Abstract:This paper addresses the electromagnetic relationship and the electromagnetic model, which includes voltage equations, flux linkage equations, and electro-magnetic torque expressions, of the two-pole permanent magnetic spherical motor. The model shows that the electro-magnetic coupling relationship inside the two-pole PM spherical motor is simple and that the torque of the motor is easy to control. The paper also analyzes the magnetic field of the motor by 3D FEM method. The result confirms the sine distribution of the field and the modeling method.

Abstract:The paper presents the control method of a type of permanent magnet spherical stepper motor being capable of three-degree-of-freedom motion. The structural characteristics and the motion of the spherical stepper are analyzed, and then a weighted graph which consists of all possible stable positions of the spherical stepper is given according to the arrangement and combination of permanent magnets and windings. The commuting strategy can be attained and therefore the spherical motor can be controlled to achieve the expected trajectory according to the algorithm of the weighted graph.

Abstract:A new type of multi-DOF(degrees of freedom) spherical induction motor with no output shaft was designed aiming at shortages of current multi-DOF motion systems. This type of motor uses a 2-layer shell-like metal rotor coated on the outermost layer and four independent spherical curved motors based on linear induction motor which are mutually orthogonal. The motor can generate output torque in any direction directly on the outer surface to realize multi-DOF rotary motion around any axis. This paper firstly introduces the structure of this kind of motor, and the output torque distribution of each stator when moving. Then, the motor's size parameters were designed based on the design theory of linear induction motor. Finally, 2D and 3D finite element analysis (FEA) were carried out using ANSYS, and the operating characteristics under different rotor parameters and power supply conditions were obtained, which provides a theoretical basis for the selection of rotor parameters and the implementation of stator's motion control. The results show that this spherical motor can reach up to 5.18Nm torque at 300 rpm with only one working stator, thus meeting the requirements of multi-DOF motion.

Abstract:A novel type of 2DOF (two degree of freedom) spherical ultrasonic motor with three traveling-wave type stators was developed.Its structure and driving principle are introduced,especially a spiral form of the spring was presented.The key issue of the self-regulation between the stators and the spherical rotor was solved,and the errors caused by processing and installation were overcomed by making use of the special-made spring.Ensured that the preload between the stators and the spherical rotor was more uniform and smooth.The mathematics model of the motor was established based on the Friction Drive Model,and the analytical expression of mechanical characteristics calculation was deduced.The features of the mechanical characteristics were acquired by make the minimum Euclidean norm as a target.The developed motor has φ40 mm rotor,the maximum output torque reaches 0.12N·m,the maximun speed is 90r/min,and the performance is consistent in all directions.This type spherical motor has many advantages of compact structure,convenient installation,prominent performance.It has significant application in many field,such as robotics manipulator's joint,CCD working stage.

Abstract:This article proposes a conceptual model of a new type permanent magnet 3-degree-of-freedom motor. Its structure consists of an internal rotation module and a peripheral deflection module. It can be driven independently to achieve high-speed rotation and precise tilting of the motor. The 3-degree-of-freedom movement of the motor in space is achieved by the synchronous operation of the rotation and the deflection. In order to explore the loss problem caused by the temperature rise problem in the actual operation of the motor, the eddy current loss and core loss inside the permanent magnet of the motor are analyzed by theoretical formula and finite element method, respectively. Based on the static magnetic field, the gas flux density of two types of rotor permanent magnets in different coordinate systems is analyzed. The motor’s rotation and deflection torque characteristics are calculated using the principle of virtual displacement method. Using the auxiliary technology of the virtual prototype, according to the actual situation of the motor, the corresponding motion hinges and driving forms are summarized, and the control strategies of rotation, deflection, and rotation and deflection simultaneously are planned. The trajectory of the motor is described by observing the selected points. For the motor from product design to prototype testing and to the final processing assembly, a solid theoretical foundation is laid for the proposed work.

Abstract:In order to promote the tolerance and controllability of the multi-degree-of-freedom (M-DOF) ultrasonic motor, a novel two-degree-of-freedom (2-DOF) spherical ultrasonic motor using three traveling-wave type annular stators was put forward. Firstly, the structure and working principle of this motor were introduced, especially a spiral spring as the preload applied component was designed for adaptive adjustment. Then, the friction drive model of 2-DOF spherical motor was built up from spatial geometric relation between three annular stators and the spherical rotor which was used to analyze the mechanical characteristics of the motor. The optimal control strategy for minimum norm solution of three stators’ angular velocity was proposed, using Moore-Penrose generalized inverse matrix. Finally, a 2-DOF prototype was fabricated and tested, which ran stably and controllably. The maximum no-load velocity and stall torque are 92 r/min and 90 mN·m, respectively. The 2-DOF spherical ultrasonic motor has compact structure, easy assembly, good performance and stable operation.

Abstract:Aimed at the design specificity of the PM bearingless motor,the influence of rotor structure,pole-arc coefficients,airgap length and the permanent magnet thickness to torque and suspension property were analyzed,which is quantified by the variation of stator inductance.The impact to levitation force was analyzed under the above-mentioned parameters by electro-magnetic field analysis.The control system of the PM bearingless motor was obtained by applying the levitation force model.It shows well torque and suspension performance function well by the simulation results,which testifies the validity of the model.

Abstract:Two degree-of-freedom spherical traveling wave type ultrasonic motor is a multi degree-of-freedom ultrasonic motor。Its structure is complex and difficult to be realized,but it has its merit.The driving principle and basic structure of this kind of spherical ultrasonic motor are firstly introduced,then some basic problems of motor are to be presented.Then structure of motor and optimal structure of stator and tuning devices are to be explained.Then this paper presents centering adjustment device and stator with big rake angle on outer edge and small rake angle on inner edge and tuning method of adjusting rake angle on outer edge of stator.The diameter of prototype motor is 45mm in rotor and 30mm in stator and maximum output torque is 119mNm,maximum speed is 12r/min.From the above discussion and practical experiments availability of devices is to be verified.Results are used for designing theory and performance improvement of two degree-of-freedom spherical traveling type ultrasonic motor

Abstract:A linear-rotary permanent magnet motor (LRPMM) is investigated, which can produce rotary, linear, and helical motion of the mover. It consists of a primary with stator core having circumferential and axial slots and two orthogonal rotary and linear windings, and a secondary with alternatingly arranged permanent magnets and mover core. First, 3-D finite element models of LRPMM are established to investigate and optimize the detent force during linear motion. Second, the electromagnetic performances under different degrees of freedom are calculated and analyzed. Finally, the force performance of LRPMM under helical motion is mainly focused since the linear magnetic field and rotary magnetic field exist in same iron core. After the impact of the shared magnetic circuit is analyzed, it is shown that the iron core has saturation problem, and then the force performance is lowered. The results can provide reference for further optimization of magnetic circuit design.

Abstract:This paper addresses the bearingless motor with a single set of multiphase windings. The interaction between M and M ±1 pole-pair magnetic fields produces radial force. Based on this principle, a bearingless machine is obtained. Conventional bearingless machine has dual windings, levitation windings and torque windings, which produce the two magnetic fields. In the proposed bearingless motor, the two needed magnetic fields are produced by feeding two groups of currents to a single set of multiphase windings. Taking a 5-phase induction motor as example, the inductance matrices, considering air gap eccentricity, are calculated with the modified winding function method. The radial force analytical model is deduced by virtual displacement, and its results are validated by FEA. The mathematical model of the new bearingless machine is set up, and the simulation results verified the feasibility of this novel bearingless motor.

Abstract:Multi-degree-of-freedom piezoelectric motors have the advantages of high torque and resolution, simple structure, and direct drive, which are widely used in robot wrist joints, deep-sea mechanisms, medical equipment, and space mechanisms. To solve the problems of high force/torque coupling degree and ball low stator and rotor bonding strength of the traditional traveling wave type three-degree-of-freedom piezoelectric spherical motor, a new structure of ball-hinged piezoelectric spherical motor is proposed. Through coordinate transformation and force analysis, the driven mathematical model of the spherical motor is given. The model shows that the three degrees of freedom of the motor are coupled with each other. According to the mathematical model of the spherical motor, the mechanical properties of the motor are analyzed by the computer simulation. The results show that the stalling torque coefficient kt has a linear relationship with the friction coefficient ε and the stator preload Fc, has a nonlinear relationship with the stator radius R and the rotor radius r, and increases with the increase of R and decreases with the increase of r. The no-load speed of motor ωn is not related to the friction coefficient ε and the stator preload Fc, and increases with the increase of R and decreases with the increase of r. The anisotropic characteristics of torque and speed of a spherical motor are further analyzed, which lays a theoretical foundation for the drive control of a spherical motor.

Abstract:Due to the increasing requirement of high speed motor, bearingless motor has become more and more fascinated to scientists and technicians. Conventionally, two sets of windings are involved for torque and suspension force respectively. Whereas, in this paper, using the concept of multiple control freedom in multiphase motor, an innovative 5-phase bearingless machine with a single set of windings is developed. The principle of the proposed motor is indicated, in which two groups of currents are fed into a single set of winding to generate two interacting magnetic fields, whose pole pair difference is 1. Further more, the analytical model is given. The hardware system and the control strategy applied in the system are demonstrated. In the end, it is certified that the motor could successfully suspended with a radial displacement variation less than 100um.

Abstract:In this paper, the characteristics of the helical motion of the rotatory-linear 2-degree-of-freedom split-stator induction motor (2DoFSSIM) are investigated, which cannot be regarded as the simple superimposition of the 1DoF rotary and linear motions. A set of torque and force equations of the helical motion is deduced. It illustrates that the interacting electromagnetic torque and force are opposite to the directions of rotary and axial movements, respectively. For the rotating movement, the interacting torque is related to the axial velocity. Moreover, the axial velocity significantly influences the output torque performances and no-load speed. Similar conclusions can be obtained for axial movement of the helical motion. The 3-D finite-element method is applied to calculate the exact output performance considering the interacting influence. Furthermore, the prototype machine is manufactured and tested to verify the analytical results.
