Abstract:A virtual system based on virtual manufacturing technique and NC processing technique for NC milling is developed with Visual C++6.0. The control panel and mill bed of this system is similar to that of the real machine. This system can realize the 3D simulation of machining process and collision-checking during cutting process. It can check most of syntax errors in NC program to reduce the waste of resource and equipment and to raise the using ratio of NC machine.

Abstract:The virtual machining represents a trend in the machining of product parts. In this paper, based on the analysis of the concept and connotation of virtual machining, some of its key techniques are discussed, including geometry modeling, numeric control code translation, interference detection and material removal simulation. A typical architecture of virtual machining system is presented, based on which, a virtual machining system named as General Machining Procedure Simulator (GMPS) is implemented at the national CIMS Engineering Research Center (CIMS-ERC) in Tsinghua University. Now the system has been applied to practical engineering projects and some benefits are gained.

Abstract:Based on the features of NC milling process, the 3D geometric model of virtual machine tool and the fixture are established by the virtual reality technology and OpenGL graphics library with the method of Construction of Solid Geometry(CSG) and Boundary Representation(B-Rep), and some realistic effects treatments(including material, light, texture mapping, etc.) are applied. The established virtual machine tool can be zoomed, rotated and translated in the view area. And a workpiece decomposition expression model based on the Z-MAP structure is put forward, and Boolean subtraction is performed by using this model and a tool solid model to simulate the real time process of cutting and test the simulation result. Simulation example proves that this system runs reliably and improves NC machining efficiency.

Abstract:The recent years of the 21th Century are associated with the advent of virtual reality technologies for modern industry and manufacturing engineering. Virtual Machine Tool Technology is given to design, test, control and machine parts in a virtual reality environment. This paper presents the methods to model and simulate the virtual machine tools in response to change in the machining requirements. Specifically, a set of module combination rules and a modeling method of the structure of machine tools using connectivity graph are developed. By this way virtual machine tool is implemented. The developed virtual machine tool can be efficiently used for industry training and machine leaning and operating.

Abstract:CAD/CAPP/CAM/MPS (machining process simulation) is a key point in virtual manufacturing. Automatic machining under Pro/E has been realized for non rotate parts based on STEP and information integration among CAD, CAM, CAPP and MPS. Moreover, it also provides information for machining process simulation and NC generation. With the help of part modeling from CAD and process planning from CAPP, machining functions in Pro/E are further developed by redesigning the information retrieval for CAM to finish the seamless integration among CAD, CAPP, CAM and MPS. High integrity and flexibility are showed in real applications. Finally, it greatly reduces working load of engineers.

Abstract:Based on the features of NC horizontal milling process, the 3D geometric model of virtual machine tool was established by Microsoft Visual C++6.0, MFC and OpenGL graphics library. Abstract:Tool path generation, post-processing and verification and simulation of NC program are key technologies which are investigated in this research for manufacturing impellers. Generation of tool path aims at producing the cutting tool path. Post-processing transforms the cutter location file (CLSF file) of the tool path to the NC code which NC machine can recognize. Verification and simulation of NC program aims at proving the accuracy of program, thus the interference and collision can be avoided. When tool path is planned, increasing the machining efficiency during the rough and semi-finish milling process is the main consideration. Increasing machining accuracy is an important consideration for final finish milling.

Abstract:Virtual machining (VM) provides a medium to model and simulate machining processes in the computer. VM concept was motivated out of the need to visualize and optimize machining processes prior to real production, and to enhance the education and learning of manufacturing engineers and operators. This chapter will give the reader an overview of research results on virtual CNC machine tool modeling and machining process simulation, with specific application to high speed milling of Inconel and Titanium alloys. The work described is a result of series of research conducted in the CNC and Metrology Laboratory at Missouri ST Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department. The aim of this chapter is to provide useful information on virtual modeling of machine tools and simulation of machining processes to researchers, professors, engineering students, and practicing engineers or production managers working in high speed machining area. Their application will lead to CNC program verification and prediction of cutting forces for a given cutting tool and machining parameters prior to machining on physical machine tools, which will result in significant cost savings and improvement in productivity and quality.

Abstract:The NC machine tool is widely used in today's manufacturing industry. In this paper, a framework of the NC lathing dynamic simulation system is presented and the machining process simulation is developed based on the solid modeling method with ACIS geometric engine and 3D graphic display. The tool swept volume is designed and Boolean difference of the cutter swept volume with the raw stock in the system is calculated. The user or trainee can practice all operations, procedures and skills in complete safety, while maintaining a high degree of realism.

Abstract:A virtual environment for CNC machining simulation with the OpenGL is built in this paper, with which virtual machining can be performed to avoid machining fault and reduce the test cost. Firstly, the virtual model establishment method for machine tool, tool and workpiece is given with STL format. So the 3D model can be created with the general CAD software which is more convenience than with OpenGL. Then machine tool structure is virtual assembly by coordinate transformation method. Finally the machine tool motion is achieved by distributing the tool motion to the motion of axes. With the proposed virtual environment, the CNC machine tools virtual machining can be performed driven by NC code.

Abstract:Virtual machining, based-on the model of a machining system, aims to simulate, evaluate and optimize the actual machining process with high sense of reality. It provides digital off-line optimization tools for NC machining. Taking advantage of virtual machining used in machining process simulation, one can build the framework of optimization system on NC machining so that the processes of reliability verification, cutting parameter optimization and error compensation can be integrated into one system to improve machining processes comprehensively. The optimization is realized via modifying NC programs. Several key issues such as virtual machining, cutting parameters optimization, error prediction and compensation are also highlighted. Optimization systems based on virtual machining have been developed to demonstrate the effectiveness of off-line optimization for different purposes. The results show that the machining process is obviously improved.

Abstract:In this paper, a virtual machining system (VMS) for the ultra-precision diamond turning is presented, and the NC tool path translator function module of the VMS is discussed. The developed VMS is based on the NC program not as some commercial CAD/CAM software which is based on the cutter location DATA file. In the VMS, the virtual machine tool is controlled through the NC program used by the actual machine tool. The NC tool path translator consists of accidence analysis, lexical-analyzer, grammar and semantic parse, driving code generator, etc. The manufacture of a mould insert for a diffractive lens was used as a case study to illustrate the performance of the developed VMS.

Abstract:This electronic With the rapid development of global knowledge economy and science & technology, virtual manufacturing technology based on virtual reality and simulation technology came into being. The Virtual Machine Tool (VMT), as the execution unit of virtual manufacturing, is a key technology and prerequisite for virtual manufacturing. This article uses UG software to complete the construction of the geometric model of the three-axis CNC machine tool, and the NC machining program of the machined parts is generated based on UG CAM. By acquiring the actual machine structure, import the geometric model established in UG into VERICUT to create the kinematic model of the virtual machine tool. Taking a certain type of flange as the simulation processing object, and use the NC program generated in UG CAM to processing simulation in VERICUT. This verifies the correctness of the established model and NC program. Through optimizing the NC machining parameters, the collision or interference between machine tools and parts in actual processing can be avoided.
