Midline destructive lesions of the sinonasal tract: CT evaluation

Abstract:Objective:To probe the computed tomographic findings of the midline destructive lesions of the sinonasal tract.Methods:We reviewed the CT studies and clinical,pathologic data of 16patients with midline destructive diseases of the sinonasal tract.Results:No differences could be found in the CT findings of these diseases.Their CT features included:①unilateral or bilateral distribution of the lesions.②the ethmoid and maxillary antrums were involved more frequently.③in-vasion of the nasal alae and fat pad in front of the maxillary antrum occurred occasionally.④nasopharyngeal involvements pre-sented as a choanal mass or infiltration of the nasopharyngeal walls.⑤intracranial and orbital involvements occurred occasionally and at times pterygopalatine fossa,infratemporal fossa,pterygomaxillary space were aggressed.⑥without or just a little bone erosion,while sometimes erosion as well as proliferation can be found.Con clusion:The midline destructive lesions frequently have the same clinical and imaging features,differential diagnosis of nasal lymphoma and Wegener's granulomatosis should be considered.The final decision depends on pathological examination.
