Abstract:Human well-being and socio-economic development of the society depend notably on two invaluable resources water and energy. Water scarcity and increasing water demand have made water supply a challenge to the world. Thus, further efforts should be made to develop and improve technologies for wastewater treatment and reuse'which can provide an alternative water supply. Membrane technology is the most efficient technology in wastewater treatment, and thus this paper mainly reviews the recent advances of membrane-based technologies applied to wastewater treatment and reuse. Firstly, the potent pollutants in wastewater and the related traditional treatment methods were discussed. Then, the development, applications and challenges in membrane technology for wastewater treatment were reviewed. Furthermore, the membrane-based integrated technologies and the prospects of these technologies were discussed, including membrane filtration combining with pre-treatments, membrane filtration combining with activated sludge process and membrane filtration combining with the advanced oxidation process.

Abstract:Water shortage and water environmental pollution have promoted the development of wastewater reclamation and reuse in China in recent years. Different treatment processes are employed for this purpose, such as pond-farmland systems using solar radiation as initial energy source, treating wastewater at low cost and low energy consumption to realize wastewater reclamation and reuse for irrigation on farmland to provide both water and nutrients. Some full-scale projects on municipal wastewater reclamation mainly based on activated sludge and/or submerged biofilm processes followed by some advanced treatment processes such as filtration and disinfecting, from which the effluent is reused in agriculture, industry and domestic uses except for drinking purpose have been built and put into operation in some water shortage cities, which are described in this paper. In some water scarce cities the domestic wastewater reclamation and reuse (dual water system) is employed for a building, a group of buildings or a sub-residential district, whose treatment system consists of submerged biofilm process, dual-media filter and disinfection.

Abstract:In this paper,in-depth analysis into the vital demand of China and the international research advances in the field of municipal wastewater reclamation and reuse is provided;the fundamental features of related researches(i.e.,mechanism elucidation at microscopic level,process security,technological integration,extension to ecological system) are revealed;the critical scientific problems to be addressed(i.e.contaminant elimination/transformation,chemical-to-energy conversion,water reuse-associated ecological risks control)are summarized;Lastly,four future directions to promote the sustainable development of urban water system in China are proposed,namely:(1) mechanisms of mass and energy conversion during wastewater reclamation and reuse;(2) principles for ecological storage and multi-scale recycling of reclaimed water;(3)methodologies for water security assessment and ecological risks control in urban water system;(4) theories for developing reclaimed water +-based sustainable urban water system.

Abstract:The design and operation of a project of fresh section wastewater reuse treatment in a big commercial center using a flat MBR are introduced. The operation results show that membrane pollution is effectively controlled by new membrane module. The reactor operates stably and effectively and has simple maintenance management. The effluent quality can achieve the criteria for toilet-flushing in Reuse of Urban Recycling Water-Water Quality Standard for Urban Miscellaneous Water Consumption (GB/T 18920-2002). Through reusing of the effluent for toilet-flushing,this reclamation project can achieve the reduction of wastewater discharge and saving water resource.

Abstract:With the development of industrial economy and urban construction, water pollution and water shortage in China have become very serious problems in recent years. In this paper, a general picture on water pollution and water shortage in China is described. The regulations of technical policy of Water pollution prevention and control of PRC are introduced. The major measures of water saving in industries and cities are presented. The reuse of reclaimed municipal wastewater as a secondary water source is recommended. Some demonstration projects of wastewater reuse for different uses are presented. Research works concerning reuse and recycling system of industrial wastewater are presented as well.

Abstract:China is facing severe water problems including scarcity and pollution which are now becoming key factors restricting developments. Creating an alternative water resource and reducing effluent discharges, water reuse has been recognized as an integral part of water and wastewater management scheme in China. The government has launched nationwide efforts to optimize the benefits of utilizing reclaimed water. This article reviewed the water reuse activities in China, including: (1) application history and current status; (2) potentials of reclaimed water reuse; (3) laws, policies and regulations governing reclaimed water reuse; (4) risks associated with reclaimed water reuse; (5) issues in reclaimed water reuse. Reclaimed water in Beijing and Tianjin were given as examples. Suggestions for improving the efficiencies of reusing urban wastewater were advanced. Being the largest user of reclaimed wastewater in the world, China's experience can benefit the development of water reuse in other regions.

Abstract:Water resources are one of the key natural resources in the world in 21st century. While developing economy, sustainable and rational utilization of water resources must be considered. The problems of the shortage of water resources become more and more serious along with the rapid economic development in China. Currently more than 400 cities and towns are in shortage of water in China, the annual shortage of water is as high as 6.0×10~9 m~3, and it is estimated that it will be up to 5.0×10~(10) in 2030. However, the annual volume of discharged urban wastewater is about 4.14×10~(10) m~3, the proportion of treated urban wastewater is only 30%, most of which is discharged without using, and the proportion of reused treated urban wastewater is only 10%. Treated urban wastewater is a great potential water source in urban water supply, therefore, it has currently becomes as a hot domain in urban water supply how to develop the new practical ways of treating and reusing urban wastewater so as to achieve the scientific transition and rational utilization of urban wastewater resources, guarantee the safe urban water supply, alleviate the contradiction between water consumption and water supply, and achieve gradually the coordinative development of economy, society, resources and environment. In this paper, the actuality of reusing urban wastewater is reviewed, the ways of reusing urban wastewater are analyzed, and some measures for reusing urban wastewater are put forward. The measures are as follows: (1) To increase the public's awareness of saving water and reusing treated urban wastewater and let the public understand that the urban wastewater is a kind of reliable and reusable water resources, and to reuse treated urban wastewater is an effective measure to alleviate the shortage of water resources and achieve sustainable utilization of water resources; (2) To enhance the construction of infrastructure of urban wastewater treatment by reforming the mechanism of urban wastewater treatment and raising funds from multiple ways; (3) To increase water price and treated wastewater consumption; (4) To increase the consumers with high water consumption to reuse treated urban wastewater.

Abstract:Recycling water from municipal wastewater offers a reliable and sustainable solution to cities and regions facing short-age of water supply. Places including California and Singapore have developed advanced water reuse programs as an integral part of their water management strategy. Membrane technology, particularly reverse osmosis, has been playing a key role in producing high quality recycled water. This feature paper highlights the current status and future perspectives of advanced membrane processes to meet potable water reuse. Recent advances in membrane materials and process configurations are presented and opportunities and challenges are identified in the context of water reuse.

Abstract:This article introduces the current situation of residential grey water treatment and reuse in China ,and also discusses the advantages and disadvantages of grey water treatment .And then it determines COD ,NH3 -N ,TN , TP and turbidity by collecting the college dormitory district and constructs the artificial wetland and ultrafiltration to treat the grey water .The results show that the concentrations of COD ,NH3 -N ,TN ,TP and turbidity are low , belong to high quality reuse water source ;the ultrafiltration appliance has a high removal efficiency of turbidity with 2 .0 NTU of the average turbidity of treated water and 97 .1% of the removal efficiency ,and can partly remove COD , TN ,TP;the constructed wetland can effectively remove the pollutants in the grey water ,and the average removal efficiency of COD is 88 .6% .Therefore ,it is feasible to use these two processes to treat residential grey water after technical comparison .

Abstract:With the characteristics of steady and reliable quantity and quality of the treated effluent from municipal wastewater treatment plant,its reclamation and reuse can decrease the pollutant discharge and alleviate the lack of water resources.The status of wastewater reclamation and reuse in China is overviewed.The Chinese standards for municipal wastewater reclamation and reuse are introduced from five aspects of farm irrigation,urban miscellaneous use,industrial use,environmental use and groundwater recharge.The treatment technologies of reclaimed water are analyzed,and the measures and suggestions for the implementation of wastewater reclamation and reuse are put forward,with a view to providing reference for wastewater reclamation and reuse in China.

Abstract:Wastewater reuse may serve as an important solution to the emerging issue of water scarcity. However, the potential public and ecological risks of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) may hinder the wide application of treated wastewater reclamation. Wastewater treatment plants have been recognized as hotspots of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) and key nodes of their spreading. Owing to their characterization of bioactive and penetrating ability from the treatment processes, it is important to design the tertiary treatment to enhance removal efficiencies of intracellular- and extracellular ARGs. Herein, we critically reviewed the available technologies classified into physicochemical, eco-biological, and integrated processes for reclaimed water generation and ARG removal from recently published articles. We summarized the performance, mechanisms, and bottlenecks of each process. For future prospects, we proposed a framework for multimode reuse to achieve the goal of sustainable social water cycle with low risk posed by AMR.

Abstract:The paper introduced the comprehensive wastewater treatment technology and the reclaimed water utilization in an urban eco-agricultural system,Xiedao.The test results indicated that the removal of COD(Cr),BOD5,turbidity and TN were all over 90%.The reclaimed water quality was very stable and met the state requirements of irrigation and scenic water.Using reclaimed water for farm irrigation and aquatic farming,the holiday village system can reduce groundwater exploitation by 50% annually.What's more,a beautiful landscape was made and could also absorb more tourists.The mode of wastewater recycling utilization centered by sewage treatment in Xiedao has achieved benefits,which is favorable to reusing wastewater in practice engineering.

Abstract:Recent years,eco-campus has been brought on the agenda.Wastewater reuse project,as an important part of eco-campus construction,is economically and technically feasible.It has been applied to many institutions,with comparatively great economic,environmental and social benefit obtained.A university in Tianjin adopted a technics with the core process of novel submerged complex membrane bioreactor.The advantages of this process are as follows: small occupied room,stable effluent quality,relatively low energy consumption,relatively small investment and operation cost etc.This technics can be regarded as a great idea and method for effective,economical and stable operation of wastewater reuse system in eco-campus.

Abstract:With population growth and social and economic development, water shortage is becoming a serious issue worldwide. As a key alternative water resource, wastewater can be used in agriculture to compensate for water shortages. Wastewater irrigation has a long development history and has undergone different phases in developing and developed countries.
