Research Progress in Ferroelectric Liquid Crystals and Chiral Dopants Containing Phenylpyrimidine Units

Abstract:The display application of ferroelectric liquid crystals materials has been draw much attention all over the world since the working principle of surface stabilized ferroelectric liquid crystal was described by Clark and Lagerwall. In this paper, the latest progress in novel ferroelectric liquid crystals and chiral dopants containing phenylpyrimidine ring in the backbone were summarized. Special attention was paid to the effect of various chiral centers and end groups on the spontaneous polarization, response time and transition temperatures.
