Abstract:A group of five delegates from Fudan Physics Teaching Lab visited seven uni-versities in the UK, Germany and France from 30 September through 12 October in 2012 to con-duct an in-depth investigation of the teaching of experimental physics in Europe. We acquired a comprehensive understanding through visiting laboratories, attending lectures, and discussing with course organizers, professors, demonstrators and students. Strong, close-knit teams, systemat-ic and flexible curricula, a rich variety of experimental classrooms, and the teachers' passion and commitment, all left us a deep impression. A note about what we saw and heard and our thoughts is reported here for the benefit of the organizers and teachers of physics lab courses, as well as the undergraduates.

Abstract:During my six years of teaching Physics today to non-physics major students at Peking University,I have gradually come to understand the essence of instruction.That is,physics must be viewed from a high and long-reaching vantage.Students must be shown clearly the basic outline,fundamental points,and vigor of physics.By discussing some important events in the history of physics,we should let students understand how scientists deal with problems in their research,and from the statements and actions of scientists understand how to do research.By this means,we can make the students realize what is of the most importance in science,and train them to think creatively.Comments and criticisms from colleagues are warmly welcomed.

Abstract:Students' epistemologies of experimental physics refer to how they understand the role of experimentation as well as the experimental operation and design and communication of results in physics. This research aimed to find whether students in inquiry-based physics laboratory activities show more expert-like epistemologies of experimental physics and better course performance relative to courses using cookbook guided laboratory activities. The participants consisted of two classes of students in a Chinese university. They were divided into control group and experimental group. The experimental group was taught with inquiry-based teaching, while the control group was using cookbook teaching. Each group was taught by the same lecturer. Colorado Learning Attitudes about Science Survey for Experimental Physics were used to investigate students’ epistemologies about the nature of experimental physics. It was found that students in a traditional cookbook guided laboratory showed significant negative shifts on personal epistemologies, and in contrast, students’ epistemologies of experimental physics in inquiry-based laboratory had been significantly improved. The increase of scores in the control group was higher than the experiment group on experimental physics learning performance. The results were slightly different from other studies, some possible explanations were given. Keywords: epistemologies of experimental physics, inquiry-based teaching, physics education

Abstract:In 2013,Zhejiang University has launched the graduate English course that would be fully taught by foreign teacher.Taking this opportunity,the Department of Polymer Science and Engineering has invited Prof.M.Grunze from Heidelberg University,Germany,to teach "Interface Science of Polymer".The aim of English course program is to improve student professional knowledge and communication skill in English,as well as to train young teacher.The program has been carried out for 3 years,and the teaching content,arrangement of class,student feeling,and learning experience are summarized.Furthermore,based on Chinese student characteristics,we have suggested several ideas and opinions for teaching and class management.

Abstract:The educational practice on the combination of multi-experiments in polymer physics is described in this paper.In the teaching of experiments of polymer physics,the separate experiments were combined and connected each other.A hypothetical problem was presented and needed to be solved by the combination of several experiments.The students were required to share the experimental results by team-work.The evaluation of teaching effects indicated that,compared to the traditional teaching method,the combinatorial teaching were paid more enthusiasms by the students.The combination of multi-experiments was advantageous to understand well not only the isolated knowledge point,but also the relevance of different knowledge points.The students' scores in this course were graded comprehensively based on course preparation,personal experiment report,team-work report and semester examination.This new teaching method was successfully carried out and approved by most students.

Abstract:Cultivating the ability to innovate is one crucial component in undergraduate experimental physics education. The authors recognize that "innovation" is not equivalent to discovering new phenomena in the lab; rather, we emphasize on the ability to discover new phenomena, and to approach them with an open and critical mind. In this paper, we introduce our practice in research-based teaching in physics laboratory courses, including the courses on different levels, the different pedagogic methods taken, and the achievements of the students. Abstract:Middle school physics experiment is a significant basic course with extensive content and strong practicability. This course has high requirements for students to master and understand the background and basic principles of various physical experiments, as well as the working principles and the use of various experimental devices. Based on the importance of physics experiment teaching and the limitations of the traditional experiment teaching mode, this paper first reviews the traditional mode in the context of the Internet and puts forward the new physics experiment teaching mode within "Internet Plus" in the new era, including theoretical guidance of constructing the experimental teaching mode, the innovation of teaching methods and examination methods, and the prospect of promoting the development of education industry. At the same time, this paper puts forward the network teaching platform system that can implement the new physics experiment teaching, including exercises, flipped classroom, and Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC), and discusses them separately, hoping to provide research reference for middle school physics teaching and research in the future.
