Distributed Model Method of A Complicated Mechanical Design

Abstract:A complicated mechanical product design usually needs the collaboration of multi-disciplinary designers dispersed geographically. The paper proposes a distributed modeling method for this problem. A design project is decomposed into several multidisciplinary sub-tasks, which are modeled by the experts separately. These models can form an integrated collaborative design system by the Internet. It introduces the definition of the design model, the exchange of the production information among the models, and the Internet-based implementation of this model. The paper gives a example for a distributed model case of a gearbox design project.
