Abstract:In this paper, a multi path effect model is built up from its physical significance. Then the influence of the multi path effect on the detection performance of a system under some specific conditions are analysed, and further the relationship between the multi detection distribution of the multi path effect factor μ and the detection performance of the M/N detection approach is derived while a missile borne milimeter wave PD radar is used to detect a hovering helicopter.

Abstract:Rotation of rotor blades is typically micro-motion and would induce micro-Doppler modulation. However, accurate detection will become extremely difficult when the echo signal is corrupted by strong noise. This paper proposes a method to realize extraction of micro-Doppler feature from the rotating rotor blade echo signals with low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). The proposed method is characterized by applying low-rank decomposition for saliency detection of spectrogram. MATLAB simulation results verify that the proposed method is effective in saliency detection of the spectrogram from rotor blade echo signals and is robust in estimating the maximum micro-Doppler shift under low SNR.

Abstract:With the development of science and technology, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is more and more widely used to bring a lot of convenience to the society, but also led to serious threats to public security, personal privacy, military security and other aspects. Therefore, it is increasingly important to find unknown drones quickly and accurately. In UAV detection, the technologies based on acoustic, radio and radar detection are common, but these technologies usually require expensive equipment and strict configuration. However, the method based on machine vision has the advantages of low cost and simple configuration. In addition, detection and recognition methods based on deep learning have been fully developed, but most of them are for a single visible image, and the detection and recognition effect is limited. In this paper, a fast detection and identification method based is proposed based on the backbone of YOLOv3 (You Only Look Once version3). And dual-channel detectors were used as data sources. In this method, infrared and visible images are simultaneously input into the network for feature extraction, and the extracted depth features are concatenated. Then the multi-scale prediction network is used to regression the target location to obtain the final detection and recognition results. Finally, by collecting real UAV data sets, the network is trained and tested for comparative experiments. Experimental results show that the mAP of method in this paper is worthy of improvement, and the detection speed remains at 27images/s.

Abstract:When aerial cameras get aerial remote sensing images, the defocus will occur because of reasons such as air pressure, temperature and ground elevation changes, resulting in different image sharpness of continual aerial remote sensing images. Nowadays, the rapidly developing feature matching algorithm will rapidly reduce the registration rate between images with different image sharpness. Therefore, in order to enable aerial cameras to get image sharpness parameters according to the locations of aerial image feature points with inconsistent sharpness, this paper proposes a feature matching algorithm between aerial images with different sharpness by using DEM data and multiple constraints. In this paper, the feature matching range is extended according to the modified aerial imaging model and the nonlinear soft margin support vector machine. Then the relative moving speed and its variation of the feature points in the image are obtained by using the extended L-k optical flow, and finally the epipolar geometric constraint is introduced. To locate the feature points is obtained under multiple constraints, there is no need to calculate the feature point descriptors, and some mismatched point pairs are corrected, which improves the matching efficiency and precision. The experimental results show the feature matching precision of this algorithm is more than 90%, and the running time and matching precision can meet various application needs of aerial cameras.

Abstract:Sonar images have the characteristics of lower resolution and blurrier edges compared to optical images, which make the feature-matching method in underwater target tracking less robust. To solve this problem, we propose a particle filter (PF)-based underwater target-tracking method utilizing Zernike moment feature matching. Zernike moments are used to construct the feature -description vector for feature matching and contribute to the update of particle weights. In addition, the particle state transition method is optimized by using a first-order autoregressive model. In this paper, we compare Hu moments and Zernike moments, and we also compare whether to optimize the particle state transition on the tracking results or not based on the effects of each option. The experimental results based on the AUV (autonomous underwater vehicle) prove that the robustness and accuracy of this innovative method is better than the other combined methods mentioned in this paper.

Abstract:A dynamic shadow detection algorithm for aerial images captured by micro unmanned helicopter is presented.To meet the two requirements of the application platform which are high robustness for various environment and high adaptation to moving background,two independent features are extracted based on the analysis of shadow feature set.A modified Co-EM strategy is applied to shadow detection for separate frames.The experimental results show that this algorithm can not only be applied on real micro unmanned helicopter platform,but also provide better detecting results than the regular method which uses color and region features.

Abstract:The capability of a radar system to detect and identify the low-slow-small rotor unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is intensely important for management and control in low altitude, and it can be enhanced by the characteristics of UAV, which inherently carries micro-Doppler information. In this paper, we establish a micro-motion model of rotor UAV, and analyze the range walking and Doppler broadening caused by micro-motion. Hence, based on the characteristics of micro-Doppler of the rotors apart from the main body for the moving UAV, a micro-motion target detection and micro-Doppler parameters estimation method is proposed. Firstly, a method based on datashift in range dimension is used to compensate the translational component of the main body. Secondly, for the echo after translation compensation, a parameter estimation method of micro-Doppler based on the optimal demodulation operator is proposed. The operator contents the maximum likelihood criterion, which strengthens the difference between the micro-Doppler signal and the background clutters, so that more signal energy can be accumulated while the clutter is suppressed. Subsequently, the micro-Doppler parameters of the micro-motion component are obtained by the optimal demodulator, so that the detection and identification of the target are realized. Additionally, the performance of proposed method, including parameter estimation, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) improvement and the calculation efficiency is analyzed. Finally, the simulation and experimental results reveal that the proposed method does possess the capability to improve the performance of detection and recognition of rotor UAV.

Abstract:Aiming at the problem that the sensors in the mini unmanned helicopter(MUH) are most prone to faults caused by bad conditions and strong noise,a method of fault diagnosis combining strong tracking filter(STF) with wavelet threshold denoising is proposed.Based on the theory of STF,the method can estimate the states and parameters by constructing the fault observer in which the parameters of the system are expanded to state variables.Meanwhile,the estimate precision is improved as wavelet threshold denoising method is used to denoise the measurement information of the filter in real time.The method can realize real-time diagnosis once faults occur.The effectiveness of the proposed method is proved by the simulation when MUH is in the state of hovering.

Abstract:The rotation of rotor blades of a helicopter induces a Doppler modulation around the main Doppler shift. Such a non-stationary modulation, commonly called micro-Doppler signature, can be used to perform classification of the target. In this paper a model-based automatic helicopter classification algorithm is presented. A sparse signal model for radar return from a helicopter is developed and by means of the theory of sparse signal recovery, the characteristic parameters of the target are extracted and used for the classification. This approach does not require any learning process of a training set or adaptive processing of the received signal. Moreover, it is robust with respect to the initial position of the blades and the angle that the LOS forms with the perpendicular to the plane on which the blades lie. The proposed approach is tested on simulated and real data.

Abstract:The rotation of blades of a helicopter induces a Doppler modulation around the main Doppler shift, which is commonly called the micro-Doppler signature and can be used for target classification. In this paper, an automatic helicopter classification method is proposed by estimating the period of the micro-Doppler signature and identifying the number of blades via time-frequency masks. The advantages of this method are threefold: (1) it determines the number of blades automatically; (2) it significantly reduces the computational burden compared to the classical model dictionary-based classification methods; (3) it is robust with respect to the inclination of the helicopter. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is validated by using both synthetic and real data.

Abstract:Aiming at situation that small unmanned helicopter(SUH)changes its attitude during landing stage,and non-differential GPS lacks of precision,a monocular vision-based SUH height measurement method is researched to enhance the quality of autonomous landing.Under the condition of obtaining the body attitude angles previously,recognizes and extracts the parallel feature straight lines according to on-board camera projection model,real-time calculate height during landing.The feasibility of this method is testified on the measuring system,and experimental results indicate that the method performs a relative high feature recognizing rate and real-time and accuracy of output result can entirely meet requirements of landing when tilt angle exists between airframe plane and landing plane.

Abstract:Helicopter detection is an important part of the safety and security during flight. Most of the aerodynamic noise of modern helicopters comes from the main rotor, the main rotor aerodynamic noise thus can be used for helicopter detection. However, the Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) of the measurement noise has always been quite small while the helicopter is flying over long distance away from the microphone. The current passive detection methods are not robust enough in the presence of substantial interference. A robust passive sound detection method is proposed to detect the far-field helicopter based on the cyclostationarity of the main rotor noise. The Sparsity-Enhanced Spectral Coherence (SESC) is derived from the spectral coherence decomposition to improve the detection robustness at far distances and low SNR. Furthermore, a global detector is constructed to detect helicopters adaptively by fusing the detection of multiple orders of BPF, which can be performed on the calculated SESC. More accurate and robust detection of the far-field helicopter can be obtained by the proposed SESC detector. The effectiveness of the proposed detection approach is demonstrated and contrasted by using simulation and far-field flight test measurements of the ROBINSON R22 helicopter.

Abstract:Aiming at the defect that the low cost Mini Unmanned Helicopter(MUH)sensors easily fail due to poor stability,a method of fault diagnosis based on phase difference and wavelet packet analysis is proposed.A model of fault diagnosis based on phase difference according to the signal characteristic of MUH sensors is introduced.The estimated phase difference is used to detect faults by correlation analysis.The wavelet threshold denoising method is adopted to process the sampled signals to improve the estimate accuracy of phase difference,and the wavelet packet analysis is applied to isolating the faults.A simulation based on the experimental data is conducted,and the result shows that the method is feasible and effective for MUH sensors fault diagnosis,and the proposed method has been successfully applied in the MUH flight experiments.

Abstract:In the field of helicopter acoustic detection, a primary concern is the identification of rotor noise emissions. One challenge is that, over long transmission distances, rotor noise is often masked by ambient noise, making its detection nearly impossible. To achieve long-range helicopter noise detection, it is crucial to restore the frequency characteristics of the received rotor noise signal. This study proposes the use of an adaptive filter to precisely isolate and process this signal. Through this method, we aim to establish an effective long-range helicopter noise detection system. The results presented in this paper demonstrate the adaptive filter's ability to accurately recover the frequency features unique to helicopter rotor noise, confirming the feasibility of a potent long-range helicopter acoustic detection system.

Abstract:Micro-Doppler signals returned from the main rotor of a helicopter can be used for feature extraction and helicopter classification. An intrinsic feature of a helicopter that may be extracted from the micro-Doppler signatures is the L/N quotient, where N denotes the number of rotor blades and L is the blade length. However, in monostatic radar, the L/N quotient cannot be accurately estimated due to the unknown attitude angles of non-cooperative helicopters. To solve this problem, an attitude-independent L/N quotient estimation method based on multi-aspect micro-Doppler signatures is proposed in this study. The helicopter is observed from different aspect angles, and the multi-aspect micro-Doppler signatures are jointly processed to solve the attitude angles of the helicopter and estimate the L/N quotient unambiguously. Experiments with both simulated and real data demonstrate that, the proposed method is robust with respect to the attitude of the helicopter and, therefore, significantly improves the accuracy of L/N quotient estimation compared with only using the signature observed from single-aspect angle. This implies that the proposed method has the potential to increase the success rate of helicopter classification.

Abstract:In this paper, the precision hovering problem of UAV operation is studied. Aiming at the diversity and complexity of the UAV operating environment, a high-precision visual positioning and orientation method based on image feature matching was proposed. The image feature matching based on the improved AKAZE algorithm is realized, and the optimal matching point pair screening method based on the fusion of Hamming distance and matching line angle is innovatively proposed, which greatly improves the robustness of the algorithm without affecting the performance of the algorithm. The real-time image is matched with the benchmark image for image feature matching. By reducing the deviation of image feature, the pose state correction of UAV hovering is achieved, and the precision hovering of the UAV is realized. Both simulation and real UAV tests verify the effectiveness of the proposed UAV high-precision visual positioning and orientation method.

Abstract:This paper presents a new method to identify the model of a small-scale helicopter in frequency domain using harmony search HS algorithm. The dynamics of the small-scale helicopter are simplified to four single-input/single-output SISO linear subsystems near the hover point, and the HS optimisation algorithm is used to identify each subsystem's parameters. Time-domain verification is made to check the validity of the identified models. The verification results show that the identified models are accurate and effective enough to describe the dynamics of the helicopter. The identified models show that the dynamics of the roll, pitch and yaw channels are mainly dominated by the lightly damped second-order modes. Identification and verification results show that the application of HS algorithm in system identification is suitable and useful.

Abstract:In this paper, the problem of the efficient coherent integrative detection of high velocity target with low SNR is investigated. Firstly, the characteristic of Chirp radar's return is analyzed. And then it is pointed out that the main factor that influences the performance of the coherent integration is the envelope's migration between range cells. Finally, a new detection algorithm, which is based on envelope interpolation, replacement and compensation, is proposed to resolve this problem. Monte Carlo test shows that, on the condition of -8dB SNR, using this algorithm, the high velocity moving targets can be detected, with the false alarming probability under 10-6 and the detection probability above 95%.
