Abstract:A DSP-based real-time seam tracking system for PAW stainless welded pipes is presented here in the paper with details concerning such main aspects as the working principle,and the design tips of both software and hardware of the control system,etc.The laser sensor is used in this system to measure the position of the seam,and the Fuzzy-P double-mode control technique is adopted to rectify deviation of the seam.The DSP is used as the central controller to produce control signal which drives the motor for vertical movement of the welding torch,and makes the welded pipe rotating so as to realize the real-time automatic seam tracking with the welding torch,and the adaptive speed control according to the weld seam dimensions.The results of the experiments demonstrate that the said system is capable of bring about the real-time automatic seam tracking of the welding pipe by the welding torch,having completely met the requirement for the welding operation.

Abstract:This paper deals with a seam tracking system of welding of Tailored Weld Blanks based on active laser-triangulation. The system consists of DSP based vision camera and stripe-type laser diode. The total system is assembled into a compact module which can be attached ahead of welding torch and it has high dynamic performance in guiding the robot arm welder accurately over the seam. its structure, basic principle of this system and the main function are introduced . The images taken by the camera are analyzed using image processing algorithms: setting the range of interest, the median filtering and bi-level thresholding. Furthermore, the middle line of the laser stripe is extracted. Finally, a search method is carried out to examine the mid-point. A prototype sensor system has been developed and experimental results show its effectiveness and good performance.

Abstract:A precise and compact structural laser visual sensor system for arc welding robot to track seam is designed and manufactured with consideration of practicability and possible lower cost compared with dominating imported devices in domestic market. The involved image processing programs are also developed. Further, the chief methods of calibration and related parameters for the sensor system are presented, which would lead to figuring out the conversion between the image coordinate and that of the arc welding robot. In the procession of the structural laser stripe image the Gravity Center method is introduced, which provides a result of single-pixel stripe center and the coordinates of the needed feature points. Consequently, it is possible for the arc welding robot to track the seams.

Abstract:The design and manufacture method for optical system of laser-stripe sensor for seam tracking is researched,and this sensor is developed.When the optial system is in production,the wave-length should be measured at first,and then the filter is made.The experiment result shows that the sensor can filter the noise well and obtain seam images with high signal-noise ratio,which laid the foundation to enhance the real-time of seam tracking.

Abstract:In order to meet the requirement of seam finder and seam tracking under special conditions,using laser scanning technique,seam tracking system based on circular laser sensor is developed,cooperated with welding robot,built "hand-eye" system,and three-dimensional information for weld workpiece could be extracted,escaped from shortcomings of less information, ambiguous explanation and single tracking direction for "spot" or "line" laser trajectory.Study on calibration of vision sensor for seam position and seam tracking is carried out.Finally,real experiment for butt joints,lap joints and corner joints was carried out and the calculation precision was analyzed.The results showed,the pattern of the circular laser is different for different seam,combining with calibration results,the three-dimensional coordinates of welded joints could be determined and the precision could meet the requirement of seam tracking test.

Abstract:In this paper a novel seam tracking system based on circular laser sensor was developed. With this system the whole procedure from image acquisition and processing, the 3D information of welding seam calculation, robot control to welding seam allocation and tracking was realized. And the shortcomings of some traditional optical sensors with 'spot' or 'strip' laser trajectory are avoided, such as lack of information, explain ambiguity and single dimension tracking. The software of this system was developed with Visual C++ and the robot language RAPID, to process 3D information of welding seam and to communicate with robot in real-time. The difference between welded-point and detected-point was discussed. The communication principle and method based on C/S mode between robot and PC was explained. The technique of welding tracking in minute segment was put forward to solve the problem of data-writing for detected point in real-time. The simulation and test results showed that the system can realize the real-time localization and tracking of welding seam and the tracing accuracy is satisfied.

Abstract:For the realization of intelligent underwater welding,a set of automatic seam tracking algorithm was developed.2 degrees of freedom PID control algorithm was adopted to control the horizontal slider accurate tracking weld real time.Crawling car tracked the weld in a wide range by fuzzy control method which designed base on slider position and velocity signals.Welding experiments showed that the system had good stability and reliability.Tracking precision was high to arrive at ±0.3 mm.It would have good application foreground for underwater automatic welding in the future.

Abstract:A novel circular laser three-dimensional (3D) scanner is developed instead of a one-dimensional laser spot scanner (1D) and two-dimensional (2D) striped laser light. Using the proposed circular laser scanner, a seam tracking system is constructed, and architecture based on the Visual C++ and RAPID languages which determines the cooperation among image processing modules is carried out. Finally, real seam tracking experiments are investigated and the error analysis is carried out. The results show that: (1) the proposed system can realize seam tracking; (2) the precision of this system is affected by the light scanning system, calibration results, image processing, and the welding seam 3D algorithm—the tracking accuracy is satisfied for robotic arc welding; (3) this system can be used in a welding robot system as a weld seam finder, flatness detector, and weld seam tracker.

Abstract:Abstract : This article describes a weld seam tracking sensor which has a type of pulse modulated infrared beam as its signal light source. Going through signal reception filters and 'adaptive elimination of noise' processing, it is possible to effectively overcome interference from electric arc light. Making use of the light source pulse driven characteristics, the instantaneous signal power is greatly added to, improving the adaptation of optical sensors to the surfaces of pieces of work. The sensors' structure is simple. Their volume is small. Their sensitivity is high. And, they are capable of realizing, at the same time, automatic tracking of weld seams in the two horizontal and altitude directions. It is capable of precision tracking in both submerged arc and open arc automatic welding.

Abstract:A novel visual robotic arc welding system based on circular laser vision sensor is developed. After image de-noising, image segmentation, and image thinning, the relation of depth value of workpiece and off-axis angle gamma, three-dimensional (3D) calculation, and seam tracking experiments are carried out. Finally, the error for seam tracking system is analyzed. The results show that 1) 3D information can be obtained using the proposed visual robotic arc welding system and the real-time seam tracking is realized; 2) the seam tracking error is small enough for gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) process, and this system can be used for seam location and seam tracking or seam finder.

Abstract:One novel arc robotic visual sensing system was constructed using proposed circular laser vision sensor, which could be used for welded seam location and seam tracking. Image segmentation, feature extract and 3D modeling were studied and shape and location of the welded joint to be welded could be obtained real time. Taking butt joint and ramp joint for an example, experiments of seam location and seam tracking were carried out. The results show that visual robotic arc seam tracking system based on circular laser sensor can obtain the information of shape and location of workpiece. Seam location and seam tracking can be realized real-time.

Abstract:Weld seam tracking system is urgently needed in weld automation process, but it has not been well studied in underwater weld applications. This paper used visual sensor to automatically monitor the weld seam in underwater wet weld process, and image processing algorithms were developed to remove the influence of water environment on the captured image and automatically obtain the weld torch deviation, and the weld torch was adjusted automatically according to the deviation obtained by the image, experiment results showed that the system could meet the requirements of underwater wet welding process.

Abstract:Multi-layer and multi-pass welding is widely used in some fields such as shipbuilding and boiler manufacturing. However, single line structured laser is insufficient to obtain the position and pose of the finished welding seams and predict next welding seam after based layer welding had been completed. In this paper, a new vision sensing method which uses grid structured laser for weld seam sensing is presented. It detects the previous weld beads to predict the following welding path position of the next layer. Based on image capturing and image processing algorithm, a high-quality image with distorted grid is obtained. Since extracting feature points from distorted grid structured laser is much more difficult than that from single line structured laser, a robust algorithm is proposed. Through calibrating and calculating of coordinate conversion, the position data of seams is determined in the world Cartesian coordinate system. The detecting and scanning experiments are ultimately performed, which prove that the seam sensing method is feasible and effective.
A Seam Tracking Algorithm Utilizing Spatio-Temporal Information of Laser Vision in Thin Plate Butt Welding for Shipbuilding

Abstract:Thin plates constitute more than 80% of the structural components in shipbuilding, and butt welding is an essential technological process in ship manufacturing. Different from general butt welding, thin plate welding for shipbuilding is characterized by long length (≥ 15 m), narrow seam width (≤ 1 mm), and high precision demands (≤ 0.5 mm). The clamping deformation, arc sparks, and noise pollution during the welding seriously affect the tracking precision in automated welding. To address this problem, this paper presents a seam tracking algorithm combining image processing techniques and spatiotemporal tracking data filtering techniques to acquire a steady and smooth torch trajectory with less position variation. In the image processing stage, a spatiotemporal density mask image processing method is proposed to preserve effective pixels in spatiotemporal laser images to resist noises and improve the accuracy of welding point position estimation. Experimental results show that the frequency of the proposed seam tracking method can reach 30 Hz, the average absolute tracking error is less than 0.25 mm, and the maximum tracking error is less than 0.4 mm. The welding torch runs more smoothly during welding thus leading to higher welding quality.

Abstract:The laser welding head is integrated with the CCD video tracking module, and a method for automatic seam detection based on a word line laser is proposed. This method uses laser triangulation to obtain the height, width, and other shape information of the weld. In the aspect of image processing, we perform median filtering and binarization on the obtained weld arca image to obtain the two-dimensional coordinates of the weld feature points, achieve target position and calculate its three-dimensional coordinates in the world coordinate system. In the tracking algorithm, we use high accuracy and high speed kernel correlation filters target tracking algorithm to track the positions of common straight and curved welds. The verification experimental results show that the fitting curve and weld shape error arc within 500, the degree of coincidence is high, and the real-time tracking effect is good.d

Abstract:A laser vision based automatic seam tracking system for both ID and OD spiral pipe production process is designed.The sensor uses laser as a structural light and CCD as vision source.The acquired image of laser stripe is transferred into PC for image processing and pattern reorganization.The correction data calculated is used to drive the ID and OD motorized slide through PLC so that the torches of both ID and OD can be kept right on the seam during the welding process.The tracking accuracy is better than 0.5mm.The application results in many spiral pipe mills of China show that using this laser based seam tracking system can improve the weld quality,reduce the waste rate as well as the labor intensity of operators.

Abstract:This paper describes a new seam tracking system with a scanning infrared sensor developed by the authors. By mechanically scanning the point infrared sensor across the groove to obtain the information of the whole groove area, and then using a single chip computer to process and to recognize the information, it is capable to realize the automatic tracking in both horizontal and vertical directions. The groove pattern, the position of the welding line and the condition of the seam tracking can be displayed in real-time on an oscilloscope. The system has features of anti-interference of arc light, automatic adapting of various surface conditions of workpieces, automatic recognizing of tack weld and local abnormal states of grooves, compact sensor and convenient operation. High accuracy and reliability with low cost are achieved in this system, which has been successfully applied for industrial production. This system is going to be produced as commodity products.

Abstract:In order to identify the discontinuous welding seam created by drainage holes in lattice-type cabin in shipbuilding,a vision sensor is set up in the robot to extract the startpoint and the endpoint of drainage holes.The way of image acquisition and image processing procedure are introduced.The image of welding seam is denoised.Threshold segmentation are done and connected region and their area are striked.The image is refined and the frame of laser line is extracted.Characteristic line is extracted using Hough transform.The intersection of two lines is striked,which is the characteristic point of welding seam.So that drainage holes and welding seam are identified.Discontinuous welding seam tracking experiment on workpiece that similar to cabin are carried out,and the experiment is successful.

Abstract:The structure and the principle of seam tracking for submerged arc welding were introduced in this paper. The method of seam recognition with computer vision was mainly researched when the environmental light was changed. Intelligent control system for seam tracking has been realized by using a self-modulated fuzzy control set. The system was tested on the producing of spiral submerged arc welded pipe for outside-welding and the primary results were obtained.
