline drift. Tests on clinical data have shown that the proposed method can be effective in detecting the FECG signal in many cases when compared with other methods in practice

Abstract:The high-probability ictus of cardiovascular diseases as well as the rapid proliferation of personal wearable devices points to the emergence of machine aided automatic identification and diagnosis with electrocardiograph (ECG). Most of existing algorithms of the identification of normal/abnormal ECG waveforms are computationally complicated and time-consuming, which cannot couple with the constant augmented amount of acquired data. In contrast, dynamic time warping (DTW) is beneficial in terms of ECG identification having a high accurate rate for recognizing normal ECG waveforms but with a relatively low computational complexity. However, detecting certain abnormal ECG waveforms becomes an intractable problem by means of DTW. In this paper, a pair of improved DTW schemes are proposed, followed by a differential threshold aided algorithm designed for identifying long-term ECG signals. Moreover, real-data verification shows that our improved DTW schemes outperform the original DTW method in terms of the accurate rate of identifying abnormal ECG waveforms as well as the time consumption.
Multi-window Detection for P-wave in Electrocardiograms Based on Bilateral Accumulative Area.

Abstract:BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE:P-wave detection is one of the most challenging aspects in electrocardiograms (ECGs) due to its low amplitude, low frequency, and variable waveforms. This work introduces a novel multi-window detection method for P-wave delineation based on the bilateral accumulative area.METHOD:The bilateral accumulative area is calculated by summing the areas covered by the P-wave curve with left and right sliding windows. The onset and offset of a positive P-wave correspond to the local maxima of the area detector. The position drift and difference in area variation of local extreme points with different windows are used to systematically combine multi-window and 12-lead synchronous detection methods, which are used to screen the optimization boundary points from all extreme points of different window widths and adaptively match the P-wave location.RESULTS:The proposed method was validated with ECG signals from various databases, including the Standard CSE Database, T-Wave Alternans Challenge Database, PTB Diagnostic ECG Database, and the St. Petersburg Institute of Cardiological Technics 12-Lead Arrhythmia Database. The average sensitivity Se was 99.44% with a positive predictivity P+ of 99.37% for P-wave detection. Standard deviations of 3.7 and 4.3ms were achieved for the onset and offset of P-waves, respectively, which is in agreement with the accepted tolerances required by the CSE committee.CONCLUSION:Compared with well-known delineation methods, this method can achieve high sensitivity and positive predictability using a simple calculation process. The experiment results suggest that the bilateral accumulative area could be an effective detection tool for ECG signal analysis.

Abstract:The paper presented a newrobust algorithmfor the location of R wave peeks in ECG。Wavelettransform method was used for preprocessing as bandpass filter。The combination of the first differentialof ECGsignal withits Hilbert transformation makes Rpeeks stand out and weakens P waves and T waves。In addition,the problems of baseline drift and motion artifact are mini mized.Therefore ,it is easy to locateR peeks by the method of experiential ti me interval forecast and the application of amplitude threshold。The performance of the algorithm was tested by MIT-BI H Arrhythmia database , An average detectionrate of 99 .91 % was achieved。The algorithmis reliable and the realization of the algorithmis easy。

Abstract:Electrocardiogram (ECG) signal identification technology is rapidly replacing traditional fingerprint, face, iris and other recognition technologies, avoiding the vulnerability of traditional recognition technologies. This paper proposes an ECG signal identification method based on the wavelet transform algorithm and the probabilistic neural network by whale optimization algorithm (WOA-PNN). Firstly, Q, R and S waves are detected by wavelet transform, and the P and T waves are detected by local windowed wavelet transform. The characteristic values are constructed by the detected time points, and the ECG data dimension is smaller than that of the non-reference detection. Secondly, combined with the probabilistic neural network, the mean impact value algorithm is used to screen the characteristic values, the characteristic values with low influence are eliminated, and the input and complexity of the model are simplified. Finally, a WOA-PNN combined classification method is proposed to intelligently optimize the hyper parameters in the probabilistic neural network algorithm to improve the model accuracy. According to the simulation verification on three databases, ECG-ID, MIT-BIH Normal Sinus Rhythm and MIT-BIH Arrhythmia, the identification accuracy of a single ECG cycle is 96.97%, and the identification accuracy of three ECG cycles is 99.43%.
