Abstract:Objectives To explore the characteristics of brain activity during verbal fluency task ( VF) by using blood oxygenation level dependent-functional magnetic resonance imaging (BOLD-fMRI). Methods Eighteen healthy volunteers were recruited in the study, and fulfilled brain fMRI when they performed a 6-block VF task. The data of activation and rest images were reconstructed with an offline workstation and the activation map was obtained. Results During the VF task, such brain areas as bilateral superior frontal gyrus, bilateral middle frontal gyrus, right inferior frontal gyrus and right anterior cingulate were significantly activated. Conclusions It indicates that retrieval of long-term memory may be related to the bilateral dorsolateral frontal cortex ( DLFC) and right ventrolateral frontal cortex ( VLFC) , with the DLFC monitoring and checking the products of memory, and the VLFC involving memory procedure for searching special targets.
