Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical features and prognosis of small-cell lung cancer(SCLC) complicated with hyponatremia. Methods The clinical data of 180 patients with SCLC at Ruijin hospital from Jan 2001 to Dec 2011 were analyzed retrospectively. The clinical stage, level of blood sodium, clinical symptoms, progress of disease and therapeutic effect in patients with normal serum sodium(A group) and hyponatremia(B group) were compared. Results Incidence of hyponatremia in SCLC was 12.2%. The overall median survival time was 8.89 months, One and two year survival rate in A group were 77.8%(123/158) and 22.8%(36/158), respectively, and that in B group patients were 22.7%(5/22) and 4.5%(1/22), respectively. Level of blood sodium was significantly different between the two groups [(142.11 ±2.12) mmol/L vs(111.22±2.67) mmol/L]. Patients with hyponatremia had pleural effusion and metastasis more frequently than patients with normal serum sodium(54.5% vs 9.5 %, 31.8% vs 8.9 %, P0.05). Conclusions Incidence of hyponatremia in SCLC was about 10%. SCLC patients complicated with hyponatremia might indicate a bad prognosis.
