A Study of the Inhibitory Effect of Manta Birostris Extract on the Growth of Liver Cancer

Abstract:Objective To study the effect of the extract from sea fish Manta Birostris on the growth of liver cancer.Methods The sea fish Manta sirostris was extracted using 10 mmol/L PB solution(containing 2 mol/L NaCl and 3 mmol/L EDTA),then fractionally precipitated with 40%~80% alcohol.Further purification of the extract was achieved by Sephacryl S-300 gel filtration.With the method of MTT,the effect of Manta birostris extract on the growth of human liver QGY7721 cancer cells was assayed.The mice HAC liver cancer model was used to determine the inhibitory effect of this extract on the cancer growth.Results It was shown that the Manta birostris extract inhibited the growth of QGY7721 cells significantly but with no effect on HLF cells.The extract inhibited potentially the growth of HAC liver cancer,and the inhibition rate was 55.50% in the dose of 1.00 g/kg.Conclusions The Manta birostris extract can inhibit the growth of liver cancer effectively.
