Abstract:CT is an imaging device for radio-therapy diagnosis used more and more, and treatment planning system is taking CT simulation to substitute conventional simulator and it is taken as a verifying means before treatment. In this paper is introduced CT simulation technology, then the features of CT simulation and conventional simulation are compared. Unlike ordinary simulators, CT simulation brings benefits of simplification and filmless procedure. So, the former can replace the latter. Also, CT simulation and the implementation procedures, key technology and location method are discussed in this paper. Finally, what is emphasized is the critical technology of CT simulation: DRR. An engineering implementation approach based on ray-traced algorithm for DRR, is put forward which can construct image with good quality. In conclusion, the authors also points out some issues which are necessary to resolve, such as resolution and reconstruction efficiency, etc.

Abstract:Radiotherapy is a very important tumor treatment. And cobalt-60 radiotherapy machine (also known as gamma knife) is a common external beam radiotherapy equipment and is designed mainly for conventional radiotherapy. We develop a software system, which is named Radiotherapy Treatment Planning System, to make gamma knife more precise in radiotherapy. Section II introduces the principle of gamma knife the system works with. Section III expounds the main components of system. It is composed of image pre-processing, dose computation, dose distribution display, three-dimensional reconstruction, and other modules. Section III.B introduces TMR-OAR model the system uses to compute dose distribution. And Section III.D introduces the way of human body data and dose data visualization. Finally, Section III.E shows the evaluation consequence of a treatment plan. The system works well, and achieves the expected results.

Abstract:A software system based on C/S structure is developed for monitoringγ radiation around Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant. The key technology of the system is described and the man functions of the software, including data inputting, data storing, data processing and data displaying, are introduced in this article. It is demonstrated that such software system could derive real-time data from monitoring stations accurately and steadily. The software system can improve the management level and management efficiency of the Environmental Radiation Monitoring department.

Abstract:Objective To improve the levels of hospital management in radiological diagnosis and radiotherapy area.Methods The application of project management thinking and SWOT analysis were applied before the start of the project.Setting management goals,developing a precise project plan,strengthening the construction of the system and communication platform,and making full use of Comprehensive appraisal of clinical department,all the measures were helpful to enhance the compliance of employees together with good service.Results The rate of radiation workers management and radiation workplace and equipment management index reached almost 100％ from a low level.Conclusion Using project management thinking to construct the radiological diagnosis and radiotherapy management system was crucial to promote management level.
A Leaf Sequencing Software for Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy

Abstract:This paper presents a leaf sequencing software called SLS (static leaf sequencing) for intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT). SLS seeks to produce improved clinical IMRT treatment plans by (1) shortening their treatment times and (2) minimizing their machine delivery errors. Our SLS software is implemented using the C programming language on Linux workstations and is designed as a separate module to complement the current commercial treatment planning systems. The input to SLS is discrete radiation intensity maps computed by current planning systems, and its output is (modified) optimized control sequences for the radiotherapy machines. Our SLS approach is very different from the commonly used planning methods in medical literature in that it is based on graph algorithms and computational geometry techniques. Comparisons of SLS with the CORVUS commercial planning system indicated that for the same set of discrete radiation intensity maps, treatment times can be shortened by over 30% by our SLS plans while maintaining the same treatment quality. We have used SLS in clinical applications at two cancer treatment centers. This paper discusses the various aspects of the implementation, installation, commissioning, and testing of our SLS software system

Abstract:Radiation therapy has been developed more than 100 years.Recently,with the rapid development of scientific technology,equipment for radiation therapy has been significantly improved from the application of original X-ray equipment for radiotherapy,60Co teletherapy unit to a current application of a system including main therapy equipment such as linear accelerator,brachytherapy machine and including auxiliary apparatus such as simulator,treatment planning system,image-guided apparatus and various body position fixing devices and so on.A staff including doctor,therapist,physicist,engineer and nurse was constructed with work dividing deepen.In recent years,researchers have tried their best to manage various departments collaboratively and efficiently,to ensure quality control and quality assurance,to avoid radiation accident,and to improve therapeutic effect in radiation therapy.In this paper,establishment of an integrated management system or workflow by introducing MOSAIQ(⑧) system and combining with actual situation in hospital was described,and experience for optimization of workflow in radiation therapy management with MOSAIQ⑧ system was summarized.It was shown that MOSAIQ(⑧) system could be a potentially tool to optimize workflow in radiation therapy management,strengthen personnel or information management,enhance quality control and save patients’ treatment time.

Abstract:In terms of medical techniques, Taiwan has gained international recognition in recent years. However, the medical information system industry in Taiwan is still at a developing stage compared with the software industries in other nations. In addition, systematic development processes are indispensable elements of software development. They can help developers increase their productivity and efficiency and also avoid unnecessary risks arising during the development process. Thus, this paper presents an application of Light-Weight Capability Maturity Model Integration (LW-CMMI) to Chang Gung Medical Research Project (CMRP) in the Nuclear medicine field. This application was intended to integrate user requirements, system design and testing of software development processes into three layers (Domain, Concept and Instance) model. Then, expressing in structural System Modeling Language (SysML) diagrams and converts part of the manual effort necessary for project management maintenance into computational effort, for example: (semi-) automatic delivery of traceability management. In this application, it supports establishing artifacts of "requirement specification document", "project execution plan document", "system design document" and "system test document", and can deliver a prototype of lightweight project management tool on the Nuclear Medicine software project. The results of this application can be a reference for other medical institutions in developing medical information systems and support of project management to achieve the aim of patient safety.

Abstract:A prototype of accurate/advanced radiotherapy treatment planning and quality assurance system (ARTS) is developed and key technical issues related to the improvement of the treatment accuracy is studied. After a brief introduction to the prototype of ARTS, the advanced development in key technical issues is presented including image data processing and human body modeling, fast and accurate hybrid dose calculation, multi-objective optimization of inverse planning, intelligent patient positioning, and dose verification.

Abstract:Radiation dose in the importance of radiation therapy is well known, with the advancement and development of technology, Radiation therapy in cancer treatment plays an important role. The current radiation treatment planning system using empirical or semi experienced conventional dose algorithm, the calculated dose distribution is not precise enough. Based on OUR-Body Gamma Knife radiation treatment planning software system, this article proposes dose calculation optimization method to meet the computing requirements of the premise and reduce dose points which need to calculate as much as possible, to improve the calculation speed. According to the experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of the optimization algorithm, and finally complete visualization of dose distribution.
Development of stereotactic seed implantation treatment planning system and its key technologies

Abstract:Objective To design an original treatment planning system(TPS) suitable for stereotactic radioactive seed implantation treatment.Methods The linear source arrangement principle was adopted,and seed implantation planning module was designed according to stereotactic surgery operation.A fast dose calculation method based on graphics processing unit(GPU) was employed to achieve real-time calculation and update of dose distribution.Automated registration and fusion of pre-operative magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) and post-operative CT images was investigated to achieve the quantitative post-operative dose verification,and a new dose comparison method based on volume overlap ratio was presented.Results A well-designed,full-featured stereotactic seed implantation TPS was implemented,and the clinical trials showed that the system fully met the clinic needs.Conclusion It is demonstrated that the proposed system could effectively aid in pre-operative planning and post-operative dose verification,and has high clinical virtue and wide application prospect.

Abstract:Medical X-ray examination has become the main source of public radiation, public acceptance of medical X-ray examination of the frequency at home and abroad are showing rapid growth, in which the CT examination of the organization has reached or exceeded the level of increased tissue cancer. This paper describes the development of medical CT irradiation dose information management system based on the LabVIEW graphical programming environment, including the framework structure of the whole system, the specific implementation process of the main module. At the same time, the mean value of the examination of the site was obtained by the application, and the cumulative dose of the patients were examined. The data can be used to supervise the X-ray examination of the X-ray examination, also can help the management of the radiation department to carry out the reasonable use of the dose.

Abstract:To meet the special demands in China and the particular needs for the radiotherapy department, a MOSAIQ Integration Platform CHN (MIP) based on the workflow of radiation therapy (RT) has been developed, as a supplement system to the Elekta MOSAIQ.The MIP adopts C/S (client-server) structure mode, and its database is based on the Treatment Planning System (TPS) and MOSAIQ SQL Server 2008, running on the hospital local network. Five network servers, as a core hardware, supply data storage and network service based on the cloud services. The core software, using C# programming language, is developed based on Microsoft Visual Studio Platform. The MIP server could offer network service, including entry, query, statistics and print information for about 200 workstations at the same time.The MIP was implemented in the past one and a half years, and some practical patient-oriented functions were developed. And now the MIP is almost covering the whole workflow of radiation therapy. There are 15 function modules, such as: Notice, Appointment, Billing, Document Management (application/execution), System Management, and so on. By June of 2016, recorded data in the MIP are as following: 13546 patients, 13533 plan application, 15475 RT records, 14656 RT summaries, 567048 billing records and 506612 workload records, etc.The MIP based on the RT workflow has been successfully developed and clinically implemented with real-time performance, data security, stable operation. And it is demonstrated to be user-friendly and is proven to significantly improve the efficiency of the department. It is a key to facilitate the information sharing and department management. More functions can be added or modified for further enhancement its potentials in research and clinical practice.

Abstract:Dose calculation is critical important for the radiotherapy of cancer treatment. In this paper, an efficient Monte-Carlo radiation dose calculation system is presented. The dose calculation kernel of our system is based on the DPM algorithm [12]. The original codes are replanted into windows environment and rewritten using C++. Optimization techniques are applied to achieve a higher performance. Experimental results show that the optimized codes can achieve about 12% speedup in performance while retaining the same accuracy compared to the original codes. A user-friendly User Interface (UI) is also imported into the system. Through the UI, doctors can flexibly customize the simulation parameters and obtain the simulation results visually.
